My table had a minmaxer who made the game about the least fun it could be for everyone except him. The only thing that could probably beat his AC was a natural 20. He was the worst player I have ever had to play with in my entire life. He’s worse as a DM because he makes all the enemies like that. Every enemy was a fully crafted DMPC that he delighted in making so overpowered that we could only run. He’d ask questions like “does a 34 hit?” Because enemies would be so high level they would usually be about level 15 and would suspiciously roll a lot of 18s and 19s. There were enemies with attacks that did 20d12 damage with no negatives, just a homebrew innate ability to do this to a group of level 6 players. Needless to say, he’s not at the table anymore. To anyone who has to deal with this type of person at the d&d table, get together with the other players and just kick the asshole out

My yuan-ti bard always talks her way outta combat or tries to avoid it. But that doesn't sound like fun, I ran a one shot like that DM did once, I didn't have fun and I know the players didn't. Now I DM and been running games trying to avoid combat cause I like the clicky clack of the plastic rocks and throw hard encounters at them. Mainly cause I want them to be challenged and to not thing combat should be a go-to but still, hard to balance things for myself. to be fair, my multiclass monklock got a great roll and with racial traits aswell as some magic items, my ac is always 21. he also has access to shield, and has a displacer cloak, which is effectively another 10 ac (for a turn). additionally, the unofficial patron i chose, the great cold, gives me at lvl 6 warlock the ability to add my charisma mod to me or an allies ac for a minute. so in total, i can easily have an effective ac of 29, with the option to make it 34 for a turn. my DM regrets his decisions sometimes XD

Choose a Warforge BattleSmith Artificer and 1lvl of fighter. 18AC for full plate +2AC for a shield +1AC as a race trait +2AC for infusions in armor and shield with your artificer infusion. +1AC as a fighter style that you take. It gives you 24 base AC. With Shield spell in your artificer list you'll have 29AC. So, you need a teammate to cast Shield of Faith on you to make it 31AC.On a 4th level it could work and you don't need magic items.

Like the time our Druid/Fighter used Rope Trick upsidedown to escape a poison room. Or using Misty Step while holding onto someone. Essentially he has us roll Arcana because we're "using them wrong" in a sense and we need a 15 to succeed.

I played a Pathfinder campaign once where in one of our sessions, we fought two barghests in random encounter before we even got to our destination, and after fighting for a few rounds, everyone was left unconscious on the ground except for our wizard. The wizard cast invisibility and began running in a circle around the walls of the ruin we were fighting around until the barghests failed their scent tracking roll and went in the wrong direction. The wizard then had to drag our unconscious bodies to safety. That wizard single-handedly saved us from a TPK.

But would all the wizard's remaining spell slots actually be enough to kill the iron golem using only magic missile? At the very end there, the 12th level wizard had used the following spell slots: 2 3rd level slots on fireball 1 3rd level slots on dispel magic Reflect's level is unknown, but probably at least level 3, as it's said to be "A little higher level than counterspell", which is level 3. The wizard is out of 3rd level slots at this point, so let's be generous and say he cast it at level 4. Then he cast Leomond's tiny hut, which is a 3rd level spell, but since he's out of those, let's assume he used a 4th level spell slot. That brings his remaining spell slot totals to: 1st level: 4 2nd level: 3 3rd level: 0 4th level: 1 5th level: 2 6th level:1 He also attempted to cast Time Stop, but since that's a 9th level spell, and 12th level wizards don't have 9th level spell slots, let's assume that went in a puff of smoke and all the remaining spell slots are spent on Magic Missile. Magic missile does 1d4+1 damage per dart, starting with 3 darts at 1st level, adding one dart for every higher level. A fully healed iron golem has an average of 210 hp. Plugging all those number into anydice shows that...... damnit he could indeed kill the iron golem if he spent all his remaining spell slots on magic missile. I looked at that link and based on everything you put in, it wouldn't kill the Golem. I realize we're arguing over something incredibly stupid but you put in so much work (which I appreciate and did myself as well), and you didn't even say the right thing. The average you gave is 182. If he indeed did start from 210 he would not have killed the Golem. The average I got (without a roller, just taking the average of a D4 being 2), was 156, with a low of 104 and a max of 260. So it's possible he killed the Golem, but on average he wouldn't have.

I thought the exact same thing. Back in 3.5 I was in a campaign where we had to stop a resurrected homebrewed bbg, now a worm that walks, where I was a level 22 boom-cleric. I specialized in miracles(which I only used for full rezing the party as my only "dedicated" healing slots) and timestop. Epic levels in Heirophant for extra slots of miracles and timestop. It was awesome, but OP, and we still all failed and died. I immediately thought, how the hell can he do that as a level 12, and all those dice for a single MM?

@@boianko Combine Full Plate with a Shield plus Defense Fighting Style plus plenty of uses of the Shield Spell and Defensive Flourish from the Swords Bard and you can easily beat 30 AC fairly early on without a single magic item. Alternatively, pick up some Bladesinger for a huge boost or if you're lucky with stats just go Barbarian Unarmored Defense. Magic items are helpful but they are unnecessary for someone of my trade.

The DM has already sunk to the depths of being willing to kill off the rest of the players just to get a shot at humbling the wizard, and even that has failed. Not to mention that Magic Missile is an action and even at sixth level(the highest spell slot for a level 12 wizard) it would only do 6d4+6 damage. So the maximum damage he could do in that round would be 30 damage, and that's assuming perfect rolls on each d4. It's not terrible damage by any means but it's likely this Iron Golem has pretty high HP given it seems buffed, so if this were played properly and by some miracle every d4 was a 4, it would only do 30 damage and then Iron Golem would just attack him. And possibly kill him.

First of all, time stop is a 9th level spell, not available to 12th lvl (2:47) wizard. Secondly, it stops time for 1d4 + 1 rounds, not a minute. Thirdly, time stop ends if you hit something with magic missile. The best he could have done with magic missile is 6th level slot for 28(8d4+8). Not enough to kill a golem.

Jokes on you, with magic items our cleric has an AC of 35 once he spends his first combat turn setting up his Animated Shield and casting Otherworldly Form. The only way I can damage him is via fire and lightning save spells- his dex is 5.

Archmagi (15+dex for 20), shield (to 25), Shield Spell (to 30), (RoP:31), battle master maneuver (D8 if in motion in a turn for potential 39 (DMs ruling on it)), Haste (41). Seen the maneuver ruled other ways as well.. so depends on the DM... That said by the time you've broken AC30, most things will miss most of the time, so the maneuver becomes very optional for the build to work.

Magical electrical attacks will slow it for 3 rounds, and magical fire attacks actually repair 1 hit point of damage for each hit die of damage it would have caused. All other spells are ignored. Iron golems are subject to the damage inflicted by a rust monster. Once every 7 rounds, beginning either the first or second round of combat, the iron golem breathes out a cloud of poisonous gas. It does this automatically, with no regard to the effects it might have. The gas cloud fills a 10 foot cube directly in front of it, which dissipates by the following round, assuming there is somewhere for the gas to go. (The poison gas was save or die).

I did some quick math. It's said earlier that the Wizard is 12th level, so if he used up all of his spell slots, he would do *95d4+95 force damage*, with a maximum of 475 damage total. BUT! Given the fact that he was able to cast Time Stop, that must mean he is ACTUALLY at least 17th level. (But lets just assume he's 20th lvl, seeing as he IS BigDickWizard6969...) Not mention that the Wizard already used up a few spell slots casting two Fireballs, one Dispel Magic, one Leomund's Tiny Hut, and one instance of the homebrew spell Reflect, which must be of at least 4th level inferring from the dialogue about it in 'FIREBALL 3: Return of the King'. However, at 20th level, wizards only get three 3rd level spell slots. Meaning either one Fireball, or the Dispel Magic, was cast at 4th level. Taking into account all of the used spell slots, at 20th level the damage output becomes, in a strange and ironic turn of events, still *95d4+95 force damage*, with a maximum of 475 damage total, an average of 285 damage total, and a minimum of 190 damage total. IN CONCLUSION! There was approximately a 6.372e-58% or 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000006372% chance of NOT killing the Iron Golem. Well played, good sir.

You have to make an attack roll and still HIT the target with Jim's magic missle... Its completely possible to miss all of those darts against a high ac target. Not to mention the fact that if any of the rolls are a 1 you just deal 3 force damage to yourself instead

It is possible but it has to be your main focus. You have to be an Eldritch Knight fighter with +3 full plate +3 shield, and the shield spell to a total of 31. Bonus points if you take the defense fighting style and cast haste on yourself. Total 34

I pretty much did this earlier today in skyrim where used a mod spell to freeze time when I was fighting the forge master on legendary difficulty which is basically a flaming iron golem and set up a ton of different projectile spells so that the moment I unfroze time they all hit him at once.

Great video as always! Can't wait to see what the wizard does next! That said, the wizard is blatantly cheating in so many ways that I feel the need to point them out: First off, he cast Time Stop. A 9th level spell. He's only level 12. He has 6th level spells, no higher. Second, he completely misused the Time Stop he wasn't even able to cast. You can get five rounds at most, and it ends instantly if you effect a creature other than yourself. And third... He just used way to many dice for that damage roll... And that's the end of my rant. Like I said, great video. I know these were broken on purpose to fit the video, but I just wanted to point them out anyway.

Individually you're definitely right; but if you assume the second is allowed then the third is totally accurate. If it were possible to attack continiously during a 10 round time stop (which I 100% agree breaks multiple rules) then even if the "lvl 12"(?) wizard cast a 6th level magic missile, two 5th level, two 4th (only two AND no 3rd level cuz fireballs/dispel/reflect (what level was reflect? It should be higher than 3rd but... iirc it was oddly low)), three 2nd and one 1st level magic missiles, he'd have 49 darts; rolling 49 d4s. Idk how this homebrew The Wizard class works; if he had any spellcasting abilities to match the odd 9th level cast; then the number of darts could be significantly higher. Either way; assuming the extremely broken premise is accepted; then the scale of the damage role seems well within the bounds of possibility. I'm on the same page though; even if we're supposed to ignore the broken rules, it's still fun to point them out and stretch my mind around an understanding of what's implied.

So in case anyone was wondering that was about 36D4 coming out to an average of 90 force damage (With a maximum possible of 146). An Iron Golems max hp is 210. To cast that many dice it would have to be over 3 level 9 magic missiles (Of which wizards only get 1 slot by level 17) in addition to the level 9 time stop spell, which SpEcIfIcLy StAtEs if you affect another creature during the casting, the effect ends.
