Excellent video. I love this particularly because my 2007 Octavia uses the exact filter models that you test. Just one suggestion: point out the country of manufacture of each filter. I found that the quality differs even within the same brand depending of country of manufacture. You can see it here with Mann filters: The OE Mann filters are produced in Germany, but the aftermarket ones are from Czech and Spain (they used to be also from Germany). I used to buy Mann aftermarket and they looked exactly like the OE, they had that brownish denser filtering material. So I believe it's due to the country of manufacture, not the OE-aftermarket difference.

Thanks for doing some actual testing, unlike many other videos which just show useless unboxing events. These are all acceptable filters. But you know: good engine oil hygiene is a lot like brushing your teeth - using the best tooth paste is a whole lot less important than doing it at regular intervals.

Mann is the same as Mahle , no difference as quality just on price. At least in UK, don't know in other parts. And regarding the Oil i test a few on my audi a6 2.0 2009 and i can say Castrol Edge 5w30 is the best. No topup between exchange. MOBIL 1 took me almost 1L between (6k miles)

Japanparts filter also surprised me. Decent, honest and very low priced. I thought it was low quality material, but it seems to be ok, for what it costs. Not bad.

I see this test as a general indicator for product quality, meaning that it could be possible that at some point in the product line a filter (bigger, smaller, for different engine) would have different characteristics (better or worse from the competitors). What I mean is that it is possible that for one particular model for example the Valeo to outperform the Mahle one. I think it depends on which products the manufacturer uses a different filter media or different design (more surface area, etc). This would be an interesting subject on its own since it is a mixed decision between costs and performance (e.g. is Mann/Valeo/etc. using the same filter material throughout all their oil filter products?) . I appreciate the effort that you invest in these tests as they provide some sort of unbiased indication on what we are all using (similar to what Bob the oil guy did for engine oils). Thank you!

This is excellent testing! You are doing a real service to the rest of the driving community. Without tests like yours it is not possible to really see which products are worth their price. I was surprised to see Mahle being superior to Mann. As a driver of two diesel vehicles (Audi and VW) I would be very interested in seeing fuel filter reviews. Especially ones that focus on the following: 1. Filtration performance of debris 2. Water Separation and holding. 3. Resistance to gelling/parafin formation in cool temperatures. It would be nice to also see performance of "Inexpensive" brands like FRAM, WIX and other "Budget" filters to see just how good or bad their filtering performance would be.

In regards to the Mahle filters, I bought one thinking it was made in Austria as it said on the picture, turned out it was made in China. Also coming from the box it had a few dust and other particles on it without a protective plastic wrapping around it. I used Bosch before and I would stick to them. Even though Mahle filters are pretty good, I would say you can easily find much better for the price.

All these three brands are not manufacturers of filters (except that Valeo manufactures its own cabin filters to limited applications). Mahle filters are manufactured by Knecht, but its interesting to see that media is different. From my experience, Valeo filters are manufactured by various suppliers. You cant tell this by country of origin: Made in Poland - Filtron (Manufactures for many other brands and even used as OEM in rare cases) Made in Tunisia - Misfat (Also manufactures for Bosch, Purlfux, Motrio, PSA OEM, VAG OEM and others) Made in Bosnia and Herzegovina - Mann filter Made in Turkey - Unknown supplier, but it seems that also supplies Champion filters. Made in Germany - a Valeo factory for manufacturing cabin filters, also supplied to OEM And others.. Filter supplier can vary by type of filter/market/time, but it should be manufactured fulfilling Valeo quality standards at the lowest price supplier can offer. Same applies to other brands. For example, from my experience Bosch filters usually are better quality (many types are supplied by Mann filter) but also more expensive. Japanparts is only a packager of automotive parts mostly sourced from unknown origin, with low quality standards and no input in OEM. Quality is really variable. I would not recommend any of their products, usually price difference is not that big compared to proper brands.

Salut.
