Im 1950 OTB and i don't play professionally or anything, just do it as a hobby if i have free time, my point was that grandmasters would resign if they saw an obvious checkmate like this. Even OTB this is very obvious, NOBODY expected Magnus to miss this, not even himself which is why he noticed it like 2 seconds after he played the move and got so disappointed in himself.

So it's not M3, but M5, and there are 2 lines starting with the same queen sac: 1... Qxg5+ 2. Kh1 Ng3+ 3. Kg1 Ne4+ 4. fxg5 Bxh2+ 5. Kh1 Ng3# 1... Qxg5+ 2. Qg4 Qxg4+ 3. Kh1 Ng3+ 4. hxg3 Qh3+ 5. Kg1 Qh2# Tania may say that Magnus missed M3 Simon Williams was earlier heard saying "It's a three, four move checkmate isn't it? How many moves (...)?" indicating they don't see it on screen how many moves it actually takes. Also the title of this clip has changed, earlier it said Magnus missed mate in three.

It is not a mate in 3, but a mate in 5. After Qxg5 and 2. Kh1 black has to find Ng3+. Than after 3. Kg1 Black would have to find Ne4+. 4. fxg5 Bxh2+ 5. Kh1 Ng3#. Or 4. Kg1 Qg2# Calculating all possible defends of White makes it a bit harder.

It's not so hard to see that the only sensible defender of g2 is the white bishop, while black has only one piece to neutralize that bishop's line. So, had Magnus seen the first idea with mate in 3, he would definitely have seen its continuation too.

I find strange and funny that in the hypothesis of Carlsen putting his queen under attack, the very first move commenters consider is capturing his Queen. Of course it is poisoned, ergo commenters should have realized immediately the alternative (which takes more than 3 moves)

Ng3, if pawn takes, mate in 2 with Qh6 into Qh2 If king walks into discovery (Kg1) after Ng3, the discovered check with Ne4 blocks the white bishop from defending g2, forcing white to take queen with the pawn, and then the black dark squared bishop will hit again on h1 and Ng3 will deliver checkmate afterwards Thanks stockfish

Nepo is the best overall as of 2023Apr30 in an equal combination of -classical chess, -rapid chess, -classical 9LX & -rapid 9LX Being 2nd in -2023 classical WCC (only by rapid) -2022 rapid WFRCC, -2021 classical & rapid WCCs -2019 classical WFRCC score And 14th in 2022 rapid WCC (ahead of Hikaru, Wesley So, Liren) That's right: Nepo AND NOT MAGNUS is the top 2 classical 9LX player behind Wesley So! - This is because Nepo's score is higher than Magnus'. Not just for a weighted average of the classical & rapid portions but even for both the classical & rapid portions individually. Nepo lost only 3x to Wesley So while Magnus lost 4x. - Magnus & Nepo played the same opponents - Wesley So & Fabi. Both beat Fabi. Both lost to Wesley So. Nepo was just unfortunate to face Wesley So 1st. Imagine if the pairings were reversed or they played a double knockout. Now let's take a look at the top1 of each. -2023 classical WCC - Liren never even played 9LX ? Magnus din t play 9XL , ofc nepo and wesley so going in final and become first and second 9XL from 2023. according to your statistics I am at the same level as Carlsen in 9XL in 2023. stop smoking and you have to be more objective, Carlsen is stronger than Nepo in every format, this doesn't mean he can't lose against Nepo, because Nepo is a very strong player among the best in the world, but less strong than Carlsen

Magnus didn't play 2021,2022&2023 but played 2020. But anyway that's all rapid. What counts is classical as in minimum 60min. Eg 45+15=60 in the 2019 WFRCC but not 25+5+2.5=32.5 in the 2022 WFRCC. Thus Wesley So is the classical WFRCC while Hikaru is the rapid WFRCC. In the 2019 WFRCC semi-finals&finals Wesley So is top 1, Fabi is top 4 and then there's ambiguity between Nepo & Magnus. Magnus is top 2 only by lots. Magnus & Nepo played the same 2 opponents. Each lost to Wesley So (in both the classical & rapid portions). Each beat Fabi (again in both portions). Count up the score Nepo actually did better than Magnus. Eg Both Nepo & Magnus didn't beat Wesley So in either the classical or rapid portions. (No one has beaten Wesley So in a classical 9LX game out of 14 games. Wesley So is the only player to never lose a classical 9LX game...out of the 9 players who played classical 9LX in FIDE but never mind the sample size.) But Magnus lost 3x classical games in a row to Wesley So out of 4 while Nepo lost only 2x classical games out of 4. Anyway of course Magnus is 'stronger' than Nepo & Wesley So as in 'better'. But that's largely possibly thanks to openings. When openings are removed, players true talent is revealed : Magnus drops to top 3 (in either classical or rapid). Chess = combination of theory & talent 9LX = pure talent Turns out Magnus Carlsen is a TALENTLESS PATZER who crumbles without opening prep. PATHETIC. The above is considering only that Magnus lost to Wesley So. Now imagine how much more pathetic Magnus is given Magnus isn't even top 2 in classical 9LX. Lol!!!!!
