I hate my 2007 Tundra. I have had it for 10 years. It has 140,000 uneventful miles on it. It looks and runs like new. You can't wear the darn things out. The paint doesn't even fade. I guess I am stuck with the same darn truck for life. I'm bored.. UPDATE: 190,000 uneventful miles.

Hi you tube commentors. I own the Tundra in question. So first off the factory horsepower of 381 horse power is measured at the crank. Torque is 401 ft lbs measured at the crank which is why there's a marked difference. I am interested in seeing the dyno numbers if I take it back to the same dyno. I will be doing an exhaust system very soon, so I may dyno it after that. I hope to see over 500 hp to the rear wheels. Keep watching for updates.

Jesse, thanks for clearing up the numbers question. There is quite a difference when torque and horse power is measured at the engine verses the wheels. I wouldn't be surprised by what you say but all the other testers have always got high 6's or very low7's in Tundra's but they wouldn't be testing on a wet road with ice around which means the tires are cold and stiff as a board. Then again they wouldn't redo the test in perfect condition and would have brake torqued the engine and its hard to tell if they did in this test although you can bet they did with the supercharger and probably used 4wd.

I was going to purchase this s/c for my 14' flex 5.7 Tundra, but my local Toyota said they would not install it on flex fuel engines because they are unreliable in comparison to non-flex engines. I just don't see how that's a valid statement. I run 87-89 oct on my truck and never once have I ran e85. If the injectors and fuel pump are bigger to handle the capability of running e85, then what could be making it not as reliable as a non-flex engine, according to my local dealer? Any input? Looking for advise, pardon my ignorance, I feel like I need more torque/hp to tow my 31' rv trailer (8k lbs dry weight). I do not feel comfortable towing it over long distances, I am retired and want to take it out on pleasure/camping trips out here in the vast southwest. Will this supercharger set up be the answer to my towing needs?

That will not help with towing, depending on your setup that year tundra can tow between 4,300 to 10,800 lbs max . Your camper is 8k dry your are pushing the limits. You may want to think about a smaller or lighter camper. The Tundra with the stock v8's have plenty of hp and torque to tow but you may just have two much weight .

I really don't know why people say that tundras get horrible mpg, I have a 17 crewmax and I can maintain 18-19 mpg very easy, my friends suburbans and Chevy trucks, Ford trucks all average about 15-16. I saw a FLT video showing that just tuning the 3.5 ecoboost generates numbers very close to these numbers on the Tundra. That was at sea level vs 3000 ft above mind you. The F150 was a beast at that point. As far as reliability, well I had a 2011 F150 5.0 and drove it about 180,000 km. I changed the oil, put gas in it, did the brakes once and new shocks and tires. I currently have a 2017 Tundra 5.7. The routine maintenance schedule Toyota has is EXPENSIVE! I then put gas in the truck, change the oils, have to be towed 4 times (one time in a severe blizzard, electronics) have a new transmission at 85000 km, still don’t trust the new transmission as it stranded me once (electronics) and had to have the head replaced on the drivers side (they wouldn’t do both). This was all warrantied of course, but with 158000 km on the truck (99,000 miles) I am looking for anything BUT a Toyota. I have the off-road version and have not had to replace the shocks yet. That is a plus,,,,,,,,, hehehe. Sorry guys but Toyota does put the occasional mistake on the road. I bought the dang (f@#&$’g) thing.

I just traded a 2013 F150 5.0 Supercrew 4x4 for my 2019 Tundra TRD Crewmax Limited. I experienced the following with the F150: Wiper control failed at 58k miles. Audio controls on steering wheel failed around 68k. Heat shield started falling off around same time. Lost coolant around 75k, had to replace O-rings. Noticeable thunk on take off; slop in driveshaft splines? Passenger front seat squeaks when you hit a bump, windows squeak going up or down, and last straw was cruise control not maintaining speed. If the Tundra is better made than the F150 it replaces I'll pay for the uptick in cost to own. The Ford is Kodiak Brown and for sale at Bayside Used vehicles in Prince Frederick, MD. Just 94K miles and so many more parts to fail!

MrAristes - it really is the damndest thing. I have a friend that has all Ram. One 1500 4x4 Hemi, one 1500 rwd lowered hemi, and a 3500 diesel. He has over 300,000 km on the 4x4 and nothing other than routine maintenance, the rwd has about 150,000 km and nothing. They are 2014 and 2016. The 3500 is brand new and has had some minor issues. My other friends swears GMC is better than Chevy. I guess they all have issues and it just depends on which one you get. Guess that is why there are so many manufacturers and they all survive. I hope your Tundra treats you really well. I absolutely loved mine until it stranded me the second time. They are still good looking trucks. I was playing with a GMC AT4 1500 pickup. Nice truck with the 6.2 and then I reached the tailgate. I pushed the button on the keyfob and the gate opened and unfolded,,,,,,,,, wellllll...... I heard angels sing and the sky cleared up. @lowrangeoffroad1
@lowrangeoffroad1 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Yes, we are quite sure this is the 5.7V8. Others have asked similar questions. The reason our measurements look low when compared to what Toyota advertises is that they are giving HP and Torque measurements taken form the crankshaft. They say 381 HP and 401 Torque) In order for us to get a true comparison, we'd have to take the engine out and test it on an engine dyno. We don't want to do that for obvious reasons. So our next best option is to measure the HP and Torque at the rear wheels on a chassis dynamo-meter. This is an accurate measurement but will always be less than the engine specs because of power-loss through the drive train. That is why we measured 292 HP and 360 Torque at the wheels. Hope this clears things up. Thanks for watching and commenting.

This stock motor is rated at 381hp crank. Based off that, 292 hp @ the wheels stock is damn near 30% drivetrain loss..... That can't be correct. The torque rating on a stock Tundra is 401ft/lbs, so the 361ft/lbs at the wheels from this dyno equates to 11% drivetrain loss. How do you lose 89hp (381-292) but only 40ft/lbs (401-361)? Either this dyno is off or something else is up.

@@vitarmen1 Its been almost 2 years and I now have over 55000 miles on the truck. It had 7000 miles on it when I installed the supercharger. I have replaced the supercharger coupler twice. Cost about 29.00 for the parts. I did the labor. The supercharger is still performing almost flawlessly. I just started to develop a rattle noise that is not the coupler. I use the truck for work every day, and I pulled a 28' camper across the USA with no problems ever. The truck is great and the supercharger is fine. The power is great. Gas mileage is typical tundra. So far I'm very happy. And the truck still surprises me.

@@vitarmen1 that's a good question. TRD, Magnuson and LowRange never suggested that. I do not think a trans cooler is a bad idea. My question for you is, what are your plans with the vehicle. I have same set up in my Tundra just more power. It's a lowered 1/2 ton with a 3/4 ton heart. Has 4.88 Auburn posi. I have the power to tow heavy (well over 10k), but I can feel the heavy load dictating the drive. Need equalizing hitch, airbags and if you have some left over, a panhard rod or locating links. IF you tow over 10k, a 3/4 diesel is best bet IMO. But then you're driving an extra 1500+ lbs curb weight.

Dallas, This shows Magnuson Dealers/Installers. It looks like there are several options in SLC area and one in St. George. www.magnusonsuperchargers.com/Articles.asp?ID=259 The best warranty would probably be through a Toyota dealership. I know Brent Brown in Orem will do them. Although, Magnuson does has a power train warranty that is free for a 3 Yr. 36,000 mi warranty as long as the is install is done by a ASE Certified Tech at a Shop with a Business License. Jonathan, Toyota (TRD) may not supply them anymore but Magnuson, who made the supercharger for Toyota (TRD), does supply the same supercharger for the flex fuel and the non-flex fuel 5.7L Tundra engines. We understand that some Toyota Dealerships will still install them for you. I just spoke with our local Toyota Dealership and they said they will install a Magnuson Supercharger on a 5.7 non-flex engine at there dealership. The cost was not cheap. They verified what you said, that they do not install the Magnuson Supercharger on the flex fuel model because they do not have the capability to tune the on board computer for the flex fuel engine. The reason we sell the Magnuson kit for the flex fuel model is that the Bully Dog Tuner that comes with the kit is capable of tuning the flex fuel engine computer. Hope this helps.

Hey Jonathan, Thanks for the video link about the 2014 Tundra. It was very informative. One of our purposes in installing a Magnuson Supercharger on a 2017 Tundra 5.7L Flex Fuel engine is let folks know it can be done. Magnuson is the same company that made the supercharges for Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and they are still making them for sale to the public with a 3 yr. 36,000 mile limited power train warranty. If you are interested, we invite you to view this video (link below) that highlights the steps involved with installing this Magnuson supercharger on the 2017 Tundra. Sure, the engine itself makes roughly 381 hp. After the power has been transmitted through the transmission, drive shaft, rear diff and finally spinning the axles and wheels, there is parasitic loss. Even spinning the driveshaft, axles and wheels creates loss.
