Even if Ding doesn’t find his old form in the match I really hope he can just find peace in the chess itself, focus on playing good games and fighting his hardest - and his emotional state will be noticeable in the games too if he doesn’t. It is not useless mathematically nor intuitively. You can compare ratings across each category so you can know relative strengths of each category. Also you can intuitively reason the level of strength in absolute terms especially since he adds explanation and the context to each. Obviously he is talking about elite chess - players who compete at the highest level. So 50 out of 1000 means being average amongst elite players. It is all understood in the context.
@Interspirituality18 күн бұрын
It would have been kinder to just rate Ding (and all other players) at their peak form … it would still preserve the diversity and imbalance of the playing card concept, while just being a kinder choice, overall … Plus, choosing their peak as representative is clearly a more timeless system than just their rating at the very present moment 🤷♂️
