The memory of Tom Riddle doesnt have an update. But Ginny spent the beginning of the school year writing in the diary (writing to Tom.) And since she had a crush on Harry, it is clear she wrote about him and that Tom in the diary asked her more about him.
@LA_HAАй бұрын
Question: Isn't Tom Riddle, as a horcrux, a piece of Voldemort's soul? I mean, horcruxes are made by putting a piece of your soul in it in order to revive yourself should something happen to you, right? That's how Voldemort keeps coming back. If so, all of the memories/soul pieces would automatically update to know what Voldemort knows, or maybe up to the point of being torn off. Everything else could've been learned as you said -- wait for someone to write in the book and to give him information on where/when he is and how he can use the person to try to get free. It's been forever since I read the book so I'm not sure
@jehenderАй бұрын
@@LA_HA I think that’s a fair question. And while the other horcruxes aren’t the same level sentient as the diary, I believe it’s the second option. That part of Tom’s soul has been ripped from his person and no longer is connected to him. (Think about how Voldemort didn’t even notice the pieces of his soul being destroyed.) So yeah, the horcrux knows as much as Tom did when it was created. And the Diary was made into a horcrux when he was 16 and as such, would know nothing of Harry…until Ginny starts writing in it.
@LA_HAАй бұрын
@@jehender Oh, okay. I see. I actually thought Voldemort Did know when pieces of his soul were being destroyed, but couldn't do anything about it. Thank you for the information. I appreciate it

at the end when Lucius goes to throw the spell at Harry, the actor Jason Isaacs was asked "did you start yelling the killing curse on purpose?" and he went "no that wasnt scripted- i was reading the books at the time and it was the first spell i remembered- there was no greater intention or story connection"
@jocelyngipson7882Ай бұрын
24:56 for quidditch, typically, the Capture of the snitch is worth 150 points. Most teams at that age never score enough goals to win if they don’t capture the snitch. So typical, you catch it, you win. However, for a team that’s able to stop the other team from scoring and able to have a prolific offense, capture of the snitch ends the game but wouldn’t secure a win.

RIP Maggie Smith ❤ Fun facts: Before Christian Coulson was cast as Tom Riddle, Eddie Redmayne, who later played Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts films (a prequel/spin-off to Harry Potter), auditioned for the role. Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) originally auditioned for Lockhart. Shirley Henderson who plays Moaning Myrtle was 36 in this film. It is a common joke that she was played by Daniel Radcliffe in a wig, due to the actors' similar looks, heights (at the time) and the fact that both were wearing large round glasses. There are quite a few improvised/unscipted lines/actions in this film. Mr. Weasley's “What, exactly, is the function of a rubber duck?" was improvised by Mark Williams. Tom Felton improvised Draco's "I didn't know you could read" to Harry disguised as Goyle because he forgot his line. Furthermore, Lucius' and Harry's exchange just before Lucius leaves Dumbledore's office was completely improvised by the actors on the spot. Jason Isaacs said "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day" and Daniel Radcliffe immediately replied "Don't worry, I will be". Also, him kicking Dobby down wasn't in the script either, and since Dobby was CGI-ed in later, Jason Isaacs basically kicked the air. Hermione was supposed to hug both Harry and Ron but Emma Watson was so embarassed to hug both boys in front of everyone so she ended up shaking Rupert's hand. And Crabbe wasn't supposed to stand up and clap for Hagrid. The actor, Jamie Waylett, just got caught up in the moment and Tom Felton also improvised Draco pulling him down. Lucius starts to use the Killing Curse "Avada Kedavra" on Harry after leaving Dumbledore's office. To actually try to kill a child in the middle of a school makes him seem quite dumb. But Jason Isaacs explained that the book didn't mention any specific spell and this was the only one he could remember. Also, unrelated, but Jason is the voice of the basilisk, which is the voice Harry hears. It's almost universally agreed upon that the films did Ron dirty. One of the most notable ways was how most of his best lines were given to Hermione. One notable example of this is when Hermione is the one to explain what "Mudblood" means instead of Ron. In the book, Ron is also the one who points out how ridiculous the whole idea of wizarding blood supremacy is (instead of Hagrid). Spiders fear the basilisk because it kills using eye contact, and since spiders have eight eyes (or more) all around their head and can't close them they are pretty vulnerable. Also, wearing glasses does not protect a person from dying by the basilisk's eyes, because glasses still allow one's line of vision to connect directly and clearly with the snake's eyes, unlike looking in a mirror or through a camera. In the book it's revealed that Filch is actually a Squib, which is a non-magical person who is born with at least one magical parent (kind of the opposite of a Muggleborn). Muggles can't see certain magic, like them running into the platform, due to an Illusion Charm and a Muggle-Repelling Charm. They just see a regular wall. Foreign language translations had to change Tom Marvolo Riddle's name, so that an appropriate anagram could be formed. In Icelandic (my language) his name is "Trevor Délgome" which aligns with "Ég er Voldemort". A sweet behind the scenes story is that during production, Emma Watson frequently brought her pet hamster Millie on set but, unfortunately, Millie passed away shortly after filming began. The set department created a specially-made hamster coffin for her. There is an extended version of the film which involves deleted scenes like Lucius and Draco in Burgin & Burkes in Knockturn Alley (Jason Isaacs accidentally injured Tom Felton with the cane), the students taking a quiz about Lockhart, Harry overhearing some students in the library debating whether he is the Heir of Slytherin, Justin introducing himself to Harry in the Dueling Club, Crabbe & Goyle waking up and running into Harry & Ron, and more. You can watch it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4e9mWyprd-hebMsi=PcBwoE4tstVLCizT. This channel has a playlist/video for deleted scenes from all the films. And, though not really important plot-wise, there is a post-credit scene. It shows a book that Lockhart has written titled "Who Am I?".

Lore: Voldemort, known before as Tom Marvolo Riddle, was born of a witch mother and a muggle dad. The mom was abused by her father and son so her magic didn’t show up at 11. The family kept it as a maid until her father (Voldemort’s grandfather) was sent to Azkaban for attacking a muggle. After the abuse was over Merope Gaunt (the mother) was able to develop magic and fell in love with her neighbor Marvolo Riddle. She used a magic potion to charm him and when she got pregnant she decided to stop giving him the potion thinking Tom was already in love for real. Obviously he was not. She was left alone, about to give birth. She went to an orphanage where she gave birth, where they could’ve saved her with magic but she refused and died. Because Voldemort was conceived by a love potion he’s not able to feel love.

The Dursleys don't hate Harry, they just resent being saddled with him. What they really hate is the weirdness. They have that British middle-class attitude that values conformity and is embarrassed by standing out, especially if it's something weird. Vernon does say he intended to put a stop to all this 'magic' nonsense. No, the resent having responsibility for Harry, but they hate it when he brings that wizardy crap back from Hogwarts; that's why they try to stop him going back to boarding school every year. JK Rowling did impressive research on the history of magical plants and beasts, which you will see throughout the franchise. She drew from documentation, history, and legend of our real world. Some of the information was inconsistent, but Rowling wove bits of it into a logical coherence. The mandrake is a real botanical, the roots formed naturally into humanoid shape. Mandrake was used by medieval and Renaissance herbalists for a number of conditions: infertility in both genders, erectile dysfunction, and poisoning, amongst other applications. It was said to let out a single scream when uprooted that would kill any who heard it. The theory for harvesting it was tying a starved dog to the plant and toss food beyond the dog's reach; the dog would go for the food, pulling up the mandrake, and the scream would kill the dog. The operation completed, it was then safe to collect the mandrake roots. "Mudblood" is the Wizarding World equivalent of the 'N-word', a slur not fit for decent people to repeat. It refers to muggleborns, those with magical ability but no known magical ancestry, like Hermione and Harry's mother Lily. It is speculated that muggleborns occur from inheriting genes passed down by undeclared magical ancestry and/or spontaneous mutation. Magic is not something you can learn or develop, and it's not technically an 'ability' at all. The main difference between muggles and wizards/witches is the genetically-conferred ability to CHANNEL magic. Magic is an independent, naturally-occurring vital energy. It is a force so powerful that it strengthens and improves the conduit that channels it. That means it makes the wizard/witch more physically robust. The person is stronger, has better reflexes, and is more resistant to injury than muggles. Should an injury take place, healing is faster and there is no scarring. The individual is resistant to all muggle pathogens (but not the fewer pathogens that target wizards/witches). It also affects longevity; muggles' average lifespan is about 75 years, but wizards/witches average about 150 years. That being said, injuries from magic-based causes can lead to scarring, long healing, loss of body parts or function, and even death. If you see a character in this franchise with scars or physical damage, it means they have encountered harmful magic. You see this already with Harry's scar, the result of a serious curse. Wands are said to be a focusing device for a wizard's/witch's will and intent. Essentially, a wand also channels magical energy, under the witch's/wizard's will and focus. The materials used to make a wand impart influence on the force and characteristic of the magic flowing through it. Being a conduit (like a pipe or wire) of magical energy, a damaged wand affects and afflicts the flow of energy passing through it. When Ron crashes into the Whomping Willow, he breaks his wand, which weakens the spells cast through it but also sometimes rebounds the spell back onto the one casting the spell. If you break a pipe, it leaks, and the main flow loses power. A bent pipe makes the flow erratic, push some water in the opposite direction. And wands are even harder to repair than pipes. Cellotape, like Ron tried to use to try to hold his wand straight, doesn't really help. Wands have a certain 'sentience', recognizing those they feel will work best with them; this is the basis for the saying "The wand chooses the wizard". They bond with their owner, their master, and they are loyal to that master, preferring to crack or break rather than be used to harm their master. A wand can be loaned, but it won't work as well for the one loaned to as a wand that has chosen them. (Ron's wand situation began with a hand-me-down wand that never chose him.) Wands change loyalty when their master is disarmed. Along with the quality of 'will' and 'intent' and 'power' is 'pride', and wands abandon masters who demonstrate they are losers. When a wand's master is disarmed, the wand changes loyalty to the winner of the conflict. If you disarm someone of their wand, you can use the wand to attack the former master on that wand. If you only STEAL another's wand, the old loyalty remains and the wand will refuse to harm its true master; it also will resist the thief using it for any magic. The monster in the Chamber of Sssssecretssss is a basilisk, a snake so toxic that its stare can turn you to stone and its reflected stare can petrify you. Spiders, with their many eyes, are terrified of basilisks. Rooster crows can kill a basilisk, so the person who opened the Chamber also killed all the roosters on Hogwarts grounds and used the blood to write messages on the walls. The memory of Tom Riddle was a lifeforce imprinted into his diary. Lucius Malfoy came into possession of the diary and put it in Ginny Weasley's cauldron in Diagon Alley. She was contacted in the pages of the diary by Tom Riddle, who took control of her and had her open the Chamber, kill the roosters, and write the messages. Then he began to absorb her lifeforce to bring him into physical form, but Harry stopped the process and destroyed Tom Riddle while still a memory. Quidditch scores come from only two things: the leather Quaffle getting 10 points (goal) for going through one of the 3 goal rings at each end of the pitch (field), or getting 150 points by catching the Golden Snitch, which also ends the game. The 2 iron Bludgers don't ring up points; they just harass and confuse the other payers. The Seekers (one per team) not only need to catch the Snitch, but also time the catch so the game ends with the points advantage. If your team has 20 points when you catch the Snitch (20+150=170 points) but the opposing team has 180 points or more, your catching the Snitch ends the game but loses the match. That means trying to block the Snitch from the opposing team's Seeker until the points advantage shifts to your team. Hermione did not intend to explode the iron Bludger attacking Harry; she used "Finite incantatem" to terminate pre-existing spell effects (end incantation). The explosion was a unique response to ending the spell cast on the Bludger. Hagrid's wand was broken and he was expelled. The wand pieces were hidden inside his umbrella and he uses it to do magic sometimes, though there would be repercussions if the Ministry of Magic found out (it's why when he came to collect Harry for school he asks Harry not to tell on him). It's Dumbledore who got Hagrid a position at the school; likely Dumbledore believed Hagrid had nothing to do with the Chamber or Myrtle's death, that Hagrid was done an injustice.
