I haven't played very many Zelda hacks, but this is absolutely the best one I've played, I did everything in it! Except get the young deku npc, it never showed up for some reason, but I don't think that's too important. Either way, great hack, I love the new items and the item upgrades, the new enemies, the npcs, the new map, the music, all of it. I might go back and play it on difficult or mirror mode at some point.

I love how in the Phantom Ganon rematch, you fight him in the place depicted by the picture frames and the paintings are of the arena you originally fought him in.

My hunch with Ganondorf not changing like the other bosses is that this romhack is supposed to take place in the defeated timeline, so that is probably why the devs stayed with the vanilla Ganon which would make sense. Great romhack nonetheless.

Yeah Master Shiba spells it out, Ganon killed Link which is why his fight is unchanged. The other bosses are spirits of the dead seeking revenge, Ganon is a memory.

I think another cool change would be to remove the old man's axe until he shows up at the very end. I pretty much assumed from the very start that he would be the final guy simply because he had that HUGE axe on his back. Remove that, and it'll be a bigger surprise at the end when he shows up WITH the axe and you're like "wait a minute...he's got a WEAPON!? Uh oh..."

It is absolutely hilarious to me that Zelda speed runners are always bad at actually playing the game normally. The only thing they have down solidly for muscle memory is the glitches and barely enough enough knowledge of the base game to play in between sections 😂

Lol I noticed that with a huge portion of speed runners also. Most are really good a cheese strats and glitches but when it comes to combat like USING A DAMN SHIELD lol, actually upgrading instead of just rushing through to beat the game, and anything new that they haven't practiced hundreds of times like puzzles or new enemies they struggle so much lol. I still give props for playing though and no disrespect to MajinPhil in anyway, it is just funny to see.

​@@JohnU1515 I feel like it is this way with games with fairly big and established speedrunning communities (e.g. Zelda, Mario, Metroid, DOOM, etc.). In games where speedrunning is more niche, runners tend to be masters of the game's mechanics no matter how glitchy the any% route is.

@AnglosArentHuman That's fair, I can agree with that. It is kind of odd how that works though. One would think that since they spend so much time on a game that they would master all of the mechanics regardless of how popular or niche the game is but it doesn't really work that way I guess.

@@JohnU1515 In more niche speedgames, it is generally the top runners themselves doing all the theory-crafting, glitch-hunting, routing, etc. etc. which generally means they have to be half-decent at the actual game. It's also fairly common for them to have exhausted other forms of replayability (multiple playthroughs, max difficulty, self-imposed restrictions, etc.) before even considering speedrunning the game. With something as big as OoT/MM you can have played the game once as a kid and really loved it, found a speedrun online and immediately began reading/watching speedrunning resources made by prior runners and start churning out attempts without ever re-engaging with any fundamental game mechanics that the speedrun route makes irrelevant.

@AnglosArentHuman That makes a lot of sense as to why the more niche speedrunners need to understand the mechanics more, thank you, it is good to know. I have seen some speedruns on OoT and they seem to have completely broken the game that a person wouldn't even need to know 95% of the games mechanics other than some glitches mostly that admittedly look difficult to me. But like you said, you just need to search online and all of the information for the game is already there to find.

Getting three quarters of the way through a roguelite run and the Grim Bipper shows up out of nowhere was nuts. The next original miniboss was also, uh, something. I'm only halfway through watching this, so no doubt there's going to be something else that blows me away. Fantastic hack, just wish there was a de-Rogue'd version with real checkpoints and multiple opportunities to buy/gain items. The marathon format is quite intimidating. (Also, I appreciate this mod for pretty much fulfilling my theory that Zelda tends to have better combat than most realize.)

I just beat this mod earlier today. Sadly it seems the patch of the mod I used was broken. After hitting the final blow on the final boss instead of playing the ending cutscene and credits it popped up with a wall of code saying "missing floating point" and "unimplemented". Sucks but looking it up that was the end.
