Is Magic Johnson trying to damage the Lakers?
@abdulgaines9450
@abdulgaines9450 5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. Magic seems to be the one taking the brunt of what ails the Lakers. The buck stops with the owner. Magic was not terrible as pres of basketball ops. He cleared away bad contracts. He traded away a bad Mozgov contract and stretched the Dang deal. He drafted Kuzma, who's exceeded expectations. He brought LeBron to LA. If Jim and Mitch were still heading up basketball ops, LeBron would never have come to the Lakers. I'm not saying Magic didn't make some mistakes but he's taking way too much of the blame.

Lakers should fire pelinka, get rid of lebron and cut ties with magic. I love Magic but it seems like they're trying to diminish the value of the team under jeanie buss pointing to her ownership as being the problem. It's obvious magic,Kobe and le excuse all have aspirations to buy the Lakers and dont care about the present so sabotage for theongterm gain of buying the team is there move. Kobe always had a trash entitled spoiled attitude and le excuse has just continued the tired tradition that Kobe morphed the Lakers into of destroying the future of the team when they have little to offer being a year or two away from being an unusable asset. It's like the preacher stealing the steeple and cross so there is no future after they leave. Kobe took advantage of Jerry Buss generosity and they need to cut these toxic has beens or risk losing a team by collusive subversion.

Those two statements are not mutually exclusive. He was focused on the Lakers. But he knew his strengths and interests were not necessarily conducting business in a traditional office setting, but doing work in the field (recruiting players like Lebron, scouting, making strategic appearences, traveling the league etc.)

@@timeslit9732 of course, but he showed his true stripes during crisis. Instead of reiterating his so called "150% commitment" he then claimed he told Jeannie otherwise. It's duplicitous behavior. Not what you expect from a respected leader.
@wjatube
@wjatube 5 жыл бұрын
@@bryansemnani So Magic knows better than 30 other presidents in the league and his plan was to run his team, set the culture and be the presence needed from a leader during a franchise turn-around remotely from his yacht? Sorry, that's incredibly naive and ignorant to the seriousness that the position obviously deserved to which he was not capable. Magic started with the power. Made horrendous decisions with personnel. Then when he stopped coming in and then he was offended he lost the power to fire Luke. That was very foolish of him and shows he was in over his head. And when he got called out, he chose (not once but twice) to through gasoline on the franchise and people he claimed to love. The dude needs psychiatric help.

A. You don't come to work. So gossip starts. B. Problems arise and Magic is still not around. Gossip intensifies. C. I'd say gossip and his loss of power are directly related.
@ShaunByrd
@ShaunByrd 5 жыл бұрын
wjatube He didn’t loose the power. He never had it to begin with. That’s evident from the start when they forced Palinka into position. Magic never wanted him. As team President how can you establish your vision if you can’t hire the people you feel can get the job done; GM, coach etc. Look at the Ty Lue situation. “We want you to be the coach, but we are going to pick your staff.” That is nonsense. Magic should have exited the situation better by talking to Jeanie and not airing all the dirt but they used that man to get LBJ to LA. He was a figurehead from day 1. He just didn’t realize that.
@wjatube
@wjatube 5 жыл бұрын
@@ShaunByrd so "he didn't have the power" while he proceeds to make horrible roster changes and firing over 37% of the inside staff. Pelinka is a dear friend of Jeannie (if you know what I mean). Magic accepted the job knowing Pelinka would be his pseudo gm just like he accepted the job knowing Wallton was his coach. That's not a lack of power those are terms that he agreed when taking the position and he would've been able to fire Luke had he not lost the respect of many in the front office for his bad decisions and not coming into work.

About time we heard from some people that aren't afraid to criticize Earvin. He talked a big game about being able to handle the pressure of that position but in the end he cut and ran to try and protect his image because he couldn't handle the heat. I lost enormous amounts of respect for Magic and continue to do so with every excuse he makes.

Exactly. He likes to shuck and Jive with everyone with his big smile. Pop in and out of his businesses and live the life. Who of us wouldn't want to do that. But that's not reality. In his business he's more of a investor of his money. But has others do the real day to day WORK! He thought that he could do the same thing with the Lakers. That's why he quit as a head coach and the late night talk show host. Both of those require a FULL TIME commitment. Magic is rich beyond rich. And as he gets older, just doesn't want to grind anymore. And if I was in his situation, I would probably be the same way. But don't accept a position if you're not willing to do serious work, that many others are counting on you. He didn't like it, so he bounced. And his statement afterwards his announcement was very self serving and selfish, if we remember that conversation with Rachel Nichols, at Staples Center that night. Very disappointing, but that's why I've learned not to idolize these people, no matter how great they were and how much we were entertained by them.

Just because you wear expensive suits. Doesn't mean you are an astute business person. Magic doesn't have the acumen or dedication to orchestrate a highly complicated and very involved position. You need only to hear him talk to come to that reasoning. I like magic in the context of what he was really great at. ..being a NBA player.

You know what this comes down to? Magic wanted to put some people in place in the front office, and get the ball spinning. Then he could step away here and there and do his thing outside of basketball and trust that his front office was running the organization the way he wanted it. The problem was Jeanie wanted Pelinka because he had ties to All-Stars, and Pelinka is a snake. His motivation the whole time was to make Magic look like a fool, and then to take his role for himself. Unfortunately for Magic, he was to busy with his other ventures to realize what was happening before it was to late. A classic tale that's been played out millions of times over the years. It's literally like the Game of thrones or something 🤣😥🤣😆🤣

Marcellus Whiley during this entire saga has tried HARD to stay on Magic's good side. It's like he wants Magic to notice him and be friends with him or something. Say it like it is Whiley. We wouldn't be talking about all of this if it wasn't for Magic calling his people out and going on ESPN to constantly talk about it. I respect at least some people are deservingly putting the blame on Magic for blowing up what's going on behind the Laker's FO. Does anyone really think that after Magic had good intentions in exposing what's going on in the backend? Magic is just really trying to save his own name and his own failure in his inability to bring back the franchise and nothing else. Guaranteed if Lakers made the playoffs and were a championship contending team, Magic would be taking all the credit for it. And none of this would be exposed. But since Lakers aren't, Magic is trying to divert blame and save face.
