Papendicular. Because in equator there is no coriolis force as a result there will be no deflection. So wind blow perpendicular to iso bar in equator. But in higher atmosphere in the absent of frictional force where pressure is low wind blow parrel to isobar and also pressure gradient force is balanced by coriolis force. Then this wind is known as geostrophic wind. 43:21

Doubt : Coming to the law of deflection as it is happening due to Coriolis force, it is deflecting right wards but you drawn left wards at 28:06 (once compare with other source images) and my doubt is at north hemisphere it is deflecting right wards but how about deflection at temperate zone and polar zone and why ?
@MagnetBrainsEducation
@MagnetBrainsEducation Жыл бұрын
Thanks for raising your doubt! You are absolutely right that the Coriolis force deflects objects to the right in the Northern Hemisphere. However, in the Southern Hemisphere, the Coriolis force deflects objects to the left. This is because the Earth rotates from west to east. So, objects in the Northern Hemisphere are actually deflecting to the left relative to the ground, but because the ground is also moving to the left, it appears to us that the object is deflecting to the right. I hope this makes sense!

Hello Sir, i am daily visitors here on this channel and i appreciate ur hardwork and the way u teach. One querry : around 21:35 on slide you mentioned that Deflection will be more with respect to velocity of wind Deflection will be more with more corilois force. Both seems contrasting because velocity is more on equator but coriolis force is zero. Than how can the more deflection can happen with this logic on pole and equator both. Pls solve this querry sir

This a little conceptual See.. you can understand like this coriolis force is like an agent of rotation force At the equator the rotational force is maximum that is complementary to coriolis force thus wind blows parallel to the isobar But at pole rotational motion is minimal so we give credit to coriolis force for deflection and at equator the rotational motion is given the credit

Thank you for your question! You are correct that isobars are generally drawn as parallel lines on a weather map. However, in this particular instance, the isobars are shown as curved lines because the wind is flowing around a low pressure system.

Thank you for your comment! You are correct that the Coriolis force is perpendicular to the pressure gradient force. However, the Coriolis force only affects moving objects, so it does not affect the wind. The wind is affected by the pressure gradient force, which is why it blows along the isobars.

I think u a bit more confused.. The wind blows parallel to the pressure gradient not isobar. The coriolis force acts perpendicular to the wind thus the wind gets deflected from its path When the pressure gradient force = coriolis force at the equator than the wind blows parallel to isobar

bro don't confuse by hand's direction. let me explain you, at the equator, winds blows perpendicular to the isobars due to lack of coriolis force and that is why there are no cyclones near equator because there is no rotation of winds at the equator.

Pressure gradient force is working that's why winds blow from high pressure to low pressure ..

Haan yahi doubt muje bhi tha ..but maina khud smja ..ki jb coriolis force hi nahi hogi ..toh wind toh seedhi hi chalegi na ..vo deflect nahi hogi ..isliye vo perpendicular chalegi equator mai ..sir ne ye cheez galat padhaa dee hai

I don't know properly but I think there is zero pressure at Equator and that's why wind blows to the parallel ....in 2nd line ( winds blows in perpendicular ) but when they blow from upper regions to the equator and there is zero pressure and winds blow straight (parallel ) I just gave my own opinion don't follow it without research 🙏

Wind blows perpendicular (90° angle) to isobars at equator .....or ....... Wind blow parallel to isobars at equator ???
@MagnetBrainsEducation
@MagnetBrainsEducation Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! That's correct - wind blows perpendicular to isobars at the equator, and parallel to isobars elsewhere. We hope our educational videos are helping you learn more about the atmosphere and related topics!

Sir. Kite is good example. Some time kite flying vertical towards sky. Means it's convection current or high to low pressure wind.

@MagnetBrainsEducation

Thank you for your comment! Yes, wind will indeed flow parallel to isobars because it gets deflected by the pressure gradient force. We hope our video was helpful in understanding this concept. Please reach out to us if you need more help!
