It's my personal thought that everyone knows of him or knows him from at least the war on Ravnica. And all he did there was fight Nahiri, despite everyone trying to get both of them to help fight against Bolas. I think eventually, they halt the ego battle and do help, but everyone knows how much of a pain he is or was to work with. The last thing they wanted to have to do was talk him into helping them because they know he's difficult at best. And it seems completely hostile at worst.

I think this is the best story when compared to the last 10 sets I feel like it took itself more seriously and it used Inistrad's dark and gloomy atmosphere really well The sets from like eldraine onwords felt like the plain they took place in was just background without its own history and lore (this even extanded to some old plains like zendikar in zendikar rising) but this story not only used consequences from Inistrad's past events it introduced new ones (aka the eternal night) to spice up the story (plus imo the eternal night could have something to do with Emrakul messing with the silver moon) Overall a really great story and i hope wizards keeps it up in the future

I always wondered how Arlinn can control her lycantropy without simply becoming a savage and bloodlust werewolf (and if she is the only werewolf capable of doing this). This reminds me of the Silverfurs, back when Avacyn blessed the werewolves of the plane with the Cursemute: she couldn't get rid of the curse of lycantropy but at least the afflicted would retain their human consciousness while having all the pros of having a hybrid wolf body.

@@recurvestickerdragon That was the original name before Avacyn's magic went caput thanks to Nahari and the Wolfir reverted into becoming regular but good werewolves. (one might be in the set as Brutal Cathar) To give my theory to why Arlinn and the Silverfurs were able to keep control over their beast form, its explained by Avacyn in the Cursemute that the human and wolf side are warring with each other. So if the werewolf accepted their wolf side instead of rejecting it and fearing the transformation as normal, its possible that this grants them control in wolf form. To support this theory evil werewolves, while not outright stated, seem to have better control ever since the first set. Almost everything before War of the spark was made worse by the fact that most of those stories were building towards War of the Spark, and as you noted, the pay off was just disappointing. So, what did you think of the story? To me it was a bit meh, not too bad but nothing special. Not much happens. Days are getting shorter, people need to do the ritual, the werewolves try to stop it and Olivia ruins everything in the end. SOI and Eldritch Moon stories were much more interesting imo. Every week I was glued to the screen at the mistery happening. Also, I liked the moment where Nahiri put Sorin in the wall, since it had that poetic justice. Sorin did the same to her when he put her on the Helvault. And he gets out just like that? By chewing and clawing his way out? Felt too easy. From the image it doesn't seem like he could even face the wall to bite it.

They have constantly left more questions than answers when it has come to Innistrad and it's many stories left unanswered. My question to you is... Do you think Avacyn's absence is causing the longer nights, or do you think Emrakul tapped on the moon is weighing it down to where it's loosing momentum till the eternal night?

My hope for a 4th Innistrad set is that Crimson Vow doesn't deus ex machina a fix for the eternal night. While it may seem like a rehash of SOI, I'd like to see WotC explore the madness associated with the lack of a proper day/night cycle. Things are going to be difficult for humans, so I'd like to see how they either persevere with renewed faith in Sigarda or adapt to nightlife, as it were. The bad guy vampires and werewolves aren't thinking through the ecology of this. If the sun never rises again, the crops die, the grass dies, and the trees die. This means all the humans, all the livestock, and all the game starves to death. This means the vampires and werewolves have nothing to eat. The werewolves will starve to death. Depending on the vampire lore, the vampires will either starve to death, or live eternally in the agony of perpetual starvation and weakness.

I'm surprised you didn't end video with more thoughts on possible Emrakul theories/involvement.

I hope to god Sorin decided to agree to Olivia's "Marriage of houses" and thats how he got the sword back. I'd love to seensome sort of crazy Vampire wedding Mardu enchantment and if we do get an Olivia her name is now Olivia Markov.

I personally loved the Leisa story and would have loved to read more. I find her fascinating.

Yeah same. Wearing the shell of a demon as armor is kinda badass.

I always assumed Sorin was freed bye the interplanar beacon, which sadly doesn‘t explain the sword bring in his possesion again.

As always I love how you tell the stories of Magic lore. Just have a question. Do we know what Chandra or Teferi were doing while the rest of the party were looking for the key? What about Wren? Do we know what she was doing on Innistrad during all of this? Thanks.
@MagicArcanum3 жыл бұрын
Wrenn appeared in their own side story and had no connection to the main story (which I was covering in this video.) I might talk about her in a future episode, though. In the story, Sigarda announces where the key is, and Chandra, Kaya, Teferi, and Adeline all run off to get it, with Arlinn staying behind to help the angel fight Sorin. Sigarda tells Arlinn she'll be ok, so then Arlinn goes and catches up to the group, already in Sorin's personal chambers. I'm not sure why Secrets of the Key show only Teferi and Arlinn discovering the key, but that's not quite what happens in the written story.

I wonder if the eternal night is being caused by Emrakul since "she's" still on Innistrads moon, so it's possible she's the one causing the eternal night.

One of the biggest questions I have about the next set is not so much for the story but rather its mechanics. Since night has supposedly fallen forever, will the Day/Night and the Daybound/Nightbound mechanics return since they were such a major part of MID?
@MagicArcanum3 жыл бұрын
We know werewolves are returning and we know they'll still use daybound/nightbound. It's likely that we'll have other cards that force it to become night when they enter the battlefield, the same way Midnight Hunt gave us cards that forced it to become day (even though they weren't daybound themselves.)
@bobbyhanson3463 жыл бұрын
@@MagicArcanum I wonder if there will be cards (vampires) whose obverse face is Nightbound? So that when they enter, if it is neither day nor night it becomes night.

If Crimson Vow doesn't include "how Sorin got out of the wall" that would be a great appearance in the next Core set. Assuming there is a next Core set...
@JCetto.26123 жыл бұрын
Sorry I'm late, but life has been sucking life from me 🤭... I can't wait for you to complete this with Crimson Vow! Thanks for sharing this Ryan and Nicole!! P.S.: Olivia found Sorin trying to escape the wall, Sorin asks for help and she takes the blade... Olivia tells Sorin that she will free him but he must marry her in exchange... So she will be part of the Markov family expanding her power over Innistrad... That's my theory... What do you think about that?

I honestly think this is due to bloodbornes success at that time period. The surge in popularity in Gothic stuff in 2021 was cool. What we do in the shadows kicked up etc. Anybody notice how what we all seem to culturally like shifts in phases as a group sometimes?

Admittedly, I look forward to these videos because I'm too lazy to read the story for myself 😅 That said, the major plot point of an eternal night is very reminiscent of Lorwyn's transition into Shadowmoor, albeit triggered sooner than intended by the Great Mending.
