I would first like to say. that this was a great video. I would like to see them come out with a few upgrades that are well needed. the drone itself is a really nice looking drone . myself I'm looking for a drone that can go out that long distance. and for the money solo needs to upgrade that it is a beautiful looking drone I've been flying them for a few years now and I'm still learning

I know most drones have a "follow me" feature. But, do they all have to follow you from BEHIND rather than IN-FRONT so the camera catches your "front/facial expressions" as you walk or run? And once set do you need to keep your hands on the remote to keep it on track?

Cool video, and I know that this is an old video, but I just bought the 3DR Solo from QVC for $199.00 + shipping so about $230.00, I didn't get the hero gimbal, I'm going a different route, because that gimbal will only accommodate the hero 3/4 line and probably the hero5 as well, I went with a Go Pro Hero Session, I like that it's so mush smaller and lighter and I got a gimbal that's going to accommodate that camera so I'll have to do some modifications on my own, and since 3DR is getting out of the drone market I don't except any support from them so this is all on me. But again thanks for the video, very informative, I particularly like the fact that you opened up the drone at the gimbal area and gave me a sneak peak. I should have my drone by Friday May 5 2017, so we'll go from there and I'll probably post my maiden voyage video, just so everyone can see.

the current advantage of the 3dr solo gimbal is the price. I just got mine for only $47 at best buy. I also got a used hero 3+ black camera for 120 on ebay. So the total of my whole 3dr/hero solution is going to cost around 400 including shipping. Your idea to use a session camera looks interesting.

Owned solo for 5 months. Software update allows GP control. For $10 buy an alpha antenna and fly as far as phantom. I also have a phantom. I get GPS lock in 15-60 seconds with solo. Smart shots amazing and can do 4K now. An evolving platform. Buy solo and grow. Dji makes you buy new UAVS to get upgrades.

They need to knock the price of the Solo + Gimbal to around $800 to even compete with the Phantom 3. In addition, due to the limitations in distance - I'd price it closer to $500 right now. I think they'll probably upgrade the distance and features soon but it's too expensive for what you get in my opinion. I'd really like to see 3DR be able to compete with DJI!

It's on sale for $1000 today with gimbal.... People always compare it against models already having a camera... However most, like the vision, use a proprietary camera whereas you can swap cams in this model.... I already have a hero 4 black, so I'm getting the solo!!

Definitely. I got the same set up for just a little bit more than the package you've described and have been very happy so far. I'm a newbie to drone flying and have been able to make some incredible aerial videos thanks to the Smart Shot features.

Why Am I Having problems With My Solo U.A.V. ? At times the Solo App Shows That The U.A.V. it’s Not Connected, Or My GoPro 4 Black addition have trouble shooting in which my IPad or My Android turns all Green like if you would’ve had a Night visión into a Lighted area. Or it’s just turns All Black with blue snow flakes, but colors on my screen looks like a T.V. Without an Cable box or with no reciption.

I just got mine for $1000 bucks, Solo, Gimbal, and Case combo deal. Already had the gopro. This is my first all in one bought drone, all my other drones I have built myself with various controller boards like the KKK, the apm from 3D robotics and of course the DJI's. This thing flies perfect right out of the box in literally minutes. It does not have really good range, but I did spend a little more and got FPV long range's antenna for the Solo and they boast a boost to 1.5 to 2 miles with this 10.5 db antenna in perfect conditions. Farther with amplifiers. So far I'm liking it, but in all fairness I have never flown a phantom to make an honest comparison. My budget doesn't allow me to buy ALL the drones on the market :)

ZIMALETA HOW TO SHOW & UNBOXING the only way to use the hero 5 with the solo is to use the static mount. The gimbal doesn't support the hero5 and there are no plans to make a new one.

My understanding is the 5 will not work and the 4 Black is the best GoPro to get for the Solo. There's a site for Solo pilots called 3drpilots.com, lots of good info!

Of course some of the bugs have been worked out like controlling the GoPro and the price dropped when it was discontinued. So some of this old review is pretty obsolete. But so is the drone to some extent.

+stantheman Definitely! Pictures as well as video. The app you run on your device will let you switch from video mode to camera mode while its up and flying...and you can change your frame rates and field of views (narrow, medium, wide, or super wide) all while your up and flying too. The left trigger button that you pan with, if you click it in, you can start or stop video or snap a picture depending on what mode your in...video or picture with out even taking your hands off the sticks.

Great video,But you forgot to mention that ALL DJI PHANTOM 3,s Shells are cracking apart under normal flight as well as there camera/gimbals are also falling apart just flying! and the fact that DJI customer service is non existant and 3DR has the best Customer service out there!

+david ringler Quite a statement - so you are claiming that ALL of the 500,000 sold P3 shells are cracking? Wow - I guess it's 499,999 since I've made mine since May. Oh, you should read up on 3DR customer service - one guy with a bad gimbal is going on 8 weeks. Maybe get no answers for weeks. DJI has been improving but it's also well known that they don't win any awards. But their reliability seem quite a bit better than Solos - and since a P3 standard is $699 for most of the same features (and better GPS and range), it may not appeal to many to spend almost 3X the price. (P3S will be on sale for $599 on Black Friday Weekend).

I've been doing research about aerial drone for my video production. I don't want to spend money on Chinese-made products like DJI drones. So my choice has narrowed down to 3DR. But after reading 3DR's users' experience, I am so turned off by 3DR customer service records. 3DR needs to get their act together on customer service or die (bankrupt) as a company!

This "phantom killer" is old technology with cheap wifi and wery limited range. Bad gps antenna and crappy 12min flytime. Nothing about this quad is better then dji phantom 3 and now that we have phantom 4 i dont think 3dr sells many quads before they releese a solo 2

That's really not an issue. DJI Isn't producing Phantom 3's or the original Phantom 4 anymore either. The Solo is still an excellent drone selling at prices far below DJI or Yuneec.

+david ringler Are these your best excuses?...I have owned a Phantom 3 Advanced for the last 4 months with no cracks at all. Gimbal works perfectly. Waypoints has been online for a while now. SDK Apps rock for DJI with Lichi. Never had a reason to contact DJI Support which If one needed it would take about 3 weeks for repairs. We can do some money math if you like. I love numbers...Its $2200 to get a Solo off the ground with bird,smart device,gimbal, 4K camera. It is about $1450 to get a Phantom 3 Professional off the ground with aircraft and smart device. The Phantom 3 Advanced is $799...So yes, The Phantom 3 crushes the Solo.

well look on here p3 shells&gimbals falling apart under normal flying and it takes 6to8 months for dji to ship you a refurbished unit even if your was faulty out of the box! that is why on demunseed chanel his buddy purchased 28 p3,s that were fucked up from 1 dealer!to be honest 3DR multis are truly for more advanced pilots! you should have some custom builds in before you go with 3dr except for the solo!

This company has been a nightmare to deal with. They have a common software issue that mine experienced. 4 weeks ago I sent my request for a solution and was told that it would be 2-3 week for it to be reviewed. It still has not been reviewed! After my purchase I found an article in Forbes Magazine pretty much saying that their new technology gave them the ability to take over the industry, but apparently they screwed something up because the article also said they are struggling to stay alive. BUYER BEWARE

Actually, all the software issues were fixed almost a year ago. The GPS issues have also been addressed with a REV B GPS and a new GPS shield that can be purchased for just $15. As of now, it's a solid drone and a fantastic deal with the remaining stock going at fire-sale prices.
