Look up the Tucson gem show, Circa 2018 2019. They showcased an amethyst geode over 10 feet tall with room for someone to stand in.

Our quartz along Lake Superior is all well rounded, mostly white with some rose. So was this once a small cave that collapsed and was filled in with fines?

Love the color. I do lots of hiking, I'm just not that lucky. Every where I go I'm always eyes down, flipping rocks. Hell it looks like we even use the same barber and same brand of razors. Do you do any of the rock shows? Would like to see some of these up close. Very cool find, keep at it.

Paul just knowing the general geology of Southern California where they said they were digging these, the crystals could be anywhere from 250 to 65 million years old. That is the age range of formation of the granite rocks they were digging the quartz vein in. Also, the granite around the crystals had weathered deeply to red clay and soil. They have been around for quite some time. I'd have to know exactly which mountains they were digging to give you a more exact age, though by the plants I can kinda guess. And not all kinds of granite have that much gas to make the pocket where the crystals grew. That's another clue to locale. Obviously, the miners are not telling us exactly where the pocket is. Miners have been shot in the back for less!! Also, depending who administers the land, like BLM, digging it may not have been entirely "kosher", if ya know what I mean. :)) BLM rule for recreational rockhounding is 25 pounds per person. LOL!! I think just one of those BIG clusters he pried out weighed lots more than 25 pounds. Sure are so beautiful though!! :)) Honestly... I'd have dug them too! :))
