💜✋ You have to understand the context of this movie : BRUCE WILLIS was a comedic actor at the time! He played in an American TVseries ( Moonlighting, 1985-1989 ). Nobody believed that he could be the main action character in a movie! Bruce wasn't even on the movie posters, the producers didn't believe him either! This fantastic movie catapulted Bruce Willis to the world action star of the time! At that time, action heroes were extra strong, indestructible, didn't bleed (Arnold and the others), but Bruce Willis introduced a new type of action hero. His character was an ordinary person who bled, was exhausted, sometimes frustrated, but still full of determination to win the fight! Bruce Willis proved this with this great movie! Thank you for your great reactions! This is how millions of people around the world reacted to this Iconic movie ✋💜

Fun fact , when it came to hans getting dropped like a bad habit to his death, rickman wss up on a harness about 20 feet in the air and when it came to drop him the director told everyone there except rickman when he was going to get dropped. So the scared look on hans face when he's falling was real fear on rickman face

The comments about power and money vs love and family was spot on. Another symbolic element of that, was Hans clinging on to the Rolex and the McClanes have to cast off that symbol of materialism for love to win the day. What is more Christmas than that?

Theo the Hacker was portrayed by Clarence Gilyard Jr. Gilyard who also appeared in the original Top Gun movie in 1986. He also portrayed a private investigator Conrad McMasters in the tv series Matlock opposite Andy Griffith. One of his most popular roles was Texas Ranger Jimmy Trivette opposite Chuck Norris in the popular Walker Texas Ranger TV series for 9 seasons. Sadly, Gilyard passed away in 2022 from a long undisclosed illness. He left behind a very versatile body of acting roles.

The trivia behind this movie is amazing . Bruce Willis was consider to be a joke to be cast in an action movie. The way the movie was shot changed action movies forever . Bruce lost some of his hearing due to the explosions and gun fire. Alan Rickman's first movie. The actor who played Karl was a world renown ballet dancer who's defection was made into a movie itself

There's a German classical orchestra that played parts of the score by Michael Kamen in their Christmas concert! It cannot get more Christmassy than this when a mainstream classical orchestra considers the MUSIC to be Christmas music!

"Die Hard" inverts the hostage thriller genre. Typically it is a happy family that gets kidnnapped. But in this case it is an unhappy family that gets reunited by the ordeal just in time for Xmas. The spirit of Xmas comes through as the catharsis, which is why it most definitely is a Xmas movie. .

Great reaction! I love your discussions about the movies, both during and afterward - very insightful!! I fondly remember my older sister bragging on Die Hard back when it first came out in 1988 and insisting on taking me to see it at the theater. It blew me away. All the characters were very well done and it helped that the villains were extremely competent, making the tension that much greater. Though he was a villain, Theo was one of my favorites in this. They actually had an auto parts commercial a couple of years back where Theo comes back for revenge on McClane and Argyle - it was quite hilarious!

Nakatomi Plaza aka (at the time) Fox Studios Plaza. Apparently the name changed a few years back after Fox being bought by Disney. I used to be a courier for the studios and would make deliveries to this building 2 to 3 times a week, It wasn't till about a year after leaving that job I was watching this and realized it was the same building.

A theme in "Die Hard" that can't be overstated is the clash between New York and California culture. Bruce Willis embodies NY grittiness exceptionally well. For American audiences you can catch the subtle details in most scenes. It adds a lot to the charm and makes it highly re-watchable (esp. for Xmas!).

Every Christmas.. Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. Two of the best Christmas movies made that fulfills so much of what a Christmas movie should have and still reminds us to have a lot of craziness and fun while celebrating the season. I'm sure someone already said it, but this was actually filmed using the 20th Century Fox building in LA at the time. I'm not sure it's still the way it was back then, but you might be able to still go check it out if you wanted to. Merry Christmas, and remember, it's not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from the 30th or so floor of Nakatomi Plaza. 🎅

The discussion around writing good characters of color is always an interesting one. I think this and lethal weapon did a fair job but it also established this trend of characters of color only being the sidekick. Nothing wrong with sidekicks of course but Hollywood just took that and decided that was the only mold for those characters which is problematic. Fortunately that has started to change but Hollywood has a tendency to overcorrect with everything so only time will tell. The easy solution would be to just have open casting calls for these lead roles but that happens few and far between. I remember Dev Patel in interviews talking about trying to get his Monkeyman movie made and the only way he could get it to happen was by writing, directing and starring in it himself. It really shouldn't be that hard for someone of color to get a lead project off the ground.

Great reaction, but the voices sound high pitch. It distracts from the video. In the plane scene, you mention how “iconic” Bruce’s voice is and a second later, he sounds like Micky Mouse. If this is on purpose, then maybe a short explanation of what to expect in the intro would be nice. But, as I said, nice reaction…:)

Every time I see this movie, seeing all that glass and McClane walking barefoot hurts me so much. Having McClane be barefoot was such a great film decision. You should read some of the behind the scenes stories from this movie, like how Alan Rickman did not expect to get dropped for real when he was and so the expression on his face is real or how Alan Rickman injured himself on a stunt and so, most the movie he was sitting. I remember how excited I was the first time I saw this movie to see Carl Winslow from Family Matters in this movie. There is a KZbin video that combines the trailers of Die Hard and Home Alone you just gotta watch, it's so funny. LOL, the almost chipmunk-like voices add something different to the movie I did not think I needed. This movie & Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves are Alan Rickman's best 2 movie performances, in my opinion. Die Hard 1-3 & THe Last Boyscout are seriously my top 2 favorite Bruce Willis movies of all time! I will always stand by my argument that Die Hard is indeed a Christmas movie! If you take the same movie and put/set it in July, it is NOT the same movie & does not work the same way. Everything works within the context of Christmas.Even how McClane "defeats" Gruber using Christmas tape to hide his gun is Christmasy. Christmas is as much a character in the movie as Gotham is in a Batman movie. On the other hand, put a movie like Rambo First Blood from the Christmas season in which it takes place & move that into July & you get pretty much the exact same movie without having to change hardly anything in the movie. I am partial to Lethal Weapon being a Christmas movie. Move Lethal Weapon from Christmas time into July & I'd say about 40% of the same movie stays exactly the same, BUT 60% of the movie & dialogue would need changed just to get the same type of "feel" from the movie. Even the history of Sgt. Riggs is made that much sadder because of the Christmas season, in much the same way Sgt. Powell's sad history here is made even sadder because it is Christmas time. Die Hard 2 is a Christmas movie too for the same reasons. You ever see the movie, "The Long Kiss Goodnight"? That is 1 of my favorite Christmas action movies too.

He told them that Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. And I agree with him because the movie is not a holiday movie It's a story that takes place during Christmas time but is not a Christmas movie.

It’s not a Christmas movie. Christmas movies come out at Christmas. Die Hard premiered on July 12, 1988 at the Avco Theater. It was a summer blockbuster. If it was studio executives would’ve released it in the holiday season.
