The butt is on both ends, but only colored on half of one side. You can see him rotating it with his fingers. It's just so subtle and so quick that it's hard to catch. But, it's a very simple trick.

Watch where his index finger and thumb are on the cigarette before it flips. His index goes to his right and the thumb to his left, super subtle roll of the cigarette with the misdirection being he gestured with the same hand. Same thing with his lips when he rolls it with his lips, you'll see the cigarette in his mouth dead middle of both lips, then his mouth is crooked after the roll. It's so hard to catch at full speed.

Cigarette has two oposing sides. He just spins it very fast. If you want to see it look for rotation not a flip which he can easily do in his fingers or even his mouth. Mouth is actually easy to catch you can see his lips are strait then displace after execution, fingers are lined then seperate slightly. Thats why a cylinder option is so great for this illusion. Great trick though!

Man I was so into magic as a kid. Cups and balls were one of my absolute favorites and I was really good at it. I had a set of spun aluminum cups I ordered from Paul Diamond's magic catalog and I did a routine I read about in one of Bill Severn's books. I used to spend hours and hours practicing and drooling over all the wondrous magic ads in those catalogs. 🙂

There are a few acts I have watched on repeat over the years, and even though I can see the moves being done to "vanish" or whatever other trick it is, I still, to this very day, even just now when you showed how to milk the end of that trick, was amazed. I think more people would be happier if they just CHOSE to enjoy magic.

at 8:30 I think he was also trying to be fast so that people can't see what he's doing but it's not enjoyable to watch someone manipulating cards in a way that you can't follow because you know they're doing something, the best magic is when it's slow and visual yet you still can't see what's going on.

@Don Duke If it were so, the orange filter would add to the white end and there would be a length added relative to his gripping fingers. It's not an addition, it's a substitution.. the white effectively becomes orange and vice versa. I think you meant the paper would be free to slide along a two filters end cigarette. But he's gripping the paper on the cigarette, so how does it slide?

It is certain, the paper can slide along the cigarette because of the 4th minute: he sucks air and it slides. The problem is the third minute.
