This update is about the geology, people and the uncertain future of the fishing village Grindavík. It's hard to do this large story justice in just a few minutes but first and foremost an overview that I'm trying to do as respectfully as I can for the people involved.
Live coverage in English.

Thank you so much for the update. Absolutely loved seeing the footage of the town - it is obvious that Grindavik is a beautiful town that is well-loved by its residents. I get the feeling that its people are strong, full of courage and determined to not allow this situation to break them. I hope it helps in some small way to know the rest of the world feels for and with all those affected. Sending big hugs from Down Under … 🥰❤️❤️❤️

Completely off topic but I love that you have Michel Granger's painting Le Trac better known as the album cover of Jean-Michel Jarre's Équinoxe as your profile image. I love that album and it's probably my favourite JMJ album. :)

@@James-pc1ku Yes, both Oxygène and Équinoxe have artwork by Michel Granger as album covers. :) I also heard Jarre from a young age but more indirectly, as I heard covers of some of his tracks on the family Commodore 128. Some games use his music as background music. :)

Your channel is by far the most stable and i feel a better understanding of the situation. I definitely ignore the media, who are usually a day or two behind and focus on the absolute worse case scenarios. As a geologist, i love this dynamic country with visual, accessible examples of volcanic activity. I've followed you since i went in April, when i visited the Hveradalir geothermal area. Soon after, you noted via your thermal drone that the area was heating and the road was being affected. Keep up the amazing work!

Thank you for the update. Eruption or not, Grindavik is severely damaged already. With the expected long period of volcanic activity in the peninsula, I think your idea of using moveable houses might be an excellent solution to the housing problem.
@lesliehyde
@lesliehyde 6 ай бұрын
I was thinking quite the same thing like two videos ago of how if this town was founded by residents of a previously destroyed town by another eruption, why didn't the residents opt to use mobile housing that could be easily connected/disconnected as needed in order to not have such high amounts of monetary AND sentimental losses. Plus, if each mobile housing is set up properly, then the housings utilities (to a limited amount) could still be used during a relocation of the mobile housing (solar panels used for certain exterior outside walls or a few panels for each wall along with a few more on the roof to cover for the minimum electrical needs, water jugs for limited water usage needs and a septic system that can store septic waste during use when being relocated but easily be connected for continual drainage similar to septic tank set ups that are used at least by a large number of homes in North America or be able to be connected to a public sewer/water treatment system).

But I look for your videos and your commentary on the situation because I was listening to you before all this started. I visited Iceland in October of this year. Your country is truly remarkable in so many ways. I loved my visit. And have many friends and family members that have visited and intend to visit. As soon as I heard about the magma in this area I began praying heavily for your country and this area, and the people in the fishing village of Grindavik. I know they’re displaced now, but I’m praying they will be able to go back to their homes.

It is good to see how lovely Grindavik was before so that we can understand the full magnitude of the loss that has now happened to all of the people who live there. It is hopeful to hear of things that are being done to help the people of Grindavik as they wait to see what the future holds. As much as I want to visit Iceland. I think they need to prioritise accommodation for the locals of Grindavik than for tourists. I live in a popular tourist hotshot in the UK where locals are second priority to tourism. Grindavik residents are homeless right now, they ARE the priority in my opinion. I hope I see something being done for THEM soon, rather than safeguarding the tourism industry.

Thanks a lot for your wise way to present the situation. As far as I can see, I'm sure that you Islanders will get through this time of change. You strike me as a very strong, modern and realistic people. Thanks a lot for giving the world such an example of dignity, humility and strength. No Vulcano can take these values from you ! Keep it up like this!

Great information and visual coverage today, thank you! :) . A lot you said makes sense. They should plan to move things around and incorporate even smaller homes. Yes. Good luck to those affected by this.

I had the pleasure to visit Iceland in 2022 - I loved the country and started following you after I returned. I appreciate your well presented footage - I am wishing you, your family, all people of Iceland to be safe. I admire the spirit of the icelandic people, already thinking and planning possible solutions. Thank you for your updates. Love and Greeting from the US

Given the history of past magma intrusions/earthquakes and current trends, I think it's reasonable to assume there will be an eruption within the next year or two somewhere in this volcanic system, but I think the odds that it will happen within the next weeks or months are dropping fast.

Thank you for your clear and honest report from one of my favorite places on earth with the most friendly people. I hope this disaster will pass you by, but Mother Earth is restless and all you can do is to plan ahead, which you are doing, and take care of each other, also being done. Kind regards from Arkansas, USA.

Thank you for the update, and the very scenic tour of Grindavik...must be very difficult for the residents w/ so much uncertainty...The portable/modular homes idea sounds good; there's quite the growing community of "tiny house"-dwellers here in the States...Hoping for all the best, for you and all the folks in Iceland!
