I used to play tabletop games against myself all the time. It's actually kind of oddly satisfying. Since it's basically a two-player game in which both players think the same and know the same strategies, you can't really plan ahead. So every move has to be made up on the spot, developing improvisational strategy skills. ...Unless you're cheap and set up one side for failure.

It's not hard to draw mana. If you're not drawing enough mana per game, you didn't put enough in. If you have more than one color, there's multiple (and dirt cheap) ways of getting around that anyways. Besides, I like that way over summoning the most powerful card you can imagine turn one as you can in Yu-Gi-Oh!, which is quite easy to do.
@OmegaChase1002
@OmegaChase1002 9 жыл бұрын
Brandon Lyman 1. No matter what, no matter how balanced your deck is, even with mulligans, there will come many times when you get a shit hand and will be unable to use any mana. 2. If you're summoning all of your powerful monsters as fast as you can, you're not playing Yu-Gi-Oh! right.

1:58 Dude, you think that's pathetic and sad? I was a huge fan of the Pokemon TCG, except I had no one to play with. So not content to simply play against myself I made a "one player adventure game" where in a deck could do a sought of endurance run against "stages" based of locations from the show and games like Viridian Forest with randomly drawn "wild Pokemon" based on what you would might find in those areas. And ended in cities with a boss based one of the Gym Leaders and occasionally Team Rocket. Between Stages, when you got to a city, you could choose whether or not to go to a "Pokemon Center" which would reshuffle your deck, to get back trainer cards and KO'd Pokemon along with lost energy. The down side being your in play area was also reset so you lost all of your developed and powered up Pokemon. Which was a huge disadvantage for the upcoming Boss fight, because all of their Pokemon were fully evolved and full powered, with a preset arsenal of Trainer cards. I even went to so far as to make it feel less like I was fighting myself by actually coming up with how each opponent would behave under what circumstance, actually it was a lot like the Gambits from Final Fantasy XII looking back. That way I wasn't making any of my opponents decisions while doing battle against them. So yeah... compared to me, you're behavior was down right well adjusted and admirable. XD

I regularly play mtg. I also have a bad deck but ive managed to pull off numerous wins with it for months at fnm. I call it healing zombies destruction because i create a horde of zombies then attack and i spam heal so ill never die. Yeah it barely works but its custom and fun! Plus i love the combinations with it. I doubt ill ever create a new playstyle or deck, i might just update it every time a new set is released but then again i dunno

Welcome back Jared, nice to see literally every single one of my recommendations being one of your videos! Richard Garfields new card game KeyForge is amazing for people who like the idea of TCGs but not the deck construction and card chasing aspects those games have, by the way. It's also unique in that it isn't fundamentally about combat, but rather a resource race. It's also cheap!

Games like Hearthstone and Deck Heroes need to sell packs of physical cards. Each card could have a special code you could type in to get the card in-game. Opening virtual packs just isn't the same. Swiping through a list isn't as satisfying as sorting through a pile. AND THE SMELL.

iamanish In theory, Banding is a mechanic in the game that lets you make many creatures attack as one. In practice, it's a massive pile of overcomplicated rules, unintuitive gameplay and crazy loopholes that would make any lawyer blush. And the whole thing wasn't even fun to play with at the end. Most players never understood what the hell it did, so Wizards decided to make the only obvious thing... an *even crazier* version of it called Bands with Others, of course. Then they finally realized how bad the whole thing was, threw the whole thing away and swore never to speak of it again. And absolutely no one complained.

I was into Yugioh and I had a Machina Deck and I stopped when the game became too expensive to win. I then looked for another card game to satisfy my card game cravings. I tried getting into Magic. I couldn't. In the end I ended up playing Cardfight Vanguard. I regret nothing!

Peter Fay I have 3 deck, a Link Joker deck made of my cousin's extra LJ cards, a Dimensional Police made of 2 structure decks, and my main deck, Battle Sisters.

I think the best way to play Magic on a budget without worrying about being barred from competition is simply to learn Limited (Draft and Sealed) and just do that. My local card shop runs drafts for $8, and typically most stores do $12-15 drafts. Basically, if you play at every FNM and release tournament, that's basically like paying $50 a month, which is pretty good for having the same chances at victory as everyone else. At the end of the day you keep your cards and prize packs anyway. There's also phantom drafts on Magic Online which are cheaper but you can't keep the cards used to play afterwards. Probably not the best solution, but there are ways to play Magic without spending a fortune while also not being barred by card availability.

The other day I tried to play YGO with my friend and both of us ended up with a card *each* that just lingered in the Spell & Trap Zone unable to leave, because their effects totally forgot to tell the cards to die despite no longer being linked to certain monsters we removed in odd ways. *Yu-Gi-Oh, ladies and gentlemen!*

Tom0027X Yeah there is some strategy behind that though, like not playing Call of the Haunted if you main two Gorz, yadda yadda.
@DoubleATam
@DoubleATam 10 жыл бұрын
Helltech I disagree that it counts as a legitimate strategy element, despite Konami not fixing it in all 6 erratas of Call of the Haunted, 2 erratas of Different Dimension Gate and 1 errata of Limit Reverse. It's a loophole and the game is worse for it. It happened *twice* by accident in the same Chain, I am sad that I lack the wit to make that up!
@RubyJSnax
@RubyJSnax 10 жыл бұрын
Tom0027X That's the cost of using the card though, you're risking that happening and leaving you with a dead card (in most cases). It's something you have to take into consideration with creating decks and making plays. It's not as if Konami didn't they'd end up floating. D..Did I just defend Konami?....huh.....
@DoubleATam
@DoubleATam 10 жыл бұрын
***** Again, I know what you mean, but I still don't think it's more than a loophole that they just kept because of weird policies in regards to changing card effects. I think it's the same reasoning as with, say, unblockable sequences of attacks or infinite combos in a fighting game. Some developers leave those in even after patches, but it's largely considered bad practice.
