Mahindra XUV700 Special SA Launch Event

The all new Mahindra XUV700, the flagship SUV was revealed to a small group of invited media over the weekend as part of the brand slogan of "Active Living and Adventure".
Many adventures were planned for the weekend with us based at the magnificent Mt Grace Resort in the Magliesberg region. In spite of every attempt by the weather gods to derail all the best laid plans, we were treated to some superb cuisine, luxury surroundings and some quality time behind the wheel of the XUV700.
Sadly, a hot-air balloon flight was not possible but the brave among our group were treated to the adrenaline rush of a canopy tour among the big trees in the area.
It may not seem that way, but it was actually about the vehicle! The XUV700 has been such a success since it's recent launch in India that waiting lists already exceed 120 000 units. Luckily Mahindra consider South Africa to be their official 2nd home so they sneaked 12 units over here to enable the local company to have an official launch. In fact, orders will be opening on 15 November with some special treats or bonuses for the first 700 lucky buyers.
The XUV700 enters new territory for the brand. Bigger and bolder than the previous XUV500 model it moves upmarket in every respect. The 3 model range offers either 5 or 7 seats and the top model adds both luxury and safety spec that will amaze. On the top model, the safety suite includes all the usual that you would expect like active cruise control, active braking, lane departure and lane keep assist plus more. A special feature that I really liked is the blind spot system that uses cameras on both sides of the vehicle so that when the indicator is engaged, the view is shown in the centre of the instrument panel.
Powered by a 2L turbo petrol engine that delivers 140kW and 340Nm to the front wheels though a 6 speed torque convertor automatic transmission. The car is smooth and comfortable on the road and gearshifts almost imperceptible in normal driving. We were driving the top spec L model so had additional items like the large sunroof, light coloured leather interior and intelligent LED headlights among the full specification.
Overall, the new XUV700 takes the Mahindra brand further upmarket in the SUV category yet still feels that it retains the toughness and reliability that has always been at the core of the brand.
Quite simply, go and test drive it if you are in the market for a family SUV.

Mahindra you have outdone yourself. Such a leap from XUV500 with all Indian style written all over it, to such an aesthetic marvel beyond the popular Everest and Fortuner. Your interior is that of a modern Mercedes Benz dashboard. While Everest and Fortuner slightly changed if at all, you dramatically overtook the norm, and seemingly, you may dominate the center space. kudos Mahindra!

Seems there is a huge demand and a very long waiting list in India alone. Mahindra needs to increase production quickly. Always a good place to be when bringing out a new vehicle. How affected is Mahindra by the global chip shortage?

It was huge initially, like with all modern automotives.. and more so with car, with all electronics and AI.. Dont know if they are offering ADAS there, which added many more chips.. Chips supply chain has eased out now though.. Issue is production capacity, demand has outsripped supply by HUGE margin,.. South Africa will have local assembly so perhaps delivery delay issue will not be as much in South Africa.. In India hmmm they may have to add new production capacity, given they have now at least 4-5 best seller models..

Yeah ! Mahindra has huge huge demand of scorpio and xuv 700! As a owner of xuv 700 I can say that it's the best 👌 Mahindra has almost 100k bookings of scorpio in just 1 hours of launch 🤣🤣 And their waiting period for xuv 700 and scorpio is 2 years !

Great review. If this car is less than 550k that is alot of car for that price. Loads of space and the interior is charming. If you say the ride is luxurious, its definitely going to be a winner for the new family that just wants a lounge suite of a car. 😁 Petrol consumption will be interesting.

Pure guesswork based on prices in India. Entry level would be about 350K and top level better be under 550K. Of course, assumption is they would launch same entry & top level variants in SA

I always include a representative from the manufacturer on a launch review so that they can highlight the features of the car. Lunch drives are quite short so I don't get the opportunity to fully evaluate the car. Wait for my full test review, I hope it will be soon
