After playing New leaf, and waiting for something new, I Came across Magicians quest. It’s certainly not perfect, but it felt soo refreshingly different! And would love to see a fresh remake.

You're acting like Animal Crossing owns the whole "life-simulation" genre... Magician's quest is it's own series, has a story, and lots of features and villagers we'll never get in Animal Crossing. There some things that it had before Animal Crossing. 1. Deers villagers 2. Narcissist personality. Or what they're called in A.C., Smug. 3. WANDS! NEW HORIZONS HAS WANDS! DON'T TELL ME THAT'S NOT MAGICIAN QUEST! MQMT is better.

When I heard that Magician's Quest was being discussed, I was actually quite interested. I've owned this game for a decade now, and it's been an incredibly underrated game in my opinion. The reason it wasn't given much attention was, as the video states, people believe it's just an animal crossing ripoff. Heck, that's the reason it's so hard to find, because it's so incredibly underrated. The game has a personal charm to it, and considering its release date, it's not given the love it deserves. But hey, that's just my opinion at least.

I don't see why he's ripping so hard on MQ. It fixed or improved some pretty big progression flaws AC had at the time while introducing new and interesting mechanics. It certainly wasn't perfect, but it was great at the time for an AC clone. This review is pretty terrible considering he doesn't even know the purpose of the bathroom.

Okay. So you're just gonna keep the bathroom mechanics to yourself, or... ? Maybe he had trouble discerning the mechanics because of this kind of secrecy. Kind of weird tbh to mention he doesn't understand the mechanic, and then just... leave it at that.
@drnarwhal2888
@drnarwhal2888 3 жыл бұрын
@@charliethecockatoo2159 If you really want to know that badly, there is an in-game tutorial that teaches you how to utilize the bathroom. There is an incantation that summons a phantasm in the second stall. The incantation chant symbols "Incantation-play-[boy or girl depending on which gender your character selected at the beginning of the game]-toilet". Then you hold a tulip which is an early game item to complete the incantation. The phantasm will literally will tell you information about any given student character in the game, so they are extremely useful for getting your classmates to like you when you need their help for the weekly quests.

0:20 Oh? You mean the Life-simulation? As in the _genre_? Last time I check Animal Crossing doesn't own that. Good way to start the video with the most aggressive statement I heard. 0:40 Well let's see how much you "played". 0:50 Oh boy can't wait to see the lash and nonsense. 1:21 Again. It's a life-simulation. 1:28 Well yes, but actually no. 1:37 The voices more resemble the voices from Chulip than Animalese. 1:50 Pressing "Enroll" by accident happens... 2:10 Persimmon 2:14 Eh, not so much. Not to mention that item you're talking about wasn't added until New Leaf! 2:21 You're right, this video is a joke. A joke of a review, and I'm not even half way in the video. 2:26 Or any other game? 2:38 Wow. You didn't even TRY! 2:50 Considering there's a some kind light in the room and how Mystery Time effects are. There's windows seen outside of the dorm. They're there but not visible in the rooms. 2:57 That's because it's not Animal Crossing! 3:05 You're enrolled in a school, you did with your own will. What you need an explanation for? 3:13 If you did that, you would have learn how to move furniture, hm? 3:47 That. That right there is where you mess up buddy. 3:57 Oh no! Tools! So idea taking! 4:04 Nope. It was the bullcrap you said in the video so far. 4:08 Heavily copying? These are common tools. Animal Crossing doesn't own them. 4:34 Actually, they "go in the 'spellbook'" when you take the class. That's how learning works. 4:41 Or you know.... Press the start button... retake the class.... Google it?... 5:10 Again. The Start button. Do. You. Use. It? 5:20 If it was by ABC, it would be difficult. How it's organize is perfect how it is. 5:26 It's a school. What you want it to do? Turn into a giant robot? 5:48 Oh no! Designing clothes! Such thievery! 5:54 Well if you actually played it or look up the spells list online. You would have learn the bathroom has another purpose. 6:22 They need a home! Where you want them to live, outside? 6:25 Oh no! Having birthdays and personalities! 6:35 That's not a bear... surprising how you don't mention the game had deers before A.C., but I guess that's one of your "But Animal Crossing!" excuse. 6:42 He's a possess phone. AND HE'S OUR LORD! 6:47 (Insert almost every gen 1 mon here) 6:52 Solid? You mean god tier. 7:02 "I only played for 5-10 hours". 7:15 In your dreams you can. 7:18 It's *slams fist* Not. *slams fists* ANIMAL CROSSING!! 7:31 That's how real life works 7:47 Leave him alone! He's an anti-social and grumpy, and that's why some people, such as myself likes him! 7:57 PERSIMMON! And Reginald is a nice guy. He gives the player a wardrobe, their 3000 scholarship fund, and you can ask him questions about school, money and whatnot. 8:02 Oh boohoo! Welcome to life buddy! Wah! The little chibi model college students hurt your feelings. 8:16 Yes because Animal Crossing has "Grade A" dialogue. Also the characters in this game aren't stiff, you have no right to say that Mr. Only played for 5-10 hours. 8:26 What you want the principal to have? A high pitch voice? 8:30 This video is dull and boring, yet I'm making myself suffer listening to you whining about how the game "isn't like Animal Crossing". 8:36 "Don't make sense". A majority of A.C. villagers phrases are related to their species or their appearance. :/ 8:53 Do some research 9:00 "Don't make sense", if you was a villager this would be your catchphrase. This is you in the whole video up to this point. 9:04 Imagine claiming a game with a good number of things to do was considered "rush". 9:10 Tiresome? Mystery Time is the whole main thing of the game! It's literally in the U.S. title name! 9:15 Now you're comparing it to other popular games? 9:34 Or... when you activate Mystery Time using the key. But eh, you probably weren't paying attention. 9:38 Just google them! 9:49 Hm... strange you have the Familiar, which begins in the last week of March, and yet this video was publish before that. Not to mention you did say you only played for 5-10 hours. You're terrible at and to this game! 10:10-10:25 OH NO! Shaking trees, picking flowers & mushrooms, sending letters! Having a bank and bulletin board! So offensive! SO IDEA TAKING! 10:26 That's a mummy. You see a skeleton, mainly the teacher during Mystery Time. But you probably didn't do nothing. Also Mah is a taxi driver, not a sea captain. 10:32 Eh, more or less. Some areas are flat down, camera angle different too. 10:40 Comparisons? More like senseless nitpicking and excuses to make compares. 10:43 Gee... I wonder why, couldn't have been from crappy reviews like this and complete unnecessary lashing. The game is very popular in Japan. In fact it receive a 8.5-9.5/10 in Japan. Compare to inexcusable 5-7/10 outside of Japan. Almost all with invalid reasons. 11:00 Or... Just emulate it... 11:20 Yeah, much, much more. 11:25 That's with any other game... 11:41 I been playing this game since 2018. I reset it multiple times because it's fun. 11:52 I rather cast a lightning spell on you...

After playing this game for a bit, still pretty confused btw for the most part of playing it. I loved it. Soundtrack is awesome, animations kinda suck but thats about it, although it does fit thr game in general so no points loss. Calling it a clone is a fricking insult. Its like calling terraria the BS version of minecraft and calling it trash. This is a different game. Granted, not completely different, but different all the same. The characters actually react whenever uou do something outside of their usual dialouge, and the magic system is quite complex. The focus of the game is not the animal crossing esque play style, its the magic school theme! It does a swell job of that! This game is more inspired by AC. Don't ever call it a clone because there are other games like AC out there with a partly top down view.

Fish, Catch bugs, Complete museum, collect furniture and decorate.... In Magician quest, it's different. There's so much to do! So many things we'll never see in Animal Crossing. like, jeez... Idk DATE YOUR FAVORITE VILLAGERS?! You know!! The thing that a lot of Animal Crossing fans want! Rather than "pretending". Not. Everyone. Is. An. Animal. Or has the same mold! Look at a species in Animal Crossing. Notice how they're basically the same copy-paste and some colors change. The 4th Magician's quest HAS A LOP EAR BUNNY whose cutely and basic enough is named "Lop"! Like come on! There's a lot of diversity in there games! The villagers, all the different species (Food, Humanoids, objects), some the music HAS VOCALS IN IT! Heck even in the starter of the game you can choose how you want your character to be. There was skin tones! Before Animal Crossing. None of that "tanning" bullshit! Sorry. You didn't play the game long enough. It just looks like you did the basic classes, got the mystery key, solve one mystery and that's it! Btw Reginald teaches you the basic stuff. How to move furniture, fish, etc. He's there for reason!

I played this game and damn I rlly liked it bk then. The spells are easy to remember, and they are essential to solve those mystery cases. The mystery cases have interesting stories, require specific items which you can pick or craft and require investigations with the ppl in town. The bar is used as a place to obtain sources or hints of the mystery cases, not just for fun drinks lol There is also the character Hanako (a famous urban legend in japan which appears in washroom) in the washroom. The game is fun because u rlly need to explore and investigate yourself, not just shouting it out to your face wt you need to do lol

Same! I spend many hours playing this game as a kid, collecting the many brooms, solving the mysteries, befriending the classmates and many more. I also became really fond of a Deer Girl, Meg, I think she was called, from the boxart, then she left, I also looked for info on the web, found nothing, then the others started leaving, that left me devastated, and stoped playing it. Overall I felt bad thinking of the guilt of playing games like animal crossing and then leaving the characters alone when trying a new game Just resently I started playing it, to revive the nostalgia while waiting to buy New Horizons jeje and was shocked to see this video, I clicked so fast.

Um..game *shouldn't* be 80$ at all not unless you go to the worst place on the internet -ebay then of course you'll see it for that price, my memory serves me well -so does amazon? But it's best to get the game through emulation for free not buy it because now there annoyingly raising the prices for anything that is close to animal crossing to make profit out of gullible people. the game *is* good and it's got this warm Harry Potter vibes to it. I loved playing it when I was a kid and knew damn well that game didn't cost that much when it first released. (Side note; if you do manage to play this game and understand it you'll realize it's not rushed at all, the dev's took they're time making this game and not making it overwhelming or just out right dull) -it was close to 29$ if I am correct or like 20$ around there because it was new at that time.

I bought it the day that it came out. I actually like it more than Wild World. The sequels added more content. One added modeling and fashion design to it, and one added a bakery, where you could cook things and run your own shop. Then, the 3DS version lets you run an entire mall. And, you can customize and place where all of the stores go, including downloading actual Japanese stores and their products into the game. It's a shame that Konami dropped this series, as I really hoped that they would make another for the Switch. But, they released a new version of the game every ten or eleven months, and people got tired of playing the same game over and over again. Even though they did have a feature where you could transfer your progress from one version of the game to another, you needed two DS consoles hooked to the internet to do so, and once you transfered your progress to the newer version of the game, it was lost on the older version. I also liked that the villagers were based around horror movie monsters, creatures from mythology, and yokai.

I played this game for the first time a little more than 2 years ago, in winter 2019 (I think it might have been in January), and played for a while until the second half of spring, when I got a bit bored with the game and dropped it for a while. It was definitely a fun experience, although the game is far from perfect and it has got several flaws; recently I have picked it up again, though I think I won't be playing it as often as I used to during my first period playing it. As someone who's got a bit more experience on the game, I agree with most things stated in the video, but there are more things I'd like to add and talk about regarding this game, including stuff that wasn't mentioned in the video. (Warning: long comment ahead.) So, as you affirmed in the video, the game feels a bit confusing at first. I think the way the tutorial itself is handled is at least partly the problem. When you think about it, at this part of the game the things you learn aren't particularly hard: you're simply introduced to items (shovel, net, fishing rod etc.) and magic linguistics symbols, and you're also told that shops are open only at certain times (obviously). Even in Animal Crossing games you learn this stuff at the beginning of the game, since the game explains to you how to use items and things like that. However, in Magician's Quest, you need to take EIGHT classes to simply learn that your staff can turn into tools, shops close at night, magic linguistics exists and that you need to listen to music to memorize it. The tutorial feels slow and like an "information dump" (especially if you are playing for the first time) because it feels like a lot of information is being told to you at once even if in reality there isn't that much to learn and it can all be explained in a simpler and quicker way. That being said, after the tutorial you're pretty much left free to play the game by learning spells, interacting with your classmates and customizing your dorm room or the conservatory on top of the dorm, which can be customized by other players as well. The thing is, the customization aspect of the game is pretty much limited to these two rooms; the only thing you can do to customize your town is just plant some flowers; you can't plant or cut down trees and even if you plant berries the shrubs growing from them will always wither. Most of the furniture is nothing too special and decorating the rooms can be annoying since you can't move the furniture you place and you need to touch a place to put it there, making it impossible to place a piece of furniture right in front of your character because your character's body covers the place you're supposed to touch (and you can't even change the camera angle). And, of course, since you live in a dorm room and not in your own house, your living space can't be expanded unlike in Animal Crossing, but at least you begin the game with a decently sized room instead of starting off with a very tiny house or with a tent. The layout of the town (which is always the same for everyone) could also be much better. The unfortunate locations of the shops and the tower in which the fish and insect catalogs are makes earning money off of fish and insects a pain since you always have to go to the catalogs first, which give you sellable goods in exchange of them, and then to the shop, which is pretty much in the opposite part of the map, to sell these goods. That put together with the small inventory space is sure to make you bored quickly of going back and forth. Nonetheless, the strenghts of the game are probably the interaction with the students and the magic aspect. The interaction with the NPCs are in my opinion undoubtely better than the one in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which focuses too much on personalization and is lacking of any fleshed out interaction with the villagers, whose dialogue is most of the time banal and repetitive. Granted, your classmates in Magician's Quest can be a bit repetitive as well at times, but the dialogue is overall better than that of more recent Animal Crossing games and is more or less at the level of the dialogue in AC Gamecube and Wild World, in which the writers certainly poured a lot more effort and dedication than in the later entries of the series. In Magician's Quest there were at the time more NPC personalities than in AC games; some of these are inspired to those that were present in AC games, for example the peppy personality or the binge eater one, but they were changed a bit and reinterpreted (for example, while the lazy personality in AC probably inspired the binge eater one, MQ characters with the binge eater personality are still quite different since they talk about food a lot more frequently and if you befriend them they will admit to you that they eat to find comfort and to release stress). There are also original personalities such as Stingy or Mischevious. What's exciting is that the students can also interact with each other by talking with each other (a lot more frequently than in AC) and chanting mischevious spells on each other the same way they do that to the player, making the NPCs more dynamic. The characters greeting the player as they pass by and gossiping with each other with you being able to overhear what they say are some of the aspects that give substance to the NPCs (which AC villagers have recently been lacking), and the way that gossip in particular works in the game also contributes to that: in fact, gossip affects NPCs the same way it affects the player and reflects what actually happens. For instance, if an NPC remains for a certain period of time in the classroom (or in any other place) without interacting with others, other NPCs will gossip about it and will react depending on their personality (stingy students will say tha said student might feel lonely and that they could offer their friendship "in exchange of a fee", shy students will say that they felt too embarassed to join that student etc.), similiarly if an NPC interacts with someone else, other NPCs will gossip about the kind of friendship the two students might have (e.g. "X is so friendly to Y it almost seems fake". Again, the player is also affected by gossip, so "X" or "Y" can even be replaced with the player's name). Interaction with NPCs still has some flaws, though. The option to "play together" with NPCs only consists in them following you (and they are also pretty slow and you have to stop to wait for them); also, when talking to NPCs they sometimes daydream about having a boyfriend/girlfriend even after you get enganged with them (probably an overlook from the developers). Finally, one thing I really liked about this game is the music, although all of it except for the main theme is not original (for example the music playing while you create your character is "Of strange lands and people" by Robert Schumann), but I guess one can appreciate the developers' choices for the tracks and the composers' ability to play them so they fit the game. These tracks were however edited in the European version of the game, allegedly to avoid copyright issues, but I still prefer the way they are in the US version. Overall, Magican's Quest is certainly not perfect, far from it, and it has got flaws that could have been avoided, but it is still a nice and cute game, even if it clearly was heavily inspired by Animal Crossing, and angry people in the comments saying otherwise won't change that. That influence is tangible when you look at the tools, which are the same as AC, or even at characters like Shade, who is pretty much the same as Wisp from AC because he gets rid of all weeds in exchange of collectibles, or at that one cat character who is basically MQ's Redd, and at mechanics like the berries market that is reminiscent of the turnip market in AC. There are still some features that are done a lot better than in AC, especially the NPC interaction, which I think the AC series could learn from.

You can date your most favorite character and become their GF/BF when you talk to them enough and they would fall in love to you. The second thing is you can cast spells. This style of writing, were you jokingly belittle a game your reviewing, because it can be compared to a game of similar nature that did better in sales, is a cheap tactic. It feels more like a video that aims to be click bait, then legitimate. It's a life sim which is not the first, neither was animal crossing. It's Like comparing any monster battle rpg to pokemon as a knock off. It does a disservice to the creators and genre as a whole. Not to mention the growth of the video game market. I have a love-hate relationship with this game. I bought i back in 2009, because precisely, I heard it was like Animal Crossing, but with something extra. I started it back then, excited to play tons of it...but for some reason, I ended up abandoning it. Fast forward 10 YEARS, to 2019. I figured I'd give it another go, considering the new Animal Crossing was still some time away. I started on January 1st, intent in playing every single day for a full year, as I estimated it was the time you needed to complete every single mystery. I got back into the game, learning every single facet and aspect of the gameplay, investing countless hours in catching fish and insects, grinding at the daily tasks MQMT presented you with. With the help of some online guides, I trudged through the cases in the game, solving a large amount of them. In the end, I gotta say...there's a lot to this game, but it's also incredibly frustrating and obtuse as well. Also, the economy is broken. By September, I was tired of my hard work not paying enough dividends, so I resorted to cheating and hacking some money into my in-game account and maxing it out. Hear this: I ran out of those funds in just a couple days. That's how awful and scarce the currency is. It's just...impossible to keep making a reliable profit. Trust me. Do not play this. Don't go through the same stuff I did.

Okay, so... 2:37 Yes, you CAN move furniture around. The buttons were inverted, so you'd hold the button you use to pick them up from AC, and move them around like you would otherwise. And while the camera might've not been able to be manipulated, there wasn't really much reason TO move it around, since it was literally just a boxed-in room anyways. 3:46 That's a pretty low number of hours to pour into the game to expect to learn everything. That's even going against Animal Crossing's usual thing. You aren't supposed to know everything within a single day, but to gradually learn more over a longer period of time. 4:07 *Cough* Harvest Moon did it first. Not Animal Crossing. *Cough* Seems you coughed up the wrong game there, dude. *Cough* 5:15 Symbols. Literal PICTURES. Don't focus on the words. Focus on the SYMBOLS. It's not alphabetized? Remember, this is a MAGIC School. It's almost like you're deciphering an ancient runic language to manipulate the elements around you, which should conveniently be organized from "A-Z" in the English Alphabet, and not simply translated from some other language, right? (Sarcasm.) Personally, I think the symbols are clear enough that, with time and practice, these gripes can be easily ignored. That said, I WILL credit that it would've been convenient to add a custom hotbar or shortcut certain spell combinations, but remember that this is their FIRST game in the series. 5:48 The Sims did custom clothing designs 1 year before Animal Forest, which was the game Animal Crossing USED to be. Yet again, you're not raising ANY valid points here by comparing the two. 6:30 Okay, that's the last straw. I'm not wasting any more of my time watching this pointless video. You've clearly got way too much bias on Animal Crossing to even give a proper review of this game. You seem to refuse the idea that, maybe, Animal Crossing isn't 100% original, either, and that if anything gets remotely CLOSE to Animal Crossing, you're going to just hate it for being a "Copycat", and treating it like that, even if true, is a BAD thing. I mean, it's not like Gaia Online, Habbo Hotel, SocioTown, Second Life, Stardew Valley, Dinkum, Hokko Life, and hell, The freakin' SIMS did something similar to Animal Crossing, right? ... Oh, wait...
