As a retired Broadcast Engineer of 45 years I've built some pretty huge TV production systems in my day. I'm impressed with your YoutTube style, efficiency on getting to the point, value consciousness, production value, and especially your knowledge. Having worked as a committee chairman for Motion Picture and Television standards within SMPTE, I'm all too aware of the accuracy of the phrase, "the nice thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from!" The consumer electronics world is a huge mix of CES standards and proprietary methods. It's amazing the consumer stuff interoperates at all! So, keep up the good work!

Nice well thought through setup. Like the automation aspect. But putting a popcorn maker in the area...while popular among HT buffs...I have to wonder--will it attract rodents into your home? Will it? As I don't think you'll clean out the popcorn maker after each time you watch a movie. So I'll have popcorn sitting in the machine over night. Mice get a whiff of that from outside..then they might start burrowing into your home...I've avoiding leaving food in my HT room or even eating or drinking while watching. Tell me how this goes with your setup. :)

This is the way to do it, start small learn how things work, take your time, upgrading as time goes on. As you have a better idea on what you want rather than splashing a load on money at the start. Patience is key to a good HT, one thing I would do is put isolation pads underneath the center speaker, It will help as the cabinet is hollow and can also can angle it slightly upwards towards the MLP. Nice Setup

Any possibility of doing a video for someone just starting out who’s looking for roughly a 7.1.2 set-up (no in-wall or in-ceiling speakers) with a receiver that has 4k & 3D pass-thru and supports both Atmos AND dts:x (My LG TV supports everything under the sun except Atmos so if I get an Xbox One X as my blu-Ray player, it’s not clear to me if this system would pick up Atmos on Netflix and KZbin?). The main info I’d be interested in (& I would think others would as well) is how to mix and match the receiver, sub-woofer, surround speakers, a good center channel speaker for clear dialogue, and Atmos enabled speakers. I am not driven by bargain prices but can’t break the bank either - something mid-range. You touch on some of these issues in this video, but it’s tailored to your own home theater system and some parts that came from friends, etc. I have no idea what criteria to use when selecting various brands (and why these criteria are important), so would it be better to get as much as possible from one manufacturer? How much does room size and shape fit into the selection process, etc. Hope your other viewers would find this beneficial and thanks for your great videos!

I understand and respect your "bang for the buck" approach. I am right there with you. That said, if you watch many 4k Blu-rays I would look into the Oppo UDP-203 to make your projector really shine. If you stream from you library / internet more frequently than it is probably a moot issue. Gorgeous setup btw. I have older Martin Logan speakers (5,1) and Emotiva amperage around a 65" Samsung 9500. I'd like to update the audio and move to Atmos, but that will require finishing my basement and the pocket book screams like a horror movie victim at the mere suggestion. I must live vicariously through guys like you. ;-)

Great set up. You should get some bookshelf stands and bring your rear speakers closer to the seating area. Also, invest in a external 7 channel amp, you'll notice a big difference in your sound and reduce the strain on your receiver and give it ample power unlike the current receivers of today. I suggest the Monoprice Monolith. It's the cheapest and best 7 channel amp at $1500 directly from Monoprice. Also, definitely get the external fans from Cooler Guys. Your receiver must be really hot inside that cabinet working overtime. I have a Denon 6300h so I know.
