Nice review! I have hadthe same model for several months now. It does not disappoint. I love the twist throttle for getting started on a dead stop. Especially great starting on uphills or road crossings. And this beast eats the hills!

Due to you and a few other reviewers, I ordered my first ebike a couple of days ago. It is a Juiced RCS step thru in white with the 1K motor. At 73, and after riding and racing motorcycles for 59 years, I`m moving on to this new venture. It will allow me to quietly travel around in the mornings before my wife gets up, and take me to small lakes to fish without any carrying or walking with my fishing gear. I already had a Saddlemen tail pack, so that should work perfectly on the rack for daily needs. I`m really excited for this bike to arrive and get started with it. Thanks Russ, I watch your channel regularly and appreciate the help.

My wife and I have Lectric brand bikes for budget reasons, I followed on KZbin how to change the freewheel, ours are 48v batteries that charge up to 52v, with a 20amp controller. Anyways, she's lighter than me but now I only use the same amount of charge she uses. And we got some hills here.

Can't believe that slight grade is call a "hill." I'm old and used to cranking a mountain up and down through 7,000 - 10,000 mtn roads with 2,000 feet of ascent and descent. If an eBike can't do your stuff easily then I either have to spend $8K, or more, or just not get an eBike. I wanted to say you do a very good job with your presentations. Thank you!

Cool 👍. With all of the ads and promotions I've seen popping up on YT, it seems to me that Magicycle is positioning themselves to overtake Rad in popularity and sales. There's another channel (kayak fishing) I subscribe to and watch regulary, and he bought a Magicycle to rig for fishing (beach use), and they sent him another bike (step-thru as I recall) recenty to review. I'm thinking Rad might need to step up their game. You still going to save up for a folding model to transport along with your wife's for riding in other locales?

I own this bike. Very happy with it. Plenty of power. Very stable ride. Would consider 3" wheels/tires for street use as the performance would be almost the same and it would have less friction drag, and not looked at askance like it is a motorcycle on a bike path. The 28" outside diameter of the 26" wheels gives extra safety to roll over objects on the path of the bike without causing a crash.

Russ, I have that model and absolutely love it. I've had it for just over a month now and have 260 miles on mine. I am really enjoying the power it delivers. The company stands behind their product. Mine came with a damaged battery (the charge port was pushed in during shipment). They shipped one out and it arrived 3 days later. We've had some really high winds this spring. I rode this bike during 50+ mph winds and it shows to be stable and steady. Yesterday I took it out for a 20 mile ride during 45 mph winds. I would never do this on my conventional bikes. One of the hills in Peoria where I live offers a 170 foot elevation climb. The bike just powers up that hill. Thank you for your reviews. Appreciate your attention to detail!
@RussIsRight

Thanks! Glad your new ebike is working out for you! I would agree that the company seems very response based on my own communications with them. Wow... you do have some wind! And they say Chicago is windy! :). Well, actually, that reference to wind for Chicago was made in the 1800's to comment on the politicians who had a lot of "hot air". Still, most folks think it means Chicago has a lot of wind (which it does, though!)
@larryware1
@larryware1 2 жыл бұрын
@@RussIsRight - Normally Peoria isn't all that windy. We're just experiencing a windy spring. Yes, Chicago has that reputation for being "The Windy City." I used to listen to WLS "The Rock of Chicago" back in the 1970s. I'm using my Magicycle to offset the high cost of gas by riding it to work (16 mile round trip). I have it in my office today and love arriving to work sweat-free, and arriving home the same. Hope you're doing better from your Charlie Horse. Those can be terrible. I used to get those at the beginning of bike season before I was in good shape. They can be very painful.

@@larryware1 I just subscribed to your channel! Speaking of WLS (and WCFL), one of the jocks on there back in the day was Steve King - who went on to do a radio show with WGN talk radio with his wife Jonnie Putman. I know them both from my friend Doyle Dykes who is a fingerstyle guitarist extraordinaire! Anyway, Steve was a disc jockey when I was a kid and I recall hearing him on the radio when I was young. Little did I know that we would end up as friends from a mutual friend! Doyle is world famous as well for his guitar playing! :)

@@RussIsRight - How totally fun for you! My listening days involved Larry Lujack from his early WLS and later WCFL days, John Records Landecker from WLS, and Fred Winston (all from the early to mid 1970s). My wife and I both worked in broadcasting so we love the field and for me the local history is one of my hobbies. Hope worked in radio and I worked for the local public television station. I'm good friends with many of the former DJs from Peoria's WIRL 1290 and have in my possession all of their old reel-to-reel studio tapes. I occasionally upload some to my channel. It's such a fun hobby! My wife and I did a review of the Magicycle on our other channel "Under the Median" where we took the saving on gas angle. Thanks for the subscription. Russ, I mentioned before that you'd probably get a free bike for your video consideration!! Here it is!! This looks just like my Himiway step through Cruiser!! Even the packaging is the same!! Bet it's a spinoff from the same compony!! Different headlight, a couple less Ah battery, but higher voltage, 52 v 48. a better colored screen!! Even suspension controls works the same way!! Those fast start up high powers eat up battery faster too!! It's performance sound quite like the Himi, too!! Top peddle assist will give you 27-28 mph, straight and level, maybe more, because your lighter than me!! But guess their not setting them up like that anymore!! Still, it's available to you!! That 750 watts is a real, full 750!! Really great seeing you enjoy your bike!! Can see, Your a believer!!! Interesting, you like the assist 5 levels!! Now that I'm used to my 9 levels, I might change back to 5 and not have so much unnecessary shifting!! Good luck with new bike!! Even if it isn't a Himiway clone, it's certainly in that class!!

Thanks! Yes, the two ebikes seem very similar; however, they are separate companies. Magicycle manufactures the bike themselves and it is very impressive. I'm happy with the bike overall. Very surprised at how a true 750 watt motor that peaks out well over 900 watts (not sure how much over) can just climb the hills so effortlessly compared to my Rad Rover 5. I did not hard pedal at all and it was going over those hills! A follow-up review will be out within about 2 weeks. Stay tuned!

You've provided a really good review. I looked really hard at the Magicycle. It was in my top 3 for consideration. I like many features they offer and the price is competitive for what you get. However, I watched several other reviews that convinced me to pass on the company, not the product. There were a couple of ethical considerations raised by reviewers that turned me off (website plagiarism; delivering unlocked bikes for review), so I went with a competitive product with many of the same features, but with hydraulic brakes standard and better off-road capabilities for the same price. I truly hope they are making things right and can overcome their initial mistakes in marketing and perception. Ride on.
@RussIsRight

Well, I reviewed just the bike, not the company. But I'd have to say, it appears things have been straightened out as far as I can tell. The only issue like I mentioned in the review is that the pedal assist levels could be slightly lowered but it's a very easy fix. I would suggest that part be done first by purchasers unless they are used to a very quick responding ebike. Still, there are many that would prefer that level of responsiveness... so I suppose it's totally up to the end user to decide how to set up the bike. Thanks for your comments!

Liked and a new sub!! Thanks for this review, Russ. Wife and I looking at getting a pair but she is concerned about her height at 5'3" being an issue with a heavy bike. This Magicycle has an extra bar on the step-thru making the ingress/egress look a little tight compared to the Rover6. What are your thoughts on this? Is she too short? Would the smaller space of the step through be an issue for her? I wish there was a store near us to go an see one in person... Taking your word on it here, Russ...we really enjoyed your running commentary...how many miles was this review ride? It sure seemed like a long way...and what was the volts at the end?
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! To answer your wife's question of whether the mid-step version of the Magicycle being difficult for her to mount and dismount, based on her height, it might be a little too tall for her to easily do it. Magicycle says 5'2" to 6'2" riders, but my wife is 5'4" and she has a bit of difficulty with the bike's step thru abilities. So I'd say she might prefer a bike that has a bit more clearance. Assuming you are taller and have at longer inseam, the Magicycle mid-step might be ok for you. I'm 5'10" and I have no real issues with getting on and off the bike. But I tend to swing my leg over just as if it were a step-over version (like my Rad Rover 5). I'm just used to doing it this way. But what I do like is that mid-step makes it way more easy when I hop off the bike if I stopped at a stop light. There's plenty of clearance for guys there. Now, I do have a bit of a gut as you might know being 250+ lbs (mostly in the abdomen area) and that part hits the top as I lean forward when I hop off. But it's not bad. Just make sure I hop off and slightly to the right (weak left leg and knee from the knee replacement has me hopping mostly to the right side when I dismount). So, between the Rad Rover 6+ and the Magicycle... I'd recommend the Magicycle Cruiser Step Thru for you and probably the Rad Rover 6+ (in white to match the Magicycle) for your wife. Between the two, you are going to be able to climb those hills a lot better than she will since the Magicycle has a more stronger motor, but I think the step thru height is better for her on the Rover. Now you might be tempted to get two Rover's... that's up to you. But if it were me buying it for me and my wife, I'd do the Magicycle for me and the Rover 6+ step thru for her. That's just my two cents. Be sure to use my link to get $50 off the Rover and use my link for Magicycle BEFORE you put in the $100 discount code of RUSS100 to save $100. That link I provide is what gives me credit for your purchase. If you go directly to Magicycle's site and use the code, I'm not sure I get the credit for it that way. Let me know what you end up deciding to do. Enjoy! Oh, one more thing... the Rad Rover 6+ is just as large as the Magicycle. It's just that the step thru makes it easier to mount and dismount. But if you put the two bikes next to each other, they are pretty much similar in overall size. It's big. Many women have mentioned before that they didn't think these bikes were going to be so large until they see them. Something to consider.

I have no idea! I never measured it. But I will tell you, pretty much all the bikes struggle getting up this hill... from non-electric bikes to ebikes. I've seen people huffing an puffing trying to ride up it on a non-electric bike :) But of all my ebikes so far, the Magicycle Cruiser takes that hill better than any of the other bikes. @RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Magicycle Cruiser should be able to do it. Look for the torque rating. This one is 86 nm. The Cruiser Pro does 96nm as does the new Magicycle Oscelot Pro. Those will likely be even better for hills. But the new Oscelot won't be out until later in Early September. The Cruiser Pro says mid-July. As for helmets, the new Xnito helmet is the way to go. It's got a rating up to 28 mph whereas other helmets usually only go to 15 mph. I just released the review of the helmet today. Check it out. Also, if you buy any of these, use the link in my description of the videos (that's how I get credit for your purchase) and then use the discount codes. Using the codes directly on the Magicycle site won't give me credit for your purchase. Thanks! Here's today's helmet video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWnWg314lpWnmZo

@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
Hard to answer that since I don't have a Himiway Cruiser. I would think it should be able to handle it though, but I can't guarantee it. My Rad was able to handle it. I think it all depends on the ability of the controller on the Himiway. Citizen Cycle tried swapping out the batteries of his Magicycle and his Himiway. They seemed to fit. Not sure if he did a test ride or not though. Check his channel and see if you can find any videos about it.

Great review. Could you comment on the “step through” form - whether or not it is advantageous especially for seniors. Does the lack of a top bar cause any flex in the frame? Is it easy to mount/dismount? Perhaps you could demonstrate this in a future video. I’m 74 and I worry about balance issues if I have to lean a heavy bike while I balance on one leg and swing the other over. Perhaps that’s just me, but I’d appreciate your covering this point at some stage 😊

Hi Russ, it looked as though you had a USB cord hooked up to your display. Is that to maintain a charge on your phone? Also could you see your phone very well while riding?
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I had a USB cable attached to the display to charge my phone. The cable is not included with the bike however. I was able to see the phone in the case. The plastic of the cover allows you to touch the icons on the phone to activate it too, so it is touch capable. That case is included with the bike. I will likely change to a handle bar extender and a regular cellphone holder as that is what I am most used to. But for someone who does not want the additional cost of buying those accessories the phone case they include for free is very capable.

Hi Russ - Love your videos! Question - Folding bikes vs. Magicycle - Is it at all possible to get the Magicycle in the back of an SUV? I'd like to travel to places to ride, but I won't do a bike rack on my vehicle. What's your thought? Thanks!
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
It would be really hard to put the Magicycle Cruiser in the back of an SUV. It's big and it is heavy. Wait until JULY. The new Magicycle folding bike will be coming out then... it's called the Jaguarundi. While it has a 600 watt motor instead of a 750 watt motor, that smaller motor means it will likely use up as much wattage, thus improving your range. And, it has hydraulic brakes and a torque that is 70 nm (as opposed to the 86 nm torque of the cruiser). Smaller 20" x 4" wheels though. At least, check it out. You can still use the discount link in the description of the video here and also the RUSS100 code if you decide to pre-order one. shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1788113&u=3238576&m=111475&urllink=&afftrack=

Russ, you may have covered this in a previous video, but what is the relation between the pedal assist level and the throttle? I'm a little confused - do you need to move the throttle for the electric motor kick in? If you have the power assist set at a certain level, is that automatic or do you need to move the throttle? Great review of this bike by the way. I want one!
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. The pedal assist (7 levels on the Magicycle, unless you change it), means that once you start pedaling the bike, the motor will kick in and help move you. How fast you want the motor to help is determined in the various levels. The throttle is a device at your right hand and will move the bike if you twist it. The more you twist it, the faster the bike will go. It's kind of like a motorcycle in this regard. So, you have a choice, you can either pedal and the motor will start working and/or you can throttle. I often do both at the same time! For instance, I might be at pedal assist level 3 and be pedaling and then if I come to a slight incline, I could just twist the throttle while I am pedaling just to get a little more assist from the motor. When I let go of the throttle, I'm already still pedaling, so I'm back to the speed I was before I started to throttle. The nice part with the Magicycle is that allows for full amount of assist with the throttle at any time regardless of what the pedal assist is set for in level. This is nice because you don't have to worry that if you wanted a lot of help with the throttle, you don't need to be in pedal assist level 7. Not all bikes do it this way. Anyway, if you do end up ordering a Magicycle, don't forget to use the code: RUSS100 to save $100! Let me know if you get one! :)
@Jamesg33
@Jamesg33 2 жыл бұрын
@@RussIsRight Thank you for the great explanation. It sounds like the perfect setup to me - I like the twist throttle! I checked with the company today and a spare battery is $540, which is good to know. I also like that the bike can go 28mph. Does it have a speedometer? How about an odometer? Also, do you have any thoughts/recommendations on rear view mirrors. Thanks.
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it includes a speedometer function in its display. It also has a very flexible odometer too because it shows the total mileage of the bike, a trip meter (which stays and does not reset unless you want to reset it - many bikes automatically reset the trip meter when the bike is turned off), the total time you had the bike on, the average speed that you rode on this trip, and your maximum speed that was ridden. Not all bike displays offer this much! And of course, it is color too. Percentage or actual voltage on the battery is shown as well as a 24 hour clock function! If you decide to buy this bike, be sure to click on the link I put in the description of the video (just added that) and to put in the code: RUSS100 to get $100 off the bike. I get a small commission too and that helps support the channel. I appreciate that! Oh, last thing, Magicycle does sell rearview mirrors too. I had them send me a set but I only put on the left side mirror. There's really not enough space on the handlebar to put a right side mirror (even though they do give you both sides) since the throttle and also the gear shifter is already mounted on the right side. I'll have that shown in the next official video that I do for Magicycle.

@@RussIsRight Hi Russ, I just want to chime in on your comment where you said that the Magicycle will allow you to supplement the pedal assist with the throttle…. This isn’t exclusive to the Magicycle, all class 2 bikes (pedal assist and throttle to 20 MPH) do the same thing. I watch all of your videos, and am a subscriber, but don’t want anyone to think that this is a feature exclusive to Magicycle. Thanks!
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is for all Ebikes, but remember that some Ebikes only throttle as fast as the PAS setting on the bike. For instance in PAS 1, your throttle can only go as fast as PAS 1 will allow. Move to PAS 2 and your throttle will go faster and so on. On the Magicycle, at PAS 1, you can go as fast as 28 mph on the throttle if you have unlocked the bike to do 28 mph. It is different for various brands.

I think most of the Lithium Ion batteries last longer if you don't do a 100% charge, but many riders prefer 100% to get a bit more range out of the batteries when they ride longer distances. I know that many companies also recommend storage of batteries for long times (like during the Winter months if you don't ride) to be around the 75% range. And, most batteries when shipped to you are not at 100% either. But, I have not read whether Magicycle recommends a 85% charge or not.

Did you say the brakes are mechanical? It looks like they are advertising "hydraulic" on the website. Be great if they put 4-piston hydraulics on these things but that would push the price up. The website also doesn't tell you (most do not) what the actual components series is within a brand. For example, Shimano what? We see it is the "Altus" series which is a mid low end set. These manufacturers need to tone down the power with the initial set up at deliver as many senior buy these, and my fire dept friends (I'm search and rescue) tell me half of the seniors who buy these e-Bikes are going to the hospital in the first 3-5 weeks of ownership.
