I just love these old Alcos!! The 958 is still alive and well, working on the Hobo in Lincoln NH. At least it and a very few sisters are still kicking. I miss seeing Moose. Thanks to him, many of us oldtimers can still relive the good old days! Thank you for sharing!

David Poor I believe the Hobo Railroad has the 959 which came from the North Stratford Railroad in Beecher Falls and before that from the Maine Central Railroad

I actually modeled that engine # for my Rigby yard switching I even weather it exactly from a ho scale Atlas S-1. I believe that was the last one at Rigby and local working before they got rid of it 😭

Andrew Wilson If I haven't mentioned this before, I found the bell combo for it's p4, from what I believe. It is bells 0,1,2, and 3.

If you don't mind my asking, where is the crossing at 5:57? Great video, by the way! I can't get enough of vintage railroad footage.

Lorna D it is just a railroad crossing without any of the mechanical crossing signs.

Quite funny, sort of "back to the future". In the video the Rockland yard is weedy and dead, dead, dead ! On Google Earth, the yard is full of ballast....good amount of cars....and turntable with 3 stalls enginehouse are still proudly there and even the S1, now on a tourist line have survived ! Quite weird....30 years after.

I have pictures of this engine running in 1999. Had much cleaner paint too. Not sure what ever happened to it.

Looks healthy for 50 y.o. at the time, and still has plain journal axle-bearings.

The engine got into a crash at one point and they had to rebuild the cab. They did give it some new stuff, like a new brake stand and what not.
