Jason Parker I'm not really that impressed with Shin. He's a one trick pony and I am never fooled by his slight of hand. If you are impressed than I guess my eyes see his crappy moves better than your eyes. I could actually see the card switch during the act. The photo was taken at an angle that the audience, judges, and cameras could not see. And the card was actually a trick card. Duhhh.

Tobin Soyck yes I saw these things as well, but didn’t see the need to expose his performance... and I think he executes them really well since he is fooling most people! One thing you forgot to mention is that the picture was taken prior to Melissa actually naming her cards. So regardless of what technology Shin might or might not have used for that special blank card, the captured image should not have shown queen of diamond unless Shin and Melissa had agreed that was the card she is going to pick ahead of time or Shin truly possesses magical power.

It just took me 15 minutes but I found out the effect. It's called double exposure and david Blaine did it to Jaden smith in one of his specials. Apparently it's actually a pretty simple effect and has nothing to do with a technology app or anything like that

Melissa picture was staged. By looking at the way she posed, you cannot see the right side of her cleavage (from where Shin Lim took the picture). Her right arm blocked her right cleavage. But, the picture on the phone clearly show cleavage on her right side. Also, the shadow of the card is different on the phone picture and the pose. That's the way I see it.

Penn and Teller gave him the trophy due to respect of his act. Because he made it so flawless. Penn and Teller knew how he did everything, but the gave up trying to solve it during his live performance because they just wanted to enjoy his act. This was stated by Penn and Teller, and Shin knew they gave it to him.

It’s unbelievable how he setup the queen of diamond on the blank card for the photo. Unlike any other force pick, it’s just a simple question “what’s your favorite card?” and she can choose any card after the photo was taken.

I noticed Shin Lim has a permanent queen of diamon tattooed over his chest, around the heart area. You can see this also in his Vlog for his wedding event on his KZbin channel. He use that card often in many of his tricks now that I've watched like 20 videos of his performances. :) That is most likely his go-to card when he designs tricks.

Shin fooled Penn and Teller two times and now won AGT and AGT Champions. Shin Lim is an artist. The way he combines the music, magic and stage performance with every gimmick on beat is nothing short of art. He has set the new bar for magic. Now I hear Penn And Teller refer to other magicians as the Shin Lim of sponge balls or refer to Shin in other ways. I think his name will be as synonymous with magic as David Copperfield has been for decades.

Phone trick works like this: Shin had a tiny USB device connected to the bottom of her phone. Notice that he touch the screen to confirm the connection. This device would automatically begin to share her photos with Shin's assistant. His assistant Photoshop the image and replace the original image.

It's the sense of wonder of it all. Kind of like being a kid and seeing Santa. You later learn it wasn't real. But in that moment, it was magic. So, in the end, it isn't important how he did it (except for other magician's edification, maybe). What was important is that moment and the memory we'll take away from that moment. Sort of feeding back to his opening dialog. Very subtle and ingenious, in my opinion. Thank you, Jason. I loved your reaction … part analytical magician, part onlooker just enjoying a well-done performance.

Shin Lim was born and had his early education in Singapore 🇸🇬. Singapore must be very proud of her people achieving world class competitions although only a small country the size of NY city with a population of 5 mil. At the Rio olympics her swimmer Joseph Schooling won a gold against USA!. It is a well respected country and was the venue for first Trump-Kim summit.

Come one! those camera cuts are not an issue because there are live audiences and one close up audience to verify the authenticity of the act! Those live audiences are not tehre to cover up for him so it doesn't really matter if TV audiences cannot see every angle!

mc a_a hello there! :) As I mentioned in the video, I’m sure if we were observing Shin in real time we would all be fooled. I was only lamenting that as a magician watching from home, the camera cuts remove my ability to enjoy seeing “the main course” from my point of view. It’s only a little disappointing. And I also point out that I recognize they probably should do this for tv... so it makes sense. Just wish I could see it unedited for my own enjoyment! ;)

When you perform on such a stage, we can rule that out because then other contestants would find it unfair that "paid" actors are in it for other contestants. AGT would want to keep its reputation intact, too.

This can be done using influencing techniques in mentalism but I highly doubt that Shin Lim has grip on mentalism!!! And yes, the card was gimmicked as you can only see when the eye/camera is at angle of 90 degree, from other angles, it just looks like black screen.

My theory: When the girl handed him the phone, he put a sticker with a picture of the queen of diamonds on it. At 6:46 you can get a glimpse of the phone just before she handed it to him. I'm not sure but it looks like the card on the picture on the phone is a blank and NOT yet the queen of diamonds. He MIGHT even have removed the sticker later to get rid of the evidence. At 7:48 it looks like it's a blank card in the phone's foto again. (Plus: notice the girl's reation. When she first looks at the phone at 6:42, she doesn't look surprised or awed or like she is seeing a miracle. Rather she looks puzzled like "what's so special?". Only AFTER he got a chance to handle the phone does she look surprised.)

All wrong. Its a special card that when interacts with a camera flash light, it reveals the face of the card. You can see shin used the camera flash despite the bright surroundings.

Jason, I don't know how much you have followed AGT, but during Howard Stern's last year, AGT cut way back on the "bad" acts and increased the amount of time spent on Judges "cameos." The viewers hated it so much that by the end of the season viewership had dropped from about 12-15 million weekly to about 4-6 million. The next year Simon appeared and the bad acts returned as the cameos were shortened. This year on the regular AGT the cameos were very restricted (until the final episode) and the bad act continued to be a major part of the show. AGT Champions did not have any bad acts but a lot more time was spent on the history or background of the performers. Again the cameos were restricted until the final show. All of this is to say I, like you and millions of others, enjoy the bad acts as much as the good ones.

Hey Jason, couple thing's astonished me during Shin's AGT Champions performance with Terry Crews on this clip I have here: "kzbin.info/www/bejne/mavIioWelNWCqrs" When I played this video I noticed at: 3:06-3:08- Shin touched the top left corner of the deck he was holding in his left hand right before the exact moment the deck turned into another color. I saw some kind of a small light real quickly blink. When Shin slid his right index finger over the top left corner deck he was holding. Shin then placed his right hand over the entire deck and they all turned from a blue deck to a red deck.? I saw some kind of small light that came on the top left of the deck of cards he was holding. I wasn't sure what that light was so I watched again in Slow-Mo & sure enough that light I seen was coming from the deck where he had touched that corner. I think that there's something that made the deck change color when he touched the left top corner. Also on that same video clip. I was amazed has I played in Slow-Mo the vanishing of the 2 cards at: 2:29-2:34. I don't know how he made those cards disappear? YOU? And in the clip you reacting to now on this page? At the very end of his performance I noticed when Shin turned over the "Queen Of Diamonds?" There wasn't any lipstick on the card. At this point her lipstick should've still been on the card Shin turned over from the table at the end. Right? Let me know if you see the small sliver beam of light as I saw on this video clip I put in my post above. Could it be the shine from the spot light suddenly come on at the same exact time following his finger when he touched the deck before changing the decks color? Coincidental? Hat's off to Shim...he deserved to win...first time I seen him as you said...being human! I feel like copying his routine if it goes viral! I already do these effects myself but not the kiss and folded card because I would have to reset the entire deck every time I perform and as a table hopper its impractical. The photo premonition is easy to do with a WOW sleeve. As for the ACAN effect when she shuffles, cuts and counts...that had me completely fooled!

For the ACAAN, if you're really curious, you can actually figure it out just by watching him closely. There is a camera cut at the critical moment, but you still can get the idea what he did. I don't want to say too much else! :)

@@JasonParkerMagic I've watched this a few times and amazing as it was...I believe it was only possible if Shin knew before hand that Melissa would choose the Queen of diamonds mainly because he made the switch with the gimmicked card 0:51 before she said it and his reaction was very unconvincing unless I am mistaken. The million dollar question is what would have happened if she had said: "Two of hearts."

The card wasnt blank on the other side , obviously it was some kind a black field that when he takes a picture of it with flashes , the camera can see clearly what is behind that black field that normal eyes might not be able to. So he predicted the card since the beginning , maybe he was lucky to mentally forced her to think of the right card . If she did not choose it, i guess shin would just do the first Acaan effect , and then do any kind of force to make her have the queenofdiamonds from the deck. ( or sometimes, sometimes she was told to choose the card beforehand , who knows)

Just a random thought.....when she looked at her phone she had no recognition that the card she was holding now was the Queen (which seems kind of odd). Then he took her phone and appeared to try to expand the picture but nothing happened. Then the second time it expanded and was obviously the Queen, then he did it one more time so it was easy for the camera to see. Maybe a technical gimmick that the first time he touched it was causing the card to look like the Queen? Maybe?

In Chinese stories, we have normal ppl making pacts with deities who wants to accumulate good karma through asking ppl to help them to do good deeds on their behalf.In exchange, these deities would help them with special powers.But one cannot do bad deeds or it would backfire on the bestowed and bestower.

Food Monster well before the show it’s possible he asked if he could try out using her phone to make sure he doesn’t mess up while taking a photo during the performance and he installed it then, so she didn’t actually know. Or even had a friend come up and start talking to her right after asking to borrow it so her attention was to the friend while he installed the app. I could imagine social engineering ways to get the app installed

actually, this trick is for fun and is not for competition. shin's Dream Act and 52 Shades are legit acts that won in FISM and Penn & Teller Fool Us and have videos on KZbin with no cuts from FISM. The judges are sitting in front and below him, while the guest is 45 degrees beside him. *The camera is in front and above him.* Also, this is a much simpler trick than shin's dream act and 52 shades. shin does not need to cheat in this trick. many card magicians know this trick. this trick is not for competition and is for fun. remember this is different from AGT helping other magicians cheat. Anything Shin did in FISM and Penn and Teller, and any street magic he does here, are all likely legit. there are only some things that i suspect AGT cheated on, but this performance should be all real. again, editing is fair because the camera angle is unfair. if you want a front camera angle for shin's dream act and 52 shades, you can KZbin his FISM and his China tour. They have front camera views. Remember, his best acts are all legit and doesn't need AGT editing. AGT just edits the sh1t out of everything.

Yes a lot is cut in THIS performance, because the video camera has an unforgiving eye and doesn’t allow for misdirection you would normally experience if watching in real life. (For example are my Comic Con street magic video when I put a card to my mouth... relies entirely on misdirection, which only works in person.) 3. I don’t believe in spirits / black magic. 4. It’s a magic effect known as French kiss by Wayne Houchin.

I don't know how he manipulated her to pick that card. But I noticed Shin Lim has a permanent queen of diamon tattooed over his chest, around the heart area. You can see this also in his Vlog for his wedding event on his KZbin channel. He uses that card often in many of his tricks now that I've watched like 20 videos of his performances. :) That is most likely his go-to card when he designs tricks. Phenomenal showmanship & entertainer!

On Android and Apple phones, you don't need to unlocked to access the camera for taking photos. You need pin to view pictures already in gallery. He didn't need her pin to snap a picture.

What's up with all the haters? Maybe you need to change it to "First Time React Analysis Without Giving The Trick Away" because I think the downvotes are from people not wanting you to stop in the middle of the video and just see your expression. But as a magic guru that you are, I think you should do more of these analysis without giving the trick away. Like just the methodology or relate it to who came up with the method as you stop in between frames. This would be cool because people who don't do magic tricks can get an inside look on how you guys evaluate and view magic tricks. Just my opinion to get the haters outta the way lol.

Hello Chia, thanks for the thoughtful comment! Yeah I too am surprised by the number of haters lol. I feel like they don't understand what I'm trying to do.... which is primarily have fun... and give my first time reaction and some thoughts... some speculation.... without giving away too many secrets... striking a balance. From your comment, it seems you understand exactly what I was doing. I'm not too sure what else I can do to reduce the haters. I'm not sure I can change the title of the video because it's keywords-based... so I have to use keywords that viewers are searching for, so that my video will be discovered. And if I put title as you suggested I think a lot of people might not click on it. Hmmmmm.... Actually in this video I did try to do what you said... I mentioned Wayne Houchin was the inventor of that card in the mouth switch effect. :-D But most of the rest of the magic was classic sleight of hand with cards... palming, top changes, etc. And those don't really have a specific inventor I can credit... and if I were to just call them out as they happened.... it would feel more like direct exposure to me. So I instead paused the video near that spot and at least made my comment about how they are switching camera angles at the right moment to hide us from seeing a full view of these things. But you're right... I'm trying to do commentary even non-magicians can appreciate. As well as magicians. Some speculation. Not too much revealing. The TOUGH thing about providing some evaluation / critique..... if I say ANYTHING at all negative about Shin Lim's performance... people get all pissed off and start calling me a hater or saying why am I not on TV doing the same?? lol. Yet, if I were to just only give praise.... which would be easy to do.... it's also unrealistic and not balanced. I tried to focus more on the positives (which is actually very easy with Shin Lim).... but I guess even that wasn't enough for some of these haters. ANYWAY..... sorry for the wall of text. I just appreciated your comment and it got me to thinking.... what can I do? to reduce the dislikes/haters.... Hopefully I'll get some more nice/thoughtful comments like yours again in the future! :)

@@JasonParkerMagic Thanks for replying. I think your audience should be people who are interested in magic. With AGT titles, you get randoms that hate for the dumbest reasons. This is probably why you get more views when you do some kinda AGT or media-TV talent type magic shows. You have people who have no clue about magic coming to see you critique or react who probably have zero idea of basic techniques. I think those who don't understand and just bias will give a thumbs down. Your videos are forwarding and unbiased. You do stop and provide technical analysis without giving the trick away, which is what myself along with many others like to see. Maybe try doing reacts on other magic shows, Penn and Teller maybe. It's always interesting to see other good magicians react and analyze live during a one take shot.
