@@MagicinNursingTeam So, I have many criticisms of this book, which I will discuss below. But every failing this book has pales in comparison to my major take-away, which is this protocol is easy to follow AND it WORKS!!! I am (maybe was) a self-diagnosed pre-diabetic. I have no medical training, but my research suggests that your fasting blood sugar should be below 100 mg/dL, and less than 140 mg/dL after eating. Before this diet protocol, when I eat whatever I wanted, sometimes my fasting blood sugar would be over 200 mg/dL. for mmore information visit here tinyurl.com/halkyremedy >

truly excellent explanation, still this question thou- if the ph is 7.36 (acidic side?) pco2= 46 and hco3 = 35, why is it considered alkalosis? i understand why it is metabolic, and fully compensated but can't understand why alkalosis? when ph is in acidic side?plz guide.
@MagicinNursingTeam6 жыл бұрын
ps4a hello. Actually, this is alkalosis. 7.36 is acidic side. So acidosis. Pc02 is high(34-45) so respiratory acidosis. And body compensated by increasing bicarb in the body (22-26). And since compensation was enough to bring pH back to normal, it is a full compensation. Let us know if you have more questions. Thank you :)
@ps4a6 жыл бұрын
thats what i thought.. but this link here ( www.registerednursern.com/abg-arterial-blood-gas-practice-quizzes-with-tic-tac-toe-method/ ) the last question and the online abg calculator says its metabolic alkalosis.. consider them debunked? ( www.manuelsweb.com/abg.htm )
@MagicinNursingTeam6 жыл бұрын
ps4a I wouldn’t say debunked or anything. The links that you posted are wonderful resources as well. What we teach in our method does not only rely on numbers themselves. We associate it with concepts behind the problem. In the example that you provided, we interpret it as acidosis because the pH 7.36 is more acidic compared to a pH of 7.45. So in theory, the less pH you have, the more acidic your body is. So if we change the pH to 7.34 with the same pc02 in your example which is 46 and same hc03 which is 35. It would definitely still be Acidosis right? Since our pH is lower than normal. The elevation of Hc03, even thought super elevated, would not indicate whether the body is acidosis or alkalosis. This is because we read the acidity or alkalinity of the body based in our pH reading. But again, like we mentioned in our video, there are different ways to read a normal abg. In real life, we are fortunate enough to be presented with more information about the patient such us chief complaints, symptoms, diagnoses, medications, and many other things. I hope this helps. And thank you for your question.
@ps4a6 жыл бұрын
i get ur point. its not my example it was the 14th question of the first link, when i dint understand the answer i tried looking at other explanations, and stumbled on that online abg calculator where u input the values and the result comes out just like calculator. so when i punched in those values posted in that question i got the same answer. since u provided the best explanation i wanted to ask you,(could not find anyone else who responded) but u r telling me exactly what i thought- its acidosis, but the others -those links, say its alkalosis, i just hope i don't get this kind of question in exam. u r right that in real life we are given more info about patient's cond. hence not worried, just worried to get thru this exam for now lol.

THE EASIEST WAY TO REMEMBER IF A NORMAL PH IS ACIDIC OR ALKALOSIS WITH ABNORMAL CO2 AND HC03 IS BY 7.40. IF PH IS BELOW 7.40 ITS ACIDIC, IF PH IS ABOVE 7.40 ITS ALKALINE. EASIER TO REMEMBER. GREAT VIDEO, VERY WELL EXPLAINED!
