To have memorised this trap after so many potential variations implies Magnus must have memorised an almost infinite amount of opening variations.

it would be alot! but he does have an incredible memory!

Im pretty new to chess, but is this a case of "im gonna go for the trick, knowing that if Magnus doesnt fall for it, I just lose"? Or GMs don't think like that?
@squareonechess6939Ай бұрын
I'm guessing he didn't realize it was losing. Maybe if you were in time trouble, a tricky move would be worth a try against Magnus. Magnus actually played a move he knew was losing against Bill Gates, but he knew Bill Gates was probably a weak player.

It's a 12 move game that you blathered on about for nearly 15 minutes.
@squareonechess6939Ай бұрын
I have a tendency to be long winded sometimes. Its something that I have been working on. When it comes to chess videos, I often get carried away with alternative variations which I then have to prune down for the sake of brevity. Did you know that before editing sometimes my videos are over 30 minutes? Its difficult choosing which alternative variations to eliminate because they are all important to understanding why the players made the moves that they did! I want the audience to have the best understanding of the game possible, but I do realize that for a lot of people that is not the goal. They just want to see some chess moves and be entertained. But I don't like saying "this is the best move" without fully explaining why. I mean anyone can put the moves in Stockfish. Sometimes I will try to give a general idea as to why a move is played, but then I fear that the audience will think its a purely positional move when the real reason it works is based on concrete tactics which I have not shown. So this is the challenge I face. Of course anything else besides move explanation that takes up time in my video is meant to be entertaining. If you were not entertained, then I am sorry for that, but I must continue my balancing act between what I think is good content and what the average viewer wants to see.
@grantgre2 ай бұрын
yeah but this is what Bobby Fisher was telling you at if you have a great memory you can become a great chess player you just memorize the openings but you're not being creative you're not thinking and you know if you go down the road and you happen to forget a line on an opening then you're screwed you know so this is what he did not like about chess that your opponent just memorize more stuff than you and you couldn't remember and not only that you couldn't calculate either get the best outcome so yeah this isn't such a great game

You made a 12 move game into a 14 minute video that was too convoluted. Could have kept the original game separate and then gone into analysis. It also helps if you do it like Epic Cheese where he makes the board lighter when showing variations and alternative lines of the same game.

2:40 this is a bad presentation; too hard to tell what the the actual games moves are because you are going off on too many tangents; counterfactuals thrown in; annoying; play this game; not every variation, silly.

I try to keep the variations to a minimum, but you can't really understand the moves that are actually played unless you look at some alternative lines
