Native Hawaiian here. Regardless if Moana is actually Hawaiian in the movie, this mockery of hula is where the gripe comes from. Either be completely correct or just smile and wave. There are several hula halau and kumu hula in Orange County, CA. I'd bet that there are Hawaiian people working for Disney who can recommend specific places and people in Southern California, especially since Aulani's been operating on Oahu for more than a decade. I will say, Disney can improve the dance, they have the resources, so find them people who can do the choreography. As for the man playing Maui, that is probably far more difficult. Not impossible, but unless one happened to try out with the right build and tattoos, or willing to wear a tattoo suit, then they aren't going to find one.

Sadly, a lot of Disney guests that comment about stuff like Maui forget one thing... these are fictional *animated* characters (animated being the key word here), so it's not unreasonable for them to have a cartoonish looking character. I think that the problem is, people are taking things far too seriously every day now, and demanding their "views" be met, instead of being thankful and enjoying what's been given to them. Even if it was choreographed by someone with that background? Do traditional art forms have to strictly be kept pure, or is there room fore cultural exchange and evolution? I'm offended by your logic lol 😂 grately offended at a mini parade for kids not "representative" of all the pulled inspired people's culture due to the $ and the confusion of what its ment to be rather than a fun show again for kids

Or except that it's ment for kids and not complain and make issues were non exist moron shall we cry that princess Jasmin isn't doing erotic belly dances like real middle eastern woman sometimes do hula is nice and all but a line has to be defined

Star Wars will never be Disney. They can keep trying to merge SW into Disneyland, but it will never fit. It's offensive to Walt's memory. Should have built a standalone SW park, not just tack on a new zone to D-land.

Why'd they have to make single rider so complicated? It worked just fine before.
@NuggetHQ Жыл бұрын
I don’t understand space mountain because of one reason. Children. If a there’s a party of 5 with 3 kids they can’t put a single rider next to a child in an inclosed dark space. That’s just not right

if you're gonna choregraph a dance based on another people's culture, you better talk to people of that culture and make sure you don't mess it up. something tells me that was not done in this case with moana
@alexnigh8403 Жыл бұрын
Moana is a cartoon character from a made up land. There’s no one to ask
@bobalinx8762 Жыл бұрын
@@alexnigh8403 It’s based off of a very real culture, so there are people to talk to.

@@alexnigh8403 Walt Disney Studios literally created what they called an “Oceanic Trust” consisting of anthropologists, historians, linguists, and choreographers from various Polynesian Islands to consult while developing the movie

@@Navy6438its not about being offended, just hoping things could've been done a little better. People literally freak out if Star Wars is not portrayed correct . Or how bout black Ariel?

This dude is click bait at its finest…. I talked to a bunch of water and each drop told me they are upset that Disney didn’t use a real snowman for Olaf.

Imagine being a full grown adult and mad that a cartoon or didn’t fully represent the hula dance. 😂 ya know I’m Mexican and I think I’ll sue Taco Bell for misrepresenting tacos. Sounds crazy? At least Taco Bell exist in real life!
