Been using trangia since I was a boy back in 1993 hiking through Victorian mountains in snow. Trick for 5:50 to prevent that sooting on bottom of frypan. Add about 10-20% water to metho by volume and it will not deposit all that blackness as it runs a bit cooler and cleaner

Nothing wrong with an easy to prepare meal. A couple small containers of an herb & spicy pepper mixture will do well. I saw a pic today of a 20 oz plastic water bottle. It will hold 13 scrambled eggs. You can also try your hand at canning a few items. A bowl of chili on a cool evening would hit the spot.

Another wonderful video, thank you 🙌🏻 You’ve inspired me to go cruising - I have a 16ft Wayfarer on Coniston Water, in the English Lake District. I plan to practice on Coniston and then try out some of the other lakes - hopefully the West Coast of Scotland someday when I’m confident and competent enough. I concur with Outtakes2004 - excellent videos! I have a question, though - at 22:00 in this one you blithely say 'I just came ashore'. How do you do that when you are anchored off a bit? Waders? Slack the bow and draw the stern? Does the rudder conflict? Keep up the beautiful work! Inspirational. (literally - I just picked up a Peep Hen and hope to cruise bits of the Chesapeake Bay here on the east coast of the USA)
@SailingKateLouise
@SailingKateLouise 7 ай бұрын
Hi Mate, thanks for watching. The way I moor up to a beach is to come in stern first drop my bow anchor which has an anchor buddy and then throw my stern line to anyone on the beach it (pays not to be first in). Then tighten up the bow anchor and then the stern line. Most of the beaches we go to are sandy and not too shallow. So I can jump off the stern and get wet to just above the knees....not a problem in summer winter can be a little cold. The Stornaway draws 44 cms, as it has a skeg keel but generally I can get pretty close. When back on the boat before sleeping I then pull in the Bow anchor a couple of metres. Many of the other dinghies are flat bottomed so they can beach up. Luckily in our part of the world the tidal range is no more than a foot on the lake systems, so we also don't have to dry out on mud flats. Thanks again for watching, cheers Paul

Love your videos Paul , Do you have any special things you do to the boat after you get home , eg polishes or special washing cleaner , do you wash down sails etc , basically maintenance between sailing days
@SailingKateLouise
@SailingKateLouise Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, I normally wash down the decks , hull and obviously trailer ( fresh water). If there has been a lot of water marks I might add a bit of detergent. I don't wash the sails and probably should but it's a bit hard where I am. Then pump some grease into the bearing buddies, make sure all the bilges are dry and open all the buoyancy hatches so the timber can breath and prevent mould. That's about it, thanks for watching, cheers Paul

It's not all sunshine and fair winds then? Never seen you look as down as in this vid, even when you lost your sunnies Paul. Been following the Duyfken vids. Did you ever get a turn at the tiller? I am intrigued by how it works, as it looks like a bit of tree trunk vertical through the deck.
@SailingKateLouise
@SailingKateLouise Жыл бұрын
Hi Dale, yes helming the Duyfken is interesting. Everyone has to steer when on a 4 hour watch. The Whipstaff is like a vertical tiller extension that goes through the deck to the tiller. Ship's wheels weren't invented until the early 1700's and the Duyfken is a replica of a Dutch ship built in 1595. In heavy seas it can be tough so you only steer for half an hour at a time. Thanks for watching Sailing Duyfken, hopefully I will do some more detailed videos on the tall ship, cheers Paul

Hi, the water was still warm enough to go for a swim...but it's Autumn here and there is a bit of a chill in the air at night. Can't beat a good sunset though, cheers Paul
