A beautifully simple tie. Do you ever use a pink bead for the head, as in the magneto stone? It seems that would add a bit of weight and still look pretty.

You could definitely use a pink bead and it would work fine.

Hey Devin! Had a question after watching Modern Nymphing and Modern Nymphing Elevated. How do you bring in fish without risking breaking the rod? (Netting and Stripping In) Do you focus on angle? I'm worried about breaking my rod while bring in fish. Regards

Ryan, Most people who break rods while landing fish try to net them with too much line out so the rod folds back on itself while netting. It takes some practice but refining the amount of line you have out during the landing process will avoid putting your rod at an angle where you risk breaking it. Sometimes a few inches in or out will make a big difference and it will change depending on the size of fish you are fighting.

@@tacticalflyfisher3817 appreciate the quick response. So rod angle isnt as important? Also around how much of the leader do you have out? I'm running your 18 foot leader or so and wondering how much should he in the guides for netting.

@@ryanmiller3967 rod angle is important but the length of the leader you have out determines what angle your rod is at when your fish is approaching the net. I can't really specify the length of leader that you should have out because it depends on the length of your rod, the action of the rod, the size of the fish, and the current it is in etc. It's just something that takes practice. What I would recommend is going back to our videos and taking notes on the specifics of how our rods look and where they are positioned when Lance and I land fish. Then try and emulate those patterns when you're landing trout.

Do you find any missed strikes due to your hook hanging down on the Dacron in soft water? Cheers Don

I've heard of that happening for some people Don but I've had very reliable hookups on this fly with the backing trailer.
