I saw a report online about how oarfish were caught and sighted in the waters off the coast of California. Oarfish in Japanese lore predicts an earthquake. I lived in Puerto Rico - Caribbean island - when we were affected by a 6.4 earthquake. Before the earthquake, oarfish washed up on shore.

They are probably disturbed by activity in the area underwater and come up due to that. Possibly they are harmed by gasses released during earth movements? They sure would be harmed by coming up from their normal depths.

My wife and I grew up in Portland. We watched Mt. St Helen’s blow from our deck. I remember hearing the day before it blew, that a geologist from France had declared it would not have violent explosive eruption. He was supposedly a “ very respected expert”! I'm a high school teacher. I grew up in the SF Bay Area.... lived through the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, though I was injured twice by it, but I am now teaching in Klamath Falls now. Funny day today.... everyone's phone here where I live was screaming "duck and cover" but we have a no cell phone policy, so my classroom, having an algebra test, got zero notifications, so the intercom notice to "you don't need to duck and cover" was based on the alert we got. I was alarmed..... but later felt okay about it.

FYI I live in area off of Santa Rosa, CA. Our phones went off and small things like chandeliers shaking! Then tsunamis warning on phone . Sadly schools have alerts and 4 year olds scared and told to hide under desks . Then many more like 60 more small ones. Yet live on a fault expected

Hi once again, Silki. I suspect it may be either an intraplate quake (the Juan de Fuca plate) or one on the San Andreas where it turns west and goes out to sea. From the map shown on the TV broadcast, it looks like it's the latter or a very nearby area. Glad there was no tsunami--a quake like this is scary enough (I survived a 6.9 quake back in 1989--not fun). Great report as always--not sure where the video of the apartment was shot, but from the view through the window, it looks like maybe San Francisco--if so, it looks like SF was rocking and rolling a bit, too. ❤ to you and Apollo--I hope everything will be OK for you two. I'll keep Apollo and you as well as the Cape Mendocino area in my prayers.

It was on the Mendocino fracture zone, which is a strike slip like the San Andreas but an adjacent albeit, still connected fault.

A tsunami may not necessarily look like one large wave. More often, there is a fast moving "normal" looking wave (resembling "the 7th wave at the beach), incoming, then further waves BUILD UP on top of that first wave and suddenly you are looking at 10 plus feet of water, and more water overlapping even that. You can have sea water over your head and swept into obstacles in mere seconds. Unless the beach you are at is very level for a fair distance, then drops off deeply, or the ocean goes a fair way out on normal tides, you will not see a singular big wave (usually). People should not be sanguine about tsunami warnings. Basically, the ocean will come in and keep coming in and each succeeding wave will build up on the previous by many feet.

The cascadia is more dangerous than the San Andreas. Yes more people live in so cal, but cascadia goes all the way up to British Columbia. There’s a lot of big cities on the coast, on top of the fact it’s a subduction fault which moves a lot more ground than San Andreas’ parallel running plates.

This earthquake was ‘the big one’. It was 7 magnitude. Just it didn’t happen in a heavily populated area nor on the San Andreas nor on the Cascadia subduction zone. The epicentre was offshore, undersea, a strikeslip movement on the transverse fault between the southern part of the Juan de Fuca and Pacific plates. See USGS. They were right to call a tsunami alert but in the event it was minor, the alert is now removed. You are well prepared in California for earthquakes, alert systems, building regulations etc. If it had been going to cause a major disaster this would already have happened.

It can help with a Tumor and what I understood there is a pretty good chance that it will help Apollo. There are also cases were it doesn’t help. It depends on the kind of Tumor and how much it progressed.
