Could you imagine if the dark path was the canon one and Link's guilt for his terrible deeds is what cursed him into the Hero's Shade?
@thegeneraljohn28953 ай бұрын
It IS said that the Hero's Shade's greatest regret is that his deeds as a hero have been forgotten by the world--which somewhat conflicts with everyone and their mother referring to a legendary Hero in Twilight Princess--so having Link venture off to a faraway land and start actin'-a-fool would be an interesting Lore Tie-In.

What I like about indigo that sets itself apart from other romhacks I've played is the dev actually put thought into the puzzles instead of relying on "go here, then here" or using unintended game mechanics like back-flipping onto objects to progress (the redead zombies in Igatha have that issue with that torch on the ground). My only criticism would be to rework the city layout a bit. It's not organic to have entrances facing random directions instead of toward the town square.
@superthing82934 ай бұрын
Since this game is going for a "your actions have consequences" type a deal i REALLY hope squishing the minish was a one time bit and not something i have to keep in mind for an entire segment. @kentonm If stepping on the Minish WERE TO HAVE consequences, potential backlash and bitterness from players could be avoided by having the Minish give dialogue which might prompt the player to remember his existence when leaving town, as not to step on him. Maybe not something as blatant as "Don't step on me on your way out!" but rather something similar that subtley triggers the Zelda puzzle brain. "Even if over the years I've learned a shocking number of people have never played them." Man you have no idea how true this is. I've been writing a fully custom tabletop RPG system and decided "Hey, a playtest using a Zelda setting would be fun, and should get a lot of potential playtesters' attention!" But literally 90% of the people I've approached have been like "Uh, I mean, I know what Zelda is I guess, but I haven't really played it."

The most disarming thing is, in the last 10 years, if someone in their 20's says "Yeah I've played Zelda" they probably mean Breath of the Wild and nothing else, which is to say they probably understand the setting in that context and nothing else.
@monsieurdorgat68644 ай бұрын
I made a DnD module and I just pre-empted it with a one-page sheet that explains the most important details of the setting. You can shorten it a lot by telling folks that it's basically a sword-and-sorcery setting. I also made a shockingly comprehensive monster manual, though I was very intentional about keeping the CR's relatively low since LoZ isn't really a setting for high-level DnD characters, thematically.
@monsieurdorgat68644 ай бұрын
@@lightninstriker10 TBF, I like that setting too. OoT confused me enough as a little kid that it put me off, and I really only enjoyed returning to it as an adult with less stupid in my head. The surreal darkness of OoT and Majora's Mask is pretty cool, but I also genuinely love the fleshed out world with lots of RP and fanfic possibility that BotW and TotK have. The older settings are very inspiring for more linear storytelling, the newer settings are very inspiring in terms of broader world-building. As such, for tabletop games like OP is talking about, I actually prefer the newer settings since they fit the social dynamics and tone of tabletop games.

Honestly, videos like this are exactly my jam. You doing a thing, and cutting in your animation where it would be comically appropriate. That's what initially got me interested in your stuff way back when with the Overwatch Side of Salts. I enjoyed you discussing your PoV on a character in the game (as I was just getting into it, I've long since stopped playing it), and cutting in with funny animations. Your speedrun animations were amazing, such as the Wind Waker / Link's Awakening... all of them really. This kind of content is what I'm hear for. Whether it is positive or negative, I'm just after an *_HONEST_* opinion. *_THAT_* is what matters to me, Scott. Well, that and seeing someone explore games I might not know about, or have the money or initial interest in to see it in action. Helps change minds about exploring something.
@dragonlink20324 ай бұрын
A bit of criticism since you requested it: I really enjoyed this style of video! It's nice to see something more positive and funny and I think it would be good for you to make more videos centered around games and things that you actively enjoy or are passionate about rather than just whatever happens to be popular. I think a good KZbinr to take inspiration from in this regard would be Pastra. They're very horror oriented but almost everything they make a video on is something that they love or even claim to be their favorite thing ever. I think doing more positive retrospectives would be a good thing for you to do! My favorite bits of your videos are always the humor and especially the animation. I'm not saying overload your videos with animations but sprinkling a few more in would be nice. Like for this video specifically an animation of Link getting kicked off a ledge followed by the mario maker laugh track or an animation of Link being upset that there was a missing boss fight would have been nice to see. Of course don't overwhelm yourself, just make sure that you are enjoying what you are making and try experimenting every now and then until you get into a groove that you are satisfied with.

Y'all greatly exaggerate how intrusive Navi is. 95% of the time you can just ignore her. Meanwhile Fi is SO much worse, she forces you to stop so often just to tell you there's a certain percent chance your objective is ahead, or that your wiimote batteries are running low. Not mean but firm and forward, which sort of primes people for negativity. The nice slower talking sections really do emphasize that you're not mad or annoyed, just passionate and direct. I don't play romhacks often, but I might have to check this one out when it's finished! Thanks for the recommendation!

Honestly, I love this kind of content! - You've used your influence to showcase a really cool project - You still keep the kind of humor I love to see - Pacing is spot on - You kept some content out for the sake of the viewers experience with the game - The small animation moments were a great touch Overall I like the direction you're heading and hope to enjoy more content like this!

Love the animated bits mixed in with the humor, also loved the way it wasn't a walk-through but more of a generalized overview of the game with your brand of humor. Keep up the good work and glad to see you back in the swing of things!

I really enjoyed this format! It's nice to see you cover stuff you enjoy. I think the balance of covering the actual content of the game versus making jokes etc is really good, which people tend to underestimate the importance of. It would be nice to see more of your animation, since they're always top tier! I don't really have any points of critique personally, it's just an enjoyable vid!

"i like a darker Zelda game without it going too far over the edge" *meanwhile, well past the edge by this point for what feels like a creepypasta moment*
@RelativelyBest3 ай бұрын
There's having a dark tone, and then there's being cynical and mean-spirited. I think a Zelda game can somewhat get away with the former but definitely not the latter - that's antithetical to what the series is about. The horror elements are fine, but I think having Link accidentally stepping on minishes or ruining the lives of NPCs because he did the quests wrong makes it feel like an overly edgy parody. I do like the idea of an older and somewhat bitter Link living alone as a hermit until he has to get back in the saddle, and the game starts out cold and kinda depressing as he has to relearn how to be a hero. That's a fantastic setup for some great character development. (Though, you can not convince me that a Link who is a veteran of two games would not have a sword stashed away in his cabin just in case.)

New Scott Falco video! I’m honestly surprised this was the topic. But it makes sense that’s it’s so long when it’s also a bit of a walkthrough. This feels a bit like the first videos of your’s that I saw which were the animated speed-runs. I hope you are being to feel better after all you went through this year!

Really enjoyed this one. Super interested in checking out this mod now and you highlighted it in a way thats incredibly exciting! My one complaint is that I feel that you go into too much detail when covering some of these dungeons. Zelda games are at their best when the player can solve the puzzles for for themselves, so rather than walk the viewer through each puzzle, only showcase one or two that grab your interest and leave the details for the viewer to experience. Hope this makes sense. Wishing you the best in your push toward a more positive outlook on content! Cheers!

seconded! it seemed like for this kind of video, where its a more condensed summary and overview of the mod, the dungeon portions seemed morr like walkthroughs then the rest. i adore watching playthroughs though, but comparatively it seemed like dungeons were much more longwinded then overworld. was still a fun watch though and im glad to see you do a video on something you enjoy- something i very much enjoy seeing myself

Okay, to Arin's defense, the design of this game's dungeon traps are exactly what the Zelda Sequelitis complained about, except the traps are entirely hidden from view, inside of the corner of walls, programmed to punish you for taking the rewards you find, instead of easily telegraphed spike pucks that control the main floor of the room. To credit Arin's point, this game's design for traps has a case of rudely intentional , "extreme difficulty fangame design" made to inconvenience you than control space and challenge the traversal of rooms. I hope the dev could revise the "GOTCHA!!" hostility of the traps and make them more telegraphed, like, just make the pendulum traps just traditional, slow swinging damage traps that control the pace of progressing hallways, or instead of arrow traps that spike the approach of rewards, the deathpucks or surprise enemy encounters for treasure chest rooms. The fact that the current build punishes you by shooting with arrows just for stepping up to an item chest, makes the game look as annoying to play as it would feel.
@LuigiXHero4 ай бұрын
He overplayed the traps in the ship. The arrows do quarter hearts and you can see the holes they come out of (plus the first set is telegraphed so you know to look for them. The guillotine is a gotcha moment but it's near the end of the dungeon where it's been feeding you that it's a trap heavy place and you should be more careful, if you do get hit by it you lose at most 1 second of time. The dungeon was more than fair playing it.

Really enjoyed this video! Learning about random rom hacks in this manner is really fun because I’m not in that community directly so I only hear about them when someone likes one enough to take time to tell people about them. I agree with a lot of the other comments and yourself, the animated bits sprinkled around add just the right thing to this type of video.

Love this type of video, please continue doing cool fun topics. I like hearing about things you enjoy and sort of sped up playthroughs of incomplete games are cool, but would like normal speed playthroughs if you end up making a video of that. Have you ever considered some let play series or a VOD channel for your streams? I've always enjoyed how to do your speed run animation videos were you explain what you are doing while showing the sped up playthrough, so that would be interesting for non-speed runs of games too.

I usually stay away from romhacks mostly because, at best, they're usually stupidly difficult for the sake of being difficult with maybe a poorly written story slapped together and the ones with any promise are abandonware(can you tell ive been burned before). But this actually looks pretty cool. Im definitely going to have to check it out.

This is a really cool mod, and I'm intrigued to see what it holds in the future. I've always enjoyed these videos where you go into a bit of a skimming through the game with the sprinkled in animations to give it more character. I understand wanting to step away from the side of salts. People change and they don't always want to stick to a negative mindset for the sake of retention. Do what makes you happy Scott.
