Sadly, the movie does not mention why Lupin knows how to use the Marauders Map, and why he is sure it never lies. He and his friends, Harry's father, Sirius, and Peter Pettegrew, were those who invented it. All of them, together with Harry's father were animagus. Their names are entitled on the map: Moony: prof. Lupin, because he turned into a werewolf, Wormtail: Peter Pettigrew, he turned into a rat, Padfoot: Sirius Black, turned into a black dog, and Prongs is James Potter, turned into a stag.

Yep, the movie condenses and omits a lot of things. Like the reason why the 3 learned to be illegal animaguses in the first place as kids was to protect Remus Lupin and keep him company during the "day of the month". Animagus are also not that common and extremely diffcult to learn even for proficient adult wizards, so it shows they Harry's dad and his friends really cared for one another.

I’m sure someone mentioned this but: With Sirius and James transforming into such large animals, a dog and stag respectively, they were able to keep a werewolf in check. Lupin also says in the book that he was….’calmer’ when he was with them, even when transformed. Finally it seems, least the books say so, that a werewolf is only a danger to ‘humans.’ So with the other three members of the marauders transformed, they didn’t have to worry about being bitten by Lupin. Each month they’d end up wondering the grounds of Hogwarts, etc. That’s what contributed to them making the map.

One of the things that was left out of the movie but was in The Prisoner of Azkaban novel is that James Potter (Harry's father), Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew were the original inventors of The Marauders Map. That is the reason why Professor Lupin knew how to use it. When the original Marauders were students in Hogwarts they were all best friends. When James, Sirius and Peter found out that Remus is a werewolf they decided to become Animagus (wizards that can willfully magically turn into an animal just like Professor McGonagall can turn into a cat) because werewolves don't attack other animals and Remus' friends didn't want him to be alone during the full moon period. This is why the map reveals the weird names when you use the "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" spell. They were the nicknames of the Marauders. Mooney is Remus Lupin because he is a werewolf. Padfoot is Sirius Black because his animagus form is a dog. Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew because his animagus form is a rat. And James Potter is Prongs because his animagus form is a stag. Dumbledore knew about Remus' condition and how Remus became a werewolf when he was only a very small child. So he had the Womping Willow tree planted and had a tunnel put in so that Remus can hide in the Shrieking Shack during the full moon cycle. 🌜🌕🌛🐺🐶🦌🐀🪄🌳🏚

Don’t know if you noticed, but Dumbledore is played by a different actor starting with this movie; the actor from the first two movies, Richard Harris, died after filming the second movie so he was replaced by Michael Gambon for the remaining six movies. Michael Gambon actually just died this past year, three months ago 😢 and over twelve years after the release of the very last movie.

This is the first reaction of this movie in which I have seen someone correctly guess Lupins secret by seeing his Boggart for the first time. in the books it's only described as a white glowing orb so it's intentionally hidden to readers as being the moon. Aunt Marge got what was coming to her and then some! It's no wonder Harry decided to get away from them after that. Looking back at it, Sirius always looked after Harry, even at the start of the movie, when he ran away from home, he was the dog Harry saw right before the Night Bus found him. It was already beyond sus, how the Minister of Magic treated him, the not so subtle warning. Mister Weasley just confirmed to Harry what he already knew deep down, Sirius was after him. The introduction of the Dementors - the effect they have on Harry in particular - talk about nightmare fuel! Professor Lupin more than proved himself in that scene alone. Professor Trelawney, while looking completely goofy, really managed to scare the crap out of everyone with her premonition. Buckbeak! What a beautiful creature and Hagrid's style of teaching is just 😂let's make everything up as we go! Malfoy talking shit to Buckbeak - the very definition of fuck around and find out Magy, well done, figured out Lupin's identity right after the scene with the moon was shown! Lupin reminiscing about Harry's parents was such a beautiful scene, it shows not just how good they were even as adolescents but also just what good friends they were. Not like Quiditch was dangerous as a game during optimal weather conditions but hey, why not play it during a freakin thunderstorm, with the cute Dementors suckin up everyone who goes too high up in the air - Hogwarts really wants to thin the number of their students 😂 Draco gets funnier and funnier with each movie, whenever he insults someone you just start laughing, he's way too extra, just like Snape and his drama queen behaviour and way of talking. It's heartbreaking, seeing how much it hurt Hagrid when they sentenced Buckbeak to death. Honestly it's a miracle Hermione didn't slap Trelawney after that comment, the lady screams "scam" when she's on her normal zany behaviour but when she decides to make clever comments, it's just insulting. Hermione punching Draco is probably one of the most satisfying moments in the Harry Potter series, dude's been asking for it since he was first introduced in the first movie. The plot twist really got you, huh? You didn't expect the "Spectre" to attack Ron and drag him away, instead of Harry. After that scene, it's just a series of crazy plot twists, one after the other. Lupin turns out to be friends with Sirius, Ron's rat is a bitch ass rat in person too, turning out to be the real traitor who caused James' and Lilly's deaths, the entire time travelling sequence and subsequent saving of both Sirius and Buckbeak. Sirius asking Harry to come live with him once his name is cleared is such a heartwarming moment. After that, Harry realizing he saved himself with the Patronus - you know the memory he thought of to conjure such a potent Patronus must've been incredibly happy. Good catch Magy, noticing how the first thing Snape did was to put himself between the trio and Lupin, protecting them from the werewolf's attack. All in all, things ended in a beautiful way this movie, the only real unfortunate moments being Peter escaping and Professor Lupin resigning because of his...wolfish outburst. Thank you for the beautiful reaction, it was a pleasure watchin you enjoy this movie so much ❤

Info: At the end of the movie when Lupin is packing up to leave, he states his reason for resigning before end of the year is that he doesn't want trouble for Dumbledore. Someone let out "the secret of his condition" (that he's a werewolf) & he knows that many parents will object to him teaching their kids. They won't care what kind of person he really is, he could infect a student &/or teach them sympathy for werewolves. Rowling deliberately wrote about werewolves & how it's caused by a transmissable disease as a comparison to how in the real world people were treating those with HIV.

I know I'm late but I just want to add this piece of information from the books since it doesn't come up in the movies there's a very good reason why Harry has to live with his aunt and uncle it all has to do with his mother's protection spell as long as he lives with a member of his mother's side of the family he can't be harmed by Voldemort in their house

JK Rowling didn't like what he did - I think he added too many ideas of his own visually or made it too dark - so he wasn't invited back. Slytherin is not a bad side. In this film you see that there may not be very good people in Gryffindor. Yes, most evil wizards graduated from Slytherin, but this does not mean that only bad and evil wizards study in Slytherin. Slytherin is always about cunning, ambition and pride. But you must admit, these are not always bad qualities; we often use these qualities in our lives. After all, in order to achieve some goals we need our ambitions, and even cunning somewhere. Other than the delays and changes made by the director resulting in all the future films being delayed- hence the mismatch of the actors ages, Cuaron was basically in a constant war with Rowling behind the scenes as he was forever making changes to the approved script that undermined not only plot elements of Azkaban itself, but also the books Rowling was still writing. Pretty much every criticism that can be levelled on every later movie can be traced back to precedents set by this one. For instance, as others have noted, there are lots of important details and scenes from the books which were dropped by Cuaron 'for the run time', despite him dwelling on unimportant matters and adding things that weren't in the novel at all (eg those shrunken heads are illegal dark magic). Other than the makers of the Marauders map being missed out, leading to many thinking that it failing to show Peter constantly in the Griffindor dorm is a weird loophole, there is the simple reason for Sirius escaping from Azkaban at the time he did- which is skipped entirely. This would lead to many more such decisions creeping in to the 4th film, and an ever expanding avalanche of these by the last- where the accumulation of these effectively formed a feedback loop where an 8th book would have to be massively out of step with either the other novels, or the film series. Hence the switch to prequels instead. Also, whilst many liked the new darker aesthetic Cuaron introduced, it doesn't actually fit with the way Hogwarts works in the novels. Things like the moving staircases are all enchanted for self repair, plus the professors and elves constantly keep things 'as good as new'. This Imagery of rickety wooden bridges that gets introduced might look interesting, but nothing like that should be possible in an environment where we have witnessed Dumbledore change the decor of an entire hall in under a second with the simple swish of a wand. Lets face it, if a school was being run by someone who could fix the whole place in a day, yet looked like parts of it hadn't been cleaned in a century, that person would have been fired long ago- and with good cause!

The scarves look Hufflepuff which is my house of choice. The sorting stuff always puts me in Gryffindor because I have authority issues, but Hufflepuff is about inclusion, so it is where I request to be.
