I'm really happy I'm sitting here rather than Penn and Teller's position. There were so many things happening and so many jokes cracked that I cannot even process what's happening let alone to guess how he does it. And Penn and Teller get only one chance to look at it the same way any other viewer would see. And they still got it right! Respect to both of them! By the way, my take on the Aesop's fable is that, the frogs need the sun for their survival. But they're not aware of it. They only see that the sun dries up their mud and complain about it. No matter what good you do to your society, someone will see something bad in you and will complain. Thank you Jason for the video. Keep them coming!

I guess he controls the three cards to the top of the deck when he runs through the deck to show the new deck order. During the faro shuffle he merges below those cards. Alyson deals the cards one after the other onto his hand, he only tells her to do groups etc. after the initial three cards are dealt. Then he controls the cards to the top like others already mentioned at 3:40. For the book: There seems to be a second page 85, to which he opens it for Alyson. Looking closely at 5:47 and 7:14, you can see the page comes after the middle at first, but when Alyson opens it, page 84/85 comes before the middle of the book. I didn't see the deck switch, but the camera isn't on him when the deck switches from his right to his left hand at 5:56 The flap most likely refers to a flap which he holds onto the sealed deck, so it looks like an opened deck when Alyson signs it. At 6:06 you can see the addded flap not being flat on the deck at its edge Not sure if I'm right, it's just my best guess. (I haven't gone through all other comments, so maybe all of that had already been mentioned)
@MarkusFriedel834 жыл бұрын
Just realized he never runs through the deck up to the 8 of hearts at the beginning, in order to control that card to the top. But as he doesn't show the deck up to the 8 of hearts, this one could have been on top of the deck (below the ad cards) in the sealed deck.

It’s a classic idea to keep the top card (force card) or in this case a few cards, including 8 and 5 on the top while doing a riffle shuffle. She then starts dealing and after those 3 are dealt he then says she can do bunches of cards or whatever. He spreads the cards as if to show how cards are normally selected and retains a break at the bottom 3 cards. He really just has to do a pass or even just shift those cards to top as squaring.
@JasonParkerMagic4 жыл бұрын
hmmmm wow! Well described. I think that might be the closest description to how he did it. In fact, after clicking publishing I went and watched that section again super slowly... and RIGHT BEFORE it cuts to another angle... you see Shawn getting fingers into position under the spread... probably exactly like you said in preparation for a pass. HMMM. I wish the camera would have given us a full view of this moment though. There are just a few frames where I could see it starting to happen....

Jason, I think you saw the interesting thing that I saw in the 2 shuffles, based on your look at the camera at 3:33 minutes. I was lucky enough to also catch the important sectioning out of the 2 bottom cards immediately after, just before a camera angle change prevented us from clearly seeing the control to the top of the deck (my assumption, but it just has to be correct). That is why it didn't matter how Allison shuffled the cards after dealing out the first 2 (probably reversed order). I completely agree with you on your assessment that 85 had to be predetermined.
@sbaxter42074 жыл бұрын
The "WoW" factor was missing for me. it was all happening so fast. Yet, when he resealed the pack back in the plastic, I thought that was done in such a simple way, as he just closed the flap!. This harms the first P&T trick. Although, how got them in new deck order and with the page inside is hard to see as the camera cuts away!

from 3:40-3:45. palm of his hand is over his lapel, he "motivates' touching his chest by saying "you have cards and "I have cards." making the unnatural move of bringing his palm to his chest seem "natural"
@helderboymh4 жыл бұрын
If you play his hand going from his chest down to the stack in slow motion(0.25%) you won't see him having palmed card there and even his fingers are quite far a part at one point. I watched it multiple times, this would have to be the sickest palm ever especially considering he somehow got them from his chest wich doesn't seem like a palm that would allow you to set them up so precisely.
@DVineMe4 жыл бұрын
@@helderboymh Indeed, well you can't see if he's palming anything or not, but his hand goes fairly straight before he even touches the deck. Nevertheless this is one of the best magicians in the world. So I honestly wouldn't put it past him lol. Also it is a well known spot to have a hidden pocket, so... Still, could all be misdirection. at 3:40 (exactly 6 or 7 seconds later, when the camera angel switches to his front)) you see, how he devides the 3 last cards from the rest of the deck, so he can put them on the top of the deck. @jason, I think the hint from teller is "fast and furious and clean and that maybe we'd forget stuff," regarding the force. If you look at what happens when he has alison putting the cards in his hand, the first few cards she puts down are just whatever was on top when Shawn handed her the deck. (fast and furious meaning the reason it works is Alison puts enough cards down to complete the trick before she starts messing with the deck, and forget stuff about not recognizing she already places enough cards before she did so). At which point any manipulation that puts those three cards on the top completes the force. (the clean reference). Could even have made it easier by picking an order that sequenced 5-8-J as the top three when handed to alison so that when reversed in his hand (from Alison placing them one at a time) they are already in J-8-5 order and it's simply a matter of lifting them to the top of the deck while his hand covers it. Unless you saw more in the palm movements than I did that made it impossible for him to have manipulated them that way (I know you said you didn't see him /add/ new cards, but that would have different indicators I think)

I believe the first two farro shuffles brought the jack the 8 and the 5 to the top of the deck. As Allison counted they were now at the bottom of the pile in his hand. My guess is that the deck was not completely in new deck order. He only showed the lower half of the deck until the 'kissing Kings'. And when he did the shuffles, the top cards stayed in place. When the cards were placed into his hand, he told her only after the first few cards, that she can also put down multiple cards. So the desired cards were at the bottom. @notbob5554 жыл бұрын
The way I see it, you aren't allowed to use a camera trick, meaning you can't use the live cameras that Penn, Teller, and the audience are watching. But after the fact editing is irrelevant for fooling Penn and Teller, so the audience at home doesn't necessarily get the same performance.
@ShawnFarquhar4 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for anyone else, but I have never had any control over where the cameras are placed, which shots are used, or any input into the editing of the segment. I don't think I even met the Director. I heard his voice once in the rehearsal. LOL
@bilskro4 жыл бұрын
My take, seems like a reasonable straight forward force. Due to cameraman it is impossible to be sure, but I don’t think he palmed the cards and placed them on top even though he put his hand up to his vest. First he shows the deck of cards starting at the bottom saying they are in new deck order (call me suspicious). He starts showing the spades, then the diamonds, then clubs and then rushes through the rest of the deck so he never shows what cards are actual on top, which I think is where the J, 5 and 8 laid in wait. So when the deck is turned over, those 3 cards are on top of the deck and he does a few shuffles never messing up the top 3 cards. Then Alison deals those top 3 cards to him and now they are on the bottom of his hands and only after that point does he tells Alison she can pull cards from anywhere. Then the useless POS cameramen decides instead of showing us the deck of the cards we would want to see the back of Faruhar’s suit; butut if you look at 3:47 right after he spreads the cards out and look at his fingers position you can see he is separating those 3 cards at that point. I think somewhere when we are looking at his back he moves the bottom 3 cards to the top of the deck (I wonder if the cameraman is paid off or incompetent). Now there is so much going on with this trick it is hard to even follow all of it. For the deck switch he had all the time in the world to swap the deck and the trick was as Penn said the “FLAP”. I think the sealed deck had the fake flap which he then removed at 6.37 leaving a sealed deck. It was hard to see the book swap as once again the cameraman shows what he wants to show, but he had all the time in the world to swap the book and Penn mentioned pocket. So I am not 100% sure if book swap or just a book with some gimmick. I will have to research the Pegasus Page. You did not do a video on Ondrej, that fooled Penn and Teller. I must be missing something or maybe there was something there more complicated. Penn checked the cards and they were not fake that could only leave me with one conclusion. They acted like she pulled the Ace of Spades and then she picked the mouth to feed the bug into. She fed the bug into a mouth and then he played a video clip. I would guess he had a Video clip ready no matter what Mouth she chooses. Any other opinions? Also you did not mention Gertner. One bad break for Gertner was that Penn picked 47, so there would have only been 5 more cards remaining and there were clearly more than 5 cards remaining which is why he quickly straightened up the deck. But I am going to ignore that fact, as I am interested in the pen. He did not give the Pen to Penn until after Teller picked the pick and Pen choice his number. Penn kept saying the word force again and again. My question did he force the pick or not. Because if Teller had free choice of the picks that means Gertner had a hell of lot of pens in his coat. At a minimum he had to have 52. I am curious how he had all those pens organized so he could quick and easy pick it out. As for the card pick as Penn kept saying rough and smooth again and again.
@monteanderson71814 жыл бұрын
Penn also said "mythical flying horses," but a unicorn deck is just a design, not an effect, right? He also said "pocket," which, I assume refers to the deck and *possible* book switch. He knew Allison would deal the cards one by one at first, so, perhaps after the faro shuffles, (I think mentioning "learning" from Penn about perfect shuffles was verbal misdirection that he was, maybe doing faros that were perfect *for him*) he knew those 3 cards would be first and somehow controlled those 3 to the top. (I didn't see it.) I know I'm stretching for an answer...

He used the top 3 cards and instructed Alyson to hand over cards 1 at a time at the start, so the cards at the bottom of the pile could have been forced. The flashy hand waves before the card reveals could be to hide that he moved the bottom cards to the top.

I don't go back to check, but I feel like Penn said probably something about doing the same trick again. Since they have to tell the trick to the judges, after the show they might reveal it to P&T.

I think .... When he initially shown new deck it is ok... But when he put the cover in it's pocket he took extra J, 8,5 and then placed at top.... Then he shows the deck from bottom side face-up .... When it was dealt on his hand by Allison.. Those 3 cards went to bottom.... At 3:48 when he spread the card... He took 3 cards from bottom & placed it at top...

I've no idea how it works, but isn't a card flap where a card starts out as one card and then the same card instantly turns into another? It can also be done with card boxes to change their colour or design.

The force happens when he rests his hand against his breast when she is dealing to his hand. He grabs the other three cards before placing them on top. This is at 3:42 in the frame there. The camera doesn't show us this because we are looking at his back unfortunately, but this is where it occurs. Everything else is just preset.
@helderboymh4 жыл бұрын
Please explain as after that frame she still puts more cards on there and she could have continued. If you mean him putting his right hand on top at 3:44 to straighten the cards up. This is also not where he puts cards on top as we see in the part before that his right hand is empty and he only puts it on his chest and then on top, he could not have taken the cards from his chest in between. Also if you play it in slow you won't see any cards in his right hand as he puts it on top.
@checkyoursixgaming4 жыл бұрын
@@helderboymh at 3:42 is when he is palming the 3 cards to place on top when she is done putting whatever she wants in whatever order she wants. Due to bad camera angles we don't get to see it too well, but I assure you he has grabbed the cards when he reaches up to his chest. Everything else is just preset to do based on those 3 palmed cards. You can see by 3:44 that is hand is now cupped instead of flat as that is the motion to be palming the cards. He could have easily hidden a special device inside the jacket breast there to aid him in holding those cards to be palmed and delivering them to his hand. Penn's reference to "Flight" was talking about making the card's fly to his hand for use on the force. The Base right in the pocket is referring to his jacket breast pocket area. This is why Penn wasn't fooled because he caught that and knew the rest of the act as well. Same with the reference to the flap of the jacket pocket. He didn't want to say "force" because most people these days understand what that means even in magicians code, so he was stating where he saw the force happen and how it happened with those references.
@AlphaMachina4 жыл бұрын
He got her to cap the pen so that it masked the sound of him relidding the deck of cards. A magician rarely does anything for no reason at all, and he specifically asked her to cap the pen while at the same time fiddling with the deck lid. Key word here is.. "flap" The flap, the lid of the deck.
@brianrhinehart512 жыл бұрын
He is awesome. But your correct, he forced those 3 cards to top and used two decks and setup 2 books ahead of time. He did really great slight of hand on the shuffle but after those 3 cards were selected it is pretty straight forward.

technically a hat trick is 3 goals by the same player in an ice hockey game.... other sports have adopted the analogy but it's stems from a hockey player scoring 3 goals in one game (a "natural hat trick" is 3 goals in a row by the same player)

Playing this at 0.25 speed, 1080p and full screen, he did not palm the 3 cards. He waved his hand quite a bit in front of Alyson and rotated in every angle. Nothing traveled through the sleeve, both hands were tracked. It was not a palmed force. The shuffle seemed fair, the choice seemed free. I'm fooled.

For the card selection, I think the cards are the first three cards to be dealt as, when Alyson stops dealing, he spreads the cards so he could side steal the bottom three cards and add them to the top. Also when Alyson signs the box, you can see it already has the plastic on it.
