Dude. I replicated this rig, except couldn't find a 2070, so settled for a 2060, and I went with a green vandal switch. Also, went for the ASROCK Z390 Phantom Gaming mobo (because it has Thunderbolt 3), and modded/installed a 7-inch raspberry pi screen on the front panel (next to the gpu exhaust) instead of installing extra ssds. I use it to display hardware stats or just fun little vaporwave screensavers. Beautiful build! I've loved it. Thanks for your tips and the build guide!

I got my cables from pslate for my nuovolo steck before the case was released -- despite pre-release he did a great job sizing. What I liked is I just told him the SFX case I was using, PSU, GPU, etc, and he took care of the rest. Not having to gamble that I'm taking sizes correctly was killer.

Also, Silverstone's SFX psus can fit a cable set called the PP05E, can be hard to find but worth it. Super flexible, all black flat cables that I use whenever I can. The connectors are also standard Silverstone, so a Silverstone ATX PSU can also work if the case allows it.

Timely video to see, I am planning my own build in that case. First build in a VERY long time. And while I'm going with a Ryzen 3700x, the gpu will be the same as what you used here...though I didn't know the 2070 super was going to be availble in a mini/itx version. I also really like your use of all M.2 drives and will be using that idea, thanks! I will, most likely, go with a 1tb nvme drive as my boot drive and use 2 Intel 660p 2 tb drives in those enclosures as storage drives. Not sure if the main boards I can choose from will have one or two M.2 slots on them, if there are two, then a third 2 tb 660p drive will be the other one. Not exactly sure which drive I'll settle on as the boot drive. Finally, thank you very much for the heads up about PSlate Customs! I figured that custom cable would be the way to go and having a good recommendation for some one who knows the LZ7 case will make that process MUCH easier--I was getting a bit nervous about having to specify lengths and maybe not getting that quite right. The added bonus of having multiple color choices as well is just cool. Thank you for sharing this with us!

@@Tekeverything , All the Zotac mini cards seem to be just a bit too long for this case though. Been saving my nickels for a while now and will start ordering parts this week, which means I'm not going to wait for the super. Frankly, I'm upgrading from a fairly decent laptop so the 2070, super or not, will be a major improvement over what I'm used to. And I won't let "best" get in the way of plenty good enough! :)

2 Questions: 1: What do you game at? I'm gaming at 1440p, 144hz, ultra settings, and my cpu temps are in the high 70c-80c for some games. What program did you use to monitor temps, HWMonitor? 2: How much did the custom cables cost? The website makes it look like you have to buy each one separately, and one of them alone is $63. Are they $63 each?

I typically game at 3860x1600. I have a 38" ultrawide. I typically test at 1440p. The cables were sent to me so I'm not sure what the price would be. $63 per cable doesn't seem right though.

Cool, my current build is based on a LZ7 too. Actually, I saw your previous video about it and I felt in love with the case. Instead of Intel, I used a Ryzen 1700x, but the PSU and the GPU was the same, even the cooler is the same. I was thinking on upgrading the internals and now I see this video, I want to upgrade even more. However, I will wait for a bit, I am short on cash and I want to see if a mini 2080/2080 super is released. I was thinking about a Ryzen 3700, but maybe by the time I decide to upgrade, there's a 4080 and a Ryzen 4700 or something, we'll see.

CPU temperatures are below 60c with gaming on average, and the system is quieter than my old PC, and 1/3 the size. I'm getting the custom cables in January when they're available again. The only problem I had with building, was the Z370-I Bios was out of date, and didnt work nativly with the I7 9700K, so I needed to take it to a shop, and have him put in a compatible CPU, and update the Bios. I was thinking of building a new HTPC that can play 4k videos and had some questions. My plan was to use a low end Intel 1151 Coffee Lake but it looks like most Mini ITX boards only support HDMI 1.4 (4k at 30 fps max). Since the onboard HDMI would be a bottleneck I would have to buy something like a GT 1030 to get HDMI 2.0 but I don't know if Coffee Lake has enough procesing power to decode in software. I could use the Coffee Lake's onboard GPU to decode the video but I don't know if the GPU will output to the GT 1030's HDMI. Do you have any experience with this? If you have parts and time would you be willing to do some testing? I was planning to use LibreElec which can be run off a USB fllash drive.
@isaacstoltz9776
@isaacstoltz9776 5 жыл бұрын
I mean, you could just use the actual dedicated GPU instead of the iGPU, cause the 1030's faster. You wouldn't have to worry about outputting to a certain HDMI either.
@JohnSmith-qn3ob
@JohnSmith-qn3ob 5 жыл бұрын
@@isaacstoltz9776 Like I said I was planning on using LibreElec/Kodi which is linux based. It doesn't support CUVID/NVDEC so I can't use the GPU for decoding. I would have to use the CPU to decode in software then the 1030 would just display the decoded video. This is why I was asking for him to test if he could. I would love to decode the video with VA-API on the iGPU then send it to the 1030 but I don't even know if that's possible.

Add me with a +1 recommendation for PSLATE. I got non-sleeved customs cables for my Nouvolo Steck assembly (Which of course got inspired by Tek's original video). They are truly a worthy investment just by the amount of space they free-up and the ease of routing, pre-bending the cables to match your components is something you don't think too much about until you start building in such compact cases.

@@rodrigooocosta Sim.

@6:00 Wait what? Am i mistaken or did you say you replaced a 1080 mini with a 2070 mini? The 2070 is at best a few frames faster O_o. Maybe 10%.

Significant performance boost, + Ray Tracing Support, + better cooling, + I make KZbin videos and I'm not hunting for value

@@Tekeverything Well fair enough ... i still doubt the "significant" performance boost, and i still do not see a significant advantage in Ray Tracing (and no i do not count Minecraft which has default no/terrible lighting as this is just unfair it could look much better if Microsoft would try even without Ray Tracing) ... but ok it is your money. So spend it on what you want :).

Please get yourself a NAS! Having music, films and mission critical documents will free up that internal storage. Raid O those SATA drives 🤘

Can you tell me whatre those thin sata data cables that you used for m.2 adapters?
@user-xt1vs2oz3b
@user-xt1vs2oz3b 5 жыл бұрын
I thought when you use an adapter for an M.2 card down to SATA you only get SATA performance? So you are not getting the full M.2 IOPS. SATA is an older technology.

Hi Jay, this may be a stupid question, but did you have any thermal concerns using 2.5" enclosures for the m.2 SATA SSDs?
@Tekeverything
@Tekeverything 5 жыл бұрын
No, none at all. The 860's run really cool since they are SATA drives with limited speed. The enclosures I'm using are also metal, so they do a decent job of dissipating any heat that may build up.
