Can Angelfish be kept with coral?

Yep a mixed bag really. I find personally because I like the large angels too much , I struggle with coral in general because of the nutrient buildup. Phosphate etc. It’s a constant battle to keep the Corals alive long term , even hammers, torches, frog spawn , elegance, whatever. But I do find the fish pretty much leave them alone until there’s something not quite right and then they’ll start to pick at it. I have a large Passer , Queen and large blueface and did have a Majestic amongst other tangs , powder blue, yellows and wrasses. Personally because I like the fish too much , I’m getting to the point off maybe just having a tank full of morphs, Rhodactis and so on , even some of those the gush pick at.

If you like to keep it together, make sure you feed your angels planty of meaty snacks. And not just ones a week, but every day. For a reference, fresh water Oscar fish will do the same to your beautiful green plants if not properly entertained. That's just my two cents. Happy reefing

I have dwarf potters and flame in a 98 gallon reef and both of them are too entertained to pick the the coral and they usually go ham for shrimp and seaweed anyways haha 😂❤

My juvenile french angel occasionally nips on my brain coral and gorgs I find it pretty satisfying and not really notice any damages goin cause at night when they sleeping they all open up but I keeps a close eye on him Incase I do notice any damage

This is great advice. Better than making a wholesale ban on angels with corals.

In your experience, do queen angelfish, especially large adults, need sponge in their diets to stay healthy. Or just a mix of meats n veggies

Thoughts on Bubble Tip Anemones? Just building my 5' system with a fish focus, so a Majestic Angel is on the list. But keen to try a bubble tip colony with a pair of Clarkii Clownfish too. Potential the Clowns will fend off any nibbles!

Large angles - fish only. Some pygmy are generally OK. I get coral beauty and flame angle - no issues. Most other ones are really hit or miss. Cheers Piotr
