Another problem that can contribute to this is the drip edge is installed too tight to the fascia and if it is a steel drip edge, it is next to impossible to bend out.

Awesome video!! We have issues with water getting behind the gutters and likely into the soffit. As a result, we’re getting some water damage on the drywall window surrounds. We had our roof replaced a few years ago and I noticed that the decking stopped 3/4” - 1” short of the fascia. My guess is the roofers like tore the old drip edge off and just let the shingles kind of curl into the gutters. Does this sound feasible or even probable? I need to get this fixed as it’s causing all kinds of other issues. I’m perfectly capable of installing this myself, although my wife says at over 60, I should not be 25 feet in the air on a ladder. From another video...if the roof is flattened out too much near the gutter then the water can sit there and get in between the shingles...I think perhaps that may be my problem as water is dripping at one place in particular from the fascia cover, where two pieces overlap and there is some drips on the soffit..I have a good drip edge bent out and shingles overhanging into the gutter so I don't know what else it could be...will have to wait for the snow to disappear to investigate further.

Hi..man you seem real smart..wish my gutters where installed by you..my question is i jus got gutters...i do have about 1 inch of shingle over hang..with my gutter being inch and a half below roof line exposing that much fescia for proper slope..but with that much exposed..do i need drip edge..even with the 1 inch shingle over hang? Thanx!! Oh but i. Did paint all the fescia with 2 coats of paint?

Rock here / every comp roof should have drip edge / if you don't some water WILL get behind the gutters

an installer told me a drip edge gets in the way of installing the gutter guard. I kind of see his point if the guard is screwed in the back right into the fascia. Am I wrong? Can the installer seal the gutter with silicone? Thanks in advance.

Hello, my name is Rock / I'm a licenced professioanl gutter installer in California / NEVER put 100% silicone anywhere near your gutters because after time the caulking will go bad / there are special gutter caulkings that are made to last for 10 to 15 years outside / again 100% silicone will go bad in about 2 to 3 years / and yes the drip edge does get in the way / but there are 5 ways or more to fix that problem

is it typical to have an angle cut ripped on the top of the 2x6 or 2x8 fascia board? We have water issues that are going to require the replacement of that (2x6 in our case) but the top on our house is flat. the pitch is 5 in 12

+Mike Zaloudek Not typical but likely, keeping in mind the miter/angle(Box Miter) is crimped together. I would recommend an aggressive gutter cleaning plan with a possible gutter guard installation, if there are any trees within 40 yards:)

+Everything Gutter I'm not sure what you mean by "the miter/angle(Box Miter) is crimped together" In this video the top of the 2x6 fascia is cut at an angle to match the roof pitch. I need to replace my 2x6 fascia. if the top of the fascia is flush with the end of the truss, this will cause the plywood sheathing to not sit flush unless the top of the fascia is cut at that same angle. No way! A gutter installer that also believes in/understands "asphalt eave metal" aka hanging shingles in deep enough which w/the actual metal or not, both accomplishes the same purpose. Have known some that're adamant about eave metal even if shingles are already hung far enough and not splashing back up and behind and I'll be like, "Really dude?!" if they're still insisting. Lol Good stuff man! 👍👍👍

@@Everythinggutter I have a mobile home and my walls and ceiling are getting water in them. There are no leaks in my roof at all. I keep my metal roof seams sealed and coat my roof as required. But, I noticed water running down the exterior walls of my home with the water running down from underneath the gutters. Where the gutters attach to the home are sealed very well. So what do you do when the water in running down like that and getting into walls and ceilings badly? My home has aluminum siding but it also has aluminum fascia from under the gutters to above the doors and windows (just to give you the area coverage.) I literally have rust stains on my outside walls from the water running straight down?

For reference my home is a single wide with a seamed 29 gauge pitched roof (2000 model) all of my ceilings on the inside are vaulted. The leaks are on the are near the walls and soaking I guess in the insulation and causing more problems towards the pitch.

If the gutter is mounted to the fascia this will not be possible if looking to complete properly. If the gutters are not mounted to the fascia it could be possible.
