I own a Thar Diesel Manual 4WD, and frankly the new Thar RWD with the smaller 1.5L diesel seems like a much more ideal machine for me as per my current usage. I mostly use it within city limits and may have taken it on rough terrains maybe 1-2 times. However I do not regret buying the 4WD Thar, since I wanted to learn the 4WD driving skills and wanted my own machine for that. I do intend to take it off-road sometime soon. But my concern is, if I do not engage the 4WD system for a long time, will it get damaged in the long run?

Pretty interesting price point. Very difficult as a primary vehicle for most people. The front seats are a major issue, the thigh support is not great at all! That apart it tickets all the right boxes! Would definitely compare it to the Jimmy before making a final decision!

I drove it yesterday. The 1.5 diesel one. Not the most sporty or punchy to drive but does the job effortlessly and I feel it wasn’t made for comfort. It should have had a dead pedal and I did feel it throughout the test drive. It will sell good considering it’s macho X factor plus now it’s attractively priced ❤

Mahindra always prioritises performance over efficiency. And I love it. But I think the engine from XUV 300 TGDI or even the one from the standard one would have been a better petrol engine for the RWD. The price would have substantially less as it comes under a small tax bracket.

Am a bit sceptical about how it will fair as given the price point one will rather want to opt for something like a Hyundai Venue or Kia Sonet which has the features, performance and refinement needed for this sub 4 meter segment. But yes it can be a 2nd fun car for any family for a Goa trip or picnics 😊. I would rather spend the extra 2 lacs and go for the 4x4 version petrol

Mahindra has hit the nerve of the customers. 90% of the Thar buyers never goes to off road. But this RWD is going to hit Thar 4*4 sale badly. I am thinking why 4*4 now when i have same style in much lesser price. even I was planning to buy the Thar and did think a lot about this why do I need 4*4 as i only wanted have for style. anyway tomorrow Suzuki is going to showcase Jimny 5 doors in Auto Expo - lets wait and watch.

This move from Mahindra may be productive and might pay dividends to Mahindra. But, i personally feel that this is sort of downgrading the thar which has all the characteristics of a real SUV. Removing 4×4 from thar,although thar 4×4 still will be on sale, doesn't seem to be a good proposition. If at all, i want to buy a real SUV and not the crossovers,i will definitely prefer a car with 4×4 ......
