You guys chose which log we are milling up in this video! Thank you for all the comments and mostly thank you for picking the one we wanted to mill the most. It didn't disappoint! These are some of our favorite videos to make, so also thank you for the encouragement to get back to the sawmill. What kind of tree would you like to see next?!

Big shoutout to iFixit for providing those repair shop tool kits for our local kids makerspace and highschool shop class. Super proud to work with a company that have important values at the core of their business instead of just being concerned with profitability. We will be donating a Laser engraver to the local makerspace as well to keep the chain of giving going. We greatly appreciate the support y'all😊✌

2 suggestions from George at Middlefield Custom. When cutting conifers use used cooking oil. And Carbide blades are the cat's meow.

Hi, you need to get that wood through a kiln to kill off any bugs still in the wood. I watch a channel called “out of the woods” the reason I put this comment in is that he built his own kiln, and I was surprised how cheap it was to run. I do not know if he is selling the plan, but he does turn the heat up at the end to kill off any bugs.

To tag you could use the zip code, month and year the tree was harvested. If you need to take it further you could use days.

We love your videos and also no ifixit sponsors you guys. Getting the word out about self repair is important. Me being disabled and on fixed income makes me fix my own things. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always fixed my own things but just a little harder and slower. A kit like this would definitely help me

To level a log, try this. Get a good piece of timber, lay between rails, use a cheap scissor jack under the log to level. I use a 2in thick x 8in thick piece of oak.

It’s rare to meet someone who can look at a board and come up with the actual size of the width I have people who asked me that all the time how big something is and I can give them a measurement within a half an inch without a tape measure it shows that you do a lot of measuring, so you know the size of things without even a measuring tape. Keep up the good work I can tell that you are very particular about the products that you produce. I’m sure that you will be very successful. Thanks for the videos.

An idea for your potential inventory/stock numbering system. Species code(whatever you come up with), Year cutdown, year initially sawed/processed, zip code of tree location (maybe with +4), board number.... Love the videos and the growth by trying new things. Keep up the great work!

The “Matt Cremona splash” test. LOL. The bugs you found, were they in the tree before it was taken down? Or after it was down? You have cut some trees already and have the stacked and snickered. Any issues with bugs for therm? Termites, etc? Can you spray them? I have no idea on this area. Great video.
@Woodbrew
@Woodbrew 8 ай бұрын
Definitely after it was cut. The log has been down for over a year. Bugs don't like drying de barked wood the same as they like whole logs. They usually start exiting as soon as you cut and stack them.

I don't know much about cutting down trees but would it not be a good idea to brand the edge of each cut with the date. This way you would be able to know when it was cut. Maybe this would damage it or something???
@Woodbrew
@Woodbrew 8 ай бұрын
You could do it that way, but it would be very time consuming.

I find the whole process of milling down a tree and revealing some of its history very interesting. Have you considered using what3words co-ordinates to record the approximate location of each tree?

Will you treat the wood now for the bugs? What do you use to do the treatment?
@Woodbrew
@Woodbrew 8 ай бұрын
Shouldn't have to now that it's been cut. Bugs don't like sawn and drying lumber that same as logs laying around. They go for the bark and sap wood first.
