I just spent 45 minutes reading about that U.S.S. Kearsarge, it's a museum ship now. Lots of cool stories about it. It's wild thinking your lighter was probably on that ship!

The history of this ship is definitely pretty cool. From being in both the Korean and Vietnam wars to being used to pick up an astronaut after coming back from space. I'm pretty sure the lighter is a 1953, which would put the lighter on board during the end of the Korean War if I have it figured out right, lol. It definitely was a well-used/loved Zippo. The stories it could tell.

Thank you. Got all of them working now as well. The Omega was a pain to get back together correctly, lol. The 1953 steel case cleaned up nicely.

Hey Terry, do you smoke? I offered my brother-in-law a light the other day and he said no thanks. He said the Zippo makes the cigarette taste off compared to a butane lighter. I've never heard of that before, but I don't really smoke.

Yes, I smoke. Both cigarettes and the occasional pipe. Your brother in law is silly about tasting the fuel or anything. If he would, it would only be for the first drag, if even. A lot of people just regurgitate what they hear. Your brother in law may just be doing that as well and has never actually used a Zippo to light anything, lol.

@@zippolyonsden1623 Yeah that's what I figured. Maybe next time I'm over there I'll do a blind taste test and light up 3 of his cigarettes with a Zippo, butane lighter, and match and ask him to pick which one tastes best. Only I'll light all 3 with my Zippo!

Had to get my sister in on the prank to pull it off. Her husband was convinced the "butane" was best with a completely neutral taste, the "match" left a definite sulfur taste in his mouth, and the "Zippo" was like standing next to a gas pump on a hot day. I had to give him points for creativity at least! And I think I'll be giving him a Zippo for his birthday.

@fredelas265 Did you do like you said and used a Zippo each time as well? That's awesome and hilarious if you did. Especially with getting your sister involved as well!! Definitely should get him a Zippo now, lol.
