Long time magician, quick tip if it can help someone: Instead of pushing both top cards with your fingers after the shuffle, I recommend simply letting the fall a bit forward AS you finish the shufle. This eliminates unnecessary movement. If the cards are still not outjogged enough, you can readjust with your fingres. This is also useful because sometimes your fingers are not sticky enough to push the cards. Also, it's not adressed in the video but it's more convincing if you make both of your middle fingers touch each other when you push the cards in. This blocks the front side of the deck and prevents the spectator from seeing the packets go one on top of the other. Cheers

Thanks for the tip. I have really dry hands and my fingers don't have any tackiness to move the cards.

The zarrow is amazing, but I prefer pickup control methods (be it in an overhand shuffle or slip cuts, etc) continued to a false shuffle. Mostly because I shuffle on off-beats and want less focus on the deck while I’m performing a slight. Regardless, I love the fact that you introduced so many of your viewers to some of the history of card magic, not to mention the video itself.

I'm brand new to this, but the use-case of this shuffle confuses me. Is it to force a predetermined top card? Is it to get visibility on the two cards pushed forward in the cover?

It’s to preserve the entire order of a whole deck, while appearing to shuffle it completely and repeatedly. Imagine all 52 cards arranged in perfect order for a sequence of mysteries, yet appearing to be repeatedly fairly shuffled.

There is another slight variation of this where you don’t slide the top ones up like that, you actually push the cards together as if you are squaring them up. You leave a few MM of each end hanging out and pull all the cards on the right out and all of them on the left out and act like you’re cutting the deck and whichever card was on top just put that sides block on top. It’s easier to master than this version but this version is more consistent
@d_e_a_n5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say this is a variation of the zarrow shuffle. The push through shuffle you describe is an older false shuffle, done quite differently than the zarrow. Personally, I think it requires a bit more skill than the zarrow.

I feel compelled to be the voice of reason and say that you are not doing this well so that you can gain something from my comment. Reading the other comments reminds me of being in an internet karaoke room with everyone telling the singer they should get a recording contract instead of being honest. The first thing you should work on is to eliminate the constant tapping of the two halves of the deck together after you do your slip cut. There should be no tapping at all.

Paul Mitchell it’s not used that often, because it’s a false shuffle that brings attention to the deck, versus a false shuffle done during the “relaxed” parts of a routine. Plus, there are a million and one ways to pull off a false shuffle and as long as you’re comfortable with 5 or so methods you won’t need to worry. The type of person to watch scam school and remember the zarrow shuffle is going to recognize that there’s the possibility you didn’t shuffle the deck regardless of what provers you do use.
@superman256715 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsullivan6734 Oh I'm not worried about being caught😂. I just don't think that the people watching scam school are gonna put the time in to get it to an acceptable standard and therefore shouldn't be shown to them just for the sake of them knowing. And it certainly is used alot, especially in tabled work.
@michaelsullivan67345 жыл бұрын
Paul Mitchell my intro to magic was scam school, I started watching it for entertainment reasons but when there was a scam school special homework ad on one of the videos for the one handed palm, I figured there was enough information in the ad itself to learn to do it. That simple thing lead to me pursuing magic, so I’d have to disagree based on, admittedly anecdotal, evidence.
