Mushrooms are the most healthy food and typically very expensive where I live.They will not be a burden to your stomach even if you eat much more than you plan to.
@johnkamsar4 ай бұрын
As a matter of fact, all mushrooms are non-toxic if you can get them in a regular restaurant. Unless you go to some special restaurants (such as private restaurants), you will be offered some low or poisonous mushrooms (don't worry, they are all non-toxic after treatment), which will have a more flavorful taste. Regarding mushroom poisoning in Yunnan, it is mainly due to eating wild collected mushrooms, which are very abundant in Yunnan, and some people will be poisoned by collecting wild mushrooms because of gluttony. There is even a joke that after someone eats mushrooms, he sees a hallucinatory villain who tells him that if he sees himself, he should immediately call an ambulance to wash his stomach. By the way, that "mysterious vegetable" is actually bamboo pith, which is also a mushroom.

I'm glad you didn't miss out on Yunnan's wild mushroom delicacies. Regarding poisoning from eating toxic mushrooms, 99.9% of cases occur due to careless personal foraging and home cooking. While everyone knows wild mushrooms are delicious, not everyone has the proper cooking knowledge. In legitimate restaurants, they strictly follow cooking requirements, making it very safe, and poisoning incidents are very rare. Additionally, they sample and store each dish, so if any issue arises, the medical system can respond quickly and accurately.

I really envy you two, I am Chinese oversea in Canada most of my life and do not have the chance to taste the authentic Chinese food you two tried. Yes there are Chinese restaurants, they serve the kind of Chinese food similar to what you have in your home country. You need to have a party of four or more to order the amount of food you had, so you won’t let so much go wasted. The cost divided by four is actually quite reasonable, much less than we have to pay over here for that much food. Perhaps meet some expats and share the food when you go for more fancy restaurants other than the street food. Enjoy the rest of you tour in China.

Besides Yunnan, Northeast China is another place with cooler temperatures in summer. Among the big cities in Northeast China, Harbin has the coolest summer temperature, There are many small cities in Northeast China that are more suitable for summer escape, such as Heihe, Jiamusi, Yichun, Manzhouli, Arshan and so on.

First off, definitely wonderful vlog here you two are absolutely amazing! Second, I just want to let you know that the yellowish hotpot doesn’t seem to be the actual wild mushroom hotpot that is renown in Yunnan. This particular restaurant looks very likely that it’s more of one that aims to accommodate most tourists ‘ appetite, meaning its dishes won’t be too adventurous and overly local(authentic in a way) for those tourists. The yellowish hotpot contains mostly non-wild mushrooms that are poisonless. For example the black spiky one Luke had is called black “Jizong”and it’s crunchy. The yellow one is meaty and slimy called “XueShanJun”and both of these two are manly grown not wild. In a typical wild mushroom hotpot which you more often see from a less decorated, more local-looking family restaurant ran by local uncles and aunties, you’ll see all kinds of colorful and weird looking mushrooms in the pot. And you need to wait for it to boil for at least 15mins to fully cleanse the poison. Those wild mushrooms also change colors due to oxidation the moment it’s cut through when its inside touches the air. Anyways, hope your trip goes great in China❤❤

Spicy stir-fried mushroom and mushroom soup is the best, you see that a pot of gelatinous soup, with vegetables and fried eggs, especially the fried eggs adsorbed the fresh juice of the soup, oil and not greasy, while retaining the taste of edible mushrooms. 辣子炒菌菇和菌菇汤是最好的,你看那个一盆胶质状的汤,配上蔬菜和煎蛋,特别是煎蛋吸附了汤的鲜汁,油而不腻,同时保留了食用菌的鲜味。 You know, it's like meat but it's not meat, and that's the ultimate ingredient. 就是那种像肉又不是肉的感觉,这才是顶级的食材。When Yellen came to China, she ate the dish "Kung Pao Boletus luridus Schaeff." 耶伦来华的时候,吃的就是那盘“宫爆红见手青“,Imagine how expensive poisonous mushrooms can be made that so good. 想象下名贵的毒蘑菇也可以做那么好吃。

All kinds of wild mushrooms are local specialties in Yunnan, but you should be aware during the cooking process that these fungi are toxic if they are not cooked well, and some fungi may also have magical hallucinogenic effects. But don't worry about this. Local hospitals have rich experience with such patients, because local people will also be hospitalized during the annual mushroom season due to accidental eating.

The fried mushroom that you were having is called '见手青' (Lurid Bolete), my favorite type of mushroom as a Yunnanese! It's a very interesting type of mushroom because when you slice the mushroom, the flesh turns from yellow to blue-black instantly, that's also why it's called '见手青‘ (literally describing this phenomenon). It's not safe to eat when it's uncooked, but safe to eat when it's cooked and it's extremely rare that people get food poisoning from it. A lot of people love eating it in Yunnan and rest assured the restaurant will cook it fully for you!
