Though I 100% agree, in general.. When a person is invited to a wedding - there is meant to be a bit of an exchange, taking place. Yes, it is customary to give the bride and groom gifts and/or money - though, it’s generally in exchange for the celebration and event that takes place, and what is meant to go along, with that. Such as dinner and drinks, dancing, etc. And all around good time. Especially, if people are traveling and going out of their way, to attend. However, this isn’t some friend of this woman or whatever, that is getting married - it’s her damned brother. She is digging her heels in, to be difficult and entitled - not on genuine principle. This is the type of family and sister One can never rely on, in times of need and emergency - let alone celebration. I feel for that brother. My family is a lot like this, also.

Theres no guarantee that the coordinator will accommodate a singular person when they have several things and people, mainly bride and groom, to deal with. (I was raised being told: "eating in front of people without offering them any is rude, unless you offer and they say no.") and all this friend normally had a her house was: cereal, canned food, or roman (she lived with her parents, we were 16) and we would go walking up town a lot, and it normally got late afternoon. so she would suggest stopping somewhere for lunch (she would never bring money), so I would pay her side, (despite not having much money myself) picture this happening almost every other day for 3 years. yet her acting like spending one dollar on a cheep necklace for my birthday (ONE TIME) was too much.....

Wedding gifts "traditionally", are to help a new family get a start... not help cut wedding costs, or a "celebrate you". Traditionally the wedding is paid for by the brides father. The gifts are to help start a family and furnish the new family home. Small appliances, kitchenware, home-goods, baby stuff, or cash. They were not personal, or fun gifts like Christmas or a birthday. They were functional gifts to help start a married-family life. Much of that has changed, sure. But that was Western tradition.

That was gross because no matter how bad her sister is at this job, she’s always gonna look like the ah for speaking about her that way. Of course if you’re giving everything of yourself and there’s no reciprocity, then by all means leave/set some boundaries. When I was in the army, there was a guy in our squadron who was a Muslim. I remember in the field once, we were lining up for the first hot meal in weeks. Roast chicken and baked potatoes. He goes up to the guy serving when it's his turn and says "I'm a Muslim". The guy plops a dry baked potato on his plate and told him to enjoy. Nobody really cared, and the Muslim soldier laughed. Some people need thicker skin when it comes to their make believe dietary restrictions. The Muslim guy at least had a religious reason. I was also at a wedding once, where the groom was a close friend. He asked me to go to the store half way through the reception to go pick up a few more cases of beer and crushed ice, as they were running low. I didn't say "Absolutely not. Why would I do that?". I did my pal a solid, and went on a beer run. And this is her brother? She must be a hoot at Thanksgiving dinner, but she's probably the kind of person who denounces Thanksgiving as a genocidal holiday targeting First Nations people.
