DCS World - A-10c "A noobs first flight" So I was having a chat with one of my subscribers, A bloke by the name Cole who was asking about the A-10c module for DCS and if I had it. I told him I didn't, A couple of days later I get a message and I was surprised as hell to find that Cole had a spare key for the module to give to me. So A big shout out to him for that, Thanks mate! So what is today's video? Well its a couple of things, This is a chance to see a first flight of an aircraft I have never used before, Never watched a tutorial on and had only rebound basic flight controls for, Basically an aircraft that I have no idea how to use, But its also a chance to show and talk about some of the options that DCS has available to make things easier on new pilots. DCS is a scary hard simulation when you are playing on full sim with manual controls only and that's where the stories of the difficulty come from, But its only that hard if you want it to be. Hope you enjoy! Find me on, Patreon: www.patreon.com/MagzTV Facebook: facebook.com/MagzGTV Steam: steamcommunity.com/groups/MagzTV Twitter: Magz@MagzGTV

+Corn 'n Tanks That's why I showed it here, So many people don't know its there and yet it is a very important option for accessibility to new DCS pilots. I still recommend everyone learns the manual start up over time but it helps knowing you can learn that at your own pace and are not required to learn it to enjoy your module.
@TitanCalE9 жыл бұрын
+MagzTV No matter how you start out, your game experience will increase a lot after spending some time with the manual. When you suddenly know how to use all the information provided the missions start to get more fun! Good reading and happy flying ^^PS. If you have time, play the user created campaign: "Enemy within "which is kind of pulling you through the different options the module has to offer.. Navigation, weapons, communication. it has it all, even a great storyline ;)

It's worth noting, Magz, that not /everything/ on the A-10 is perfectly modeled. There are some fudges here and there (for example: I don't think CBUs can have their parameters changed in flight), and certain highly classified systems (IFF) are heavily simplified. It is, still, overall, hugely realistic; just 99.9% instead of the full 100. Most (if not all) of the aircraft make omissions or simplifications where necessary or practical, tho. It's almost always super simple stuff, or super obscure subsystems you'll hardly ever use. IFF in general is one area where DCS is pretty gamey; as you can imagine most countries like to keep their IFF codes close to their chest, so from what I understand DCS just sort of fudges it and implements a really simple "is it a badguy or not" system. The P-51 also doesn't have a fully functional radio navigation set (despite having the box itself in the cockpit ;_;), and the MiG-21's usage of the grom is a bit iffy. And then there's the 21's nukes, but those are just for shits and giggles anyway.
@c.quinny9 жыл бұрын
On take-off apply some back pressure on the stick, it gets the weight off the nose wheel and the aircraft will start to skip when it wants to fly. Good video though. Edit: With landings, get a tadd more altitude and fly with your nose pointed at the ground with engines idling, then fly straight and low. The aircraft will land when its ready. Make corrections with the rudder and keep your ailerons neutral so you touch on both wheels. Any aileron movement needs rudder to balance it. There was some adverse effects on your final (the aircraft starts to rock around a bit) that can be corrected with rudder inputs. Love the videos man, keep it up!
@StandingCow29 жыл бұрын
I really hope DCS benefits from the publicity 1.5 has brought, we really could use more pilots and more people with the patience to learn the aircraft, it can be overwhelming at first but these sense of accomplishment beats any other game I have played. There are tons of youtube tutorials out there to help you learn the different A-10C systems as well as subreddits (/r/hoggit) and servers (hoggit server along with teamspeak) where people are more than happy to help you learn. Once you get proficient at some aircraft the next step (at least for me) was the multiplayer servers... 104th has the largest playerbase, they have plenty of objectives for ground pounders and tons of PvP dogfighting. And a more recent addition has been the blueflag event, website here: buddyspike.net/blueflag although they are still working on converting it to 1.5. Glad to see you covering this Magz! Look forward to more DCS videos.

I don't know if you've considered it, but it might not be a bad idea to do some videos on the SU-25T to show off what someone can do without spending any money at all on modules. @MagzGTV9 жыл бұрын
+Pez Pezzer The MiG-15bis is beautiful to fly it really is, And so simple in comparison to the Sabre, The 109 K-4 on the other hand has a steep initial learning curve, It will kill you often when you first start flying it but give it a little time. Once you get past that initial barrier its once of the nicest props to fly in DCS.

Beautiful story from Cold war. US German air forces were going to conduct an air show, Russians deliberately scrambled a ton of aircraft over East Germany forcing the cancellation. In retaliation the Nato forces waited until a huge storm broke over North Germany and scrambled a ton of aircraft. Russians had to scramble. This was at a time when the Russians didn't really have dependable all weather fighters. There was a Russian AF general flying in the storm and Nato listeners heard he was having trouble with his aircraft. Recorded female Russian voice warnings started up, telling the pilot about stalls and problems. Last recorded Pilot message were words to the effect "Shut up you [B word]! I know how to fly a damned plane!" Legend has it the Russian general didn't make it back to base. Cold War kharma.

Matthew Lum Yeah I think the radio activated but didn't tune into ATC, If you don't tune in the radio you wont get a response so looks like that's a step I need to do myself.

Does DCS have a Tutorial for utter noobs? (I've never even played a flight-sim appart from a few SB-Matches in War Thunder, I have no clue of flying ;D ) How hard is it to get into DCS?
@MagzGTV9 жыл бұрын
+Wacky WEASEL Tutorials yes, Some are non interactive videos you watch. Others are fully interactive inside of the 3D cockpit and all are pretty good. Theres also a huge number of videos online to teach you systems. As for how hard it is to get into, Well the Learning curve for DCS is pretty high but can be eased using the features I mention in this video but the biggest thing is the learning curve is also long. It will take a lot of time to learn all you need to learn, you'll spend a lot of time pausing and checking controls, watching youtube videos on systems operation mid flight and a lot of times restarting as you screwed the pooch. But like anything with a higher difficulty the rewards are higher as well, Taking off in the F-15 and completing my first multikill mission without needing to check controls or anything, Just knowing what to press and then bringing the eagle back home to roost still ranks in my top three gaming experiences of my life.

+Wacky WEASEL One friendly piece of advice. Unless you really love the A-10 and are willing to spend a lot of time to research on how to operate its systems, like watching a lot of user tutorials on KZbin etc., I wouldn't recommend the A-10C module to be your starting point in DCS World. Personally I love the A-10C Module, in fact it is my favorite of DCS World, but when I started playing the module it was overwhelming at first. You can try DCS World for free. You only have access to the SU-25 Frogfoot with the free version but it gives you a general idea of what to expect. When you like what you see and want to spend some money on modules I personally would advice to get the Flaming Cliffs 3 module as a start. The module contains the F-15C, A-10A (not the A-10C), Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29A, MiG-29S and Su-25. It's great value for money. Just my two cents.

Why A-10s 30mm rounds don't have any tracers?
@TheHarvHR9 жыл бұрын
+Scarecrow They don't in real life except from practice training rounds, tracers take up part of the shell which could otherwise be used for more devastating uses

Cant believe the Air Force is trying to replace this thing with the F-35
@nosteponsnek86449 жыл бұрын
OnYour KillList I also don't get why they are so steadfast on replacing this thing considering its excellent combat record
@MagzGTV9 жыл бұрын
+OnYour KillList Current testing is showing the F-35 will get just as wrecked and has a smaller payload. NDAA just restored full funding to the A-10 fleet and put in a ruling that prohibits it being retired until a replacement is available. Link (Check Page 11): docs.google.com/viewer?url=media.azpm.org/master/document/2015/9/29/pdf/20150723.pdf So it seems the Military and the NDAA agrees. Basically the A-10 still does the job better than the F-35 which is a useless bag of piss and the military is looking for a 3rd option.
@nosteponsnek86449 жыл бұрын
MagzTV Exactly. IMO theres nothing that we see today which can replace the A-10, because it is the best and as far as I know the only dedicated ground attack/CAS aircraft in the Air Force's arsenal. I also agree that the F-35 is a complete pile of garbage and waste of money
@MagzGTV9 жыл бұрын
OnYour KillList I think your stretching here a bit, I didn't comment on its effectiveness in any theater of war or its survival rating, What I did compare it against was the F-35. Current flight tests are beginning to show that the F-35 is unsuitable in the role that the A-10 now performs. It simply doesn't have the payload or the endurance to remain on station when needed and its stealth is coming into question after several F-35's have been detected by civilian radar during mock combat tests. The NDAA finances 2016 Document I linked shows the military and the NDAA have come to the same conclusion. This isn't a a question as to weather or not the A-10 needs to be replaced or how well it will perform in a modern combat theater, It's a statement of fact that there is simply no current aircraft available that can do what the A-10 does and that includes the F-35, The A-10 is needed and can't be retired until something comes a long that can do its job or better in combat, If that means the Air Force needs to dominate the skies for it to work then that's what they have to do. The F-35 does seem to be finding its own role however, It seems to be proving effective as a tactical strike bomber, A role not unlike the role of the F-117 Nighthawk.
@MagzGTV9 жыл бұрын
OnYour KillList Again you are talking about combat scenarios and theoretical wars with Russia and China, I am talking about actual combat tests that have been performed, the results of those tests and the decisions being made by the US military and the NDAA right now. "There are no combat records of either of these a/c performing any of the situations we are using as examples." But there have been combat tests which show the performance of the aircraft against systems used by modern military's, Operation red flag is a great example but there are of course more. If you want to keep leaning on this argument I'll counter than the US currently has no weapon in its active arsenal that has ever been tested against a full modern military as there has not been a war or direct conflict between the US and any nation of equal power since 1955 (Korea). "There is no such thing as steath. Every A/C has a RCS. However you can show up on the scope as a barn, or you can show up on the scope as a bird." I agree, but clearly what I was talking about was the F-35 showing up as a small single engine aircraft or to be clear showing up exactly as what it is. "The A10 has never proved itself against a competent opponent or modern military." Again I agree, But the F-35 has failed most of its test simulations up to this point including test to check its capability at sustained CAS operations over active combat areas, Tests the A-10 passed and has passed again recently. This is why the NDAA restored the A-10 to full funding and full operational status. What you are arguing is for a proven aircraft that has never been tested against the forces of a major superpower to be replaced with an aircraft that has failed all of its flight tests and proven its self incapable of for filling the role of the aircraft it is replacing. "I'll stand by my statement, the A10 would be REKT in an modern AD sector or modern theatre of war." You can stand by your statement all you want, The US army and Marines corps that have been pushing for the aircraft to be restored, The US Airforce that has been testing the A-10's replacements and the NDAA that funds all three arms of the military and monitors spending all disagree with you.

So i decided to play some dcs myself, and I'm just flying around, thinking everything is good. all of a sudden my left engine catches fire, can't extinguish it. everything goes wrong, in my panic trying to figure out what went wrong while trying to fly at the same time, i end up in the ground. Which is why im demotivated to learn this game.
@MagzGTV9 жыл бұрын
+PixelInTheGame Sim, not a game and that's part of the challenge too it, Why did your engine catch on fire? Did you get shot by an unseen enemy? If so how did you not see him? how did he not show up on radar? If there was no enemy why did your engine just fail? DSC doesn't model random system failures so if there was no enemies what did you miss in your start up or what did you do wrong during the flight? Those are the kinds of questions you should be asking yourself, Once you have an answer (I would expect you started a quick mission and where hit by either AAA or another aircraft without expecting it) How can you prevent that from happening next time? what do you need to learn or do? DCS has a large learning curve, its not so much steep as it is long, You will spend many many hours learning to use your available aircraft. As such its a Sim that will appeal only to those who have patience
