Hey Viking. I'm in rural Victoria, Australia. I caught the bus into the big smoke the other day, and on the trip in, I saw over 30 Teslas on the Monash Fwy. There were times when there was 2 - 3 in sight at one time. Slowly then suddenly.

If it's like here in California when a big fire is burning, and smoke is thick on the road, driving the Tesla is a pleasure. The carbon HVAC filter takes out the smoke smell so you don't have to breathe the contaminated air. Worrks dramatically better than any other vehicle I've driven.

I have just returned from Canada..Literally every 3rd car on Vanvouver streets is a Tesla M3 or Y, with a smattering of X and S. There were also a good representation of other EV's. Even saw 2 Rivians at Banff (pls bring these to Australia). I saw the future. If EV sales are crashing no one told Canada.

@@ricric9521 That's not what the op said - Tesla does not recognise a sale until the end user has paid for it, those cars on the Tesla website are not recorded as sales, they remain as inventory. Additionally Tesla don't recognise a "delivery" in their quarterly statements even after the buyer has paid for a car if the physical transfer of the vehicle has not taken place. When a legacy auto maker with a dealer network sends a car from their production facility to the dealer network in the USA it is recorded as a "sale" and "receivable" in the books of the legacy auto maker, legacy auto also stops counting any cars in dealer networks as inventory - they become part of the inventory of the dealer network not legacy auto.

Yes, it seems that Tesla is slowing down production of new cars to match their sales that are no longer growing. It makes sense that they had a huge inventory of unsold cars for some months. I am happy that other manufacturers are selling more EVs. A monopoly is not good for anyone except Elon.

I’ve had a Model Y for 18 months now - hands down the best vehicle I have ever driven- my skeptic Wife enjoys driving it as well - the build quality, the on-the-road experience are far superior to any other car - we have had FSD active for 2 months now, it is impressive and especially on long drives is very helpful - our car is still 12.3 version which is very good but does need some minor improvements - I can see a year from now using FSD more often than not - also my Mom is no longer able to drive; it would be a game changer for us if we could get her an FSD Tesla to take her around to visit her friends & make trips to the market

They had excess inventory after Q1 so setup regional storage locations to fulfill orders from inventory, while they reduced production to get back to their target days of inventory. There is a defunct mall parking near where I live that they rented for this purpose, where several hundred Teslas were stored. As a TSLA investor, I have really enjoyed monitoring how the numbers of cars in that lot reduced throughout the quarter.

YTD In Australia, Tesla have sold 23,116 cars as opposed to this time LY - 25,577. Maybe the extra numbers in their quarterly earnings have come from China and other markets like the US where they have good finance incentives. I still don’t believe the BS from Aus mainstream media though.

New isn't necessarily always better. I recently drove the Highland model 3 and wasn't impressed with having to put the car in gear by swiping the screen. Personal preference.

Most of the time it autoselects the gear for you, so you just press the brake pedal (as instructed on screen). I've had screen gear selection for 2 years now (Model S), and need to use the screen to change the gear about 10% of the time. I expect this will go down further as the logic improves. It does take a few days to get used to it, but I got comfortable with it very quickly. A 1 hour test ride likely is not enough to get the sense of it, but I understand if you don't like it - it is different. As to being better - I prefer it now. One less dust collector on the column!

Oregon USA here. I live a couple miles from Interstate 5 and several times per week I drive 20 minutes to get to a nearby town where I have relatives. Almost 100% of my trips, I see at least one large truck in the northbound lanes, on its way to deliver Tesla vehicles to buyers. That goes on all day every day, so I don't think Tesla is having problems selling cars. Car "graveyards" are usually just temporary storage areas. For example, local ICE dealers keep some cars at the dealership. Those can be purchased and immediately driven away. They have many more vehicles on temporary lots and those typically take a few hours to get to the dealership.

First, we have to build out the solar power plants and get rid of "peak demand pricing" that gives electricity producers (and their attorneys and consultants) total incentive to limit the supply of electricity. I quite agree, you shouldn't trust anything the Electric Viking says without digging deeper yourself. Compared to the first six months of 2023, in 2024 Tesla production is down 6.3% (2023 901k, 2024 844k) and deliveries down 6.5% (2023 889k, 2024 831k). In a rising BEV market, I would think those are pretty crap numbers, don't you?

Sam or anyone watching, why do we see battery farms without solar panels over the top over them?? One (well I) would think that it makes sense as it generates local power and shades the batteries (reduces solar heat gain and degradation of paint, cables etc.). I know it could hamper certain maintenance and repair activities but that should be easy to solve (hinging frames etc.). Keen to find out !!!

You're probably the type to complain about road construction, oh man, why are they digging up the road, the old street was fine. The batteries need time to stage and setup, solar panels can be built within a few weeks and are logistically much easier. Sometimes you'll see the battery setup sooner, depends on the utility provider, some are faster others slower, and this is independent from production and delivery of the battery

Probably the cost to build a special structure over the top of the batteries to add some extra panels. The lower cost option as land is NOT an issue is to simply add those extra panels to the existing farm using standard frames and electrical connections. PS 65% of the cost of a Solar Farm is NOT the cost of panels. Which is also the same reason we don't put panels over railway tracks ie The cost of a special structure to mount the panels. The panels can catch a LOT of wind so mounting them low to the ground in ordered rows helps each row protect the others from high winds and ensures the lowest cost mounting frames.

Because the area under the solar panels warms up and heat is bad for batteries. Have a look at what happened in the Sahara desert where they covered it in solar. The ground underneath is now damaged.

Storage batteries are painted white to reflect radiated light (inc. infrared heat) away, solar panels are black to absorb radiated light. The area under a solar panel gets hot and heats up the air underneath it, which if placed above a battery unit would reduce the ability of the battery's cooling to remove heat. It also reduces the free space above the battery for the heat to rise away. The solar panels would also be less efficient due to the heat exchausted from the batteries warming them up. They could over rate the battery unit's fans, but this warms the panels further and uses more electricity defeating the point of the solar cells above, or they could place the panels on tall structures, but this would increase cost, be difficult to maintain and introduce more battery unit planned outages when staff have to work on the solar panels above. Hence if you have the land available besides the battery units it's more cost effecitve and efficient to use that land instead.

Humans don't understand lanes, much less how and when to use turn signals, and much-much less the concept of roundabouts. Add to that: humans falling asleep, chronically speeding in times they shouldn't like in cities or in the rain, overcorrecting when a leaf startles them and flipping 5 times or bouncing across lanes taking another 2 or 3 cars with them, some kids being kids, and some elderly being elderly.... (I'm sure there's a ton more examples but those are enough for me to say) I'd much rather have an engineer drive my car. Maybe not in 2024, but soon. The sooner the better.

Unfortunately in NZ we have a new Government who seem to be in the grip of the fossil fuel industry. They cancelled any rebates for EV’s, added per km road user charges to BEV’s and PHEV’s, and removed the tax on high emission cars. They also reversed the ban on fossil fuel exploration, and exempted farmers from emissions trading. Pretty disappointing.

All i know is that 2 months ago there were 10 cybertrucks in our local dealers lot. Last Saturday there were 23 sitting there. I chose not to complete my order because the range is so low. I figured i was about 500,000 in line give or take. I don't think i am alone.

I still have FSD 12.3.6, which I use every day. It is the reason we purchased Tesla, the EV part is not a consideration. Our Model Y has more features now than when we purchased it last year, with more coming. One can purchase a used tesla with HW3.0 and continue to get updates along with the newer models

Their Q2 deliveries in 2024 were down nearly 5% from their Q2 deliveries in 2023. They have reduced prices since then as well. They are selling fewer cars and their margins are coming down. Nobody is saying that they aren’t selling cars-stocks are forward looking. When they see sales slowing and margins decreasing-there is some cause for concern-especially at the multiple that Tesla trades at. With that said, Elon is a great innovator and the robo-taxi thing could be huge-but I don’t think that chest pounding in regards to Tesla’s 2024 q2 numbers is a little wild. Elon does have a history to being too optimistic about projects-so the robo taxi thing could take a lot longer than expected.

As Tesla's global sales dropped as much as its sales dropped in China, US sales has to be good. Europe Model 3 sales should be good, too - expecting additional 38% tariffs imposed to its imports starting tomorrow. E.g. in Finland 24% increase that is mostly from June vs. 50% decrease on Model Y sales (net change -39%). So there might be less sales in Q3 in Europe in the future. Francly, Model Y seems to be phasing out of fads there.
