[Filmed 2:07pm July 6, 2021] (EDIT This was fixed)
Just want to say first thing that this was reported right away by the train crew to the dispatcher and UP signal department after the train passed through they toned up the dispatcher. UPRR signal department came out and was out the rest of the day guiding trains through the crossing and fixing it. Also was told that this is not a malfunction but a sensor fail but still labling it a malfunction since the crossing did something its definitely not supposed to do.
While finishing up the day railfanning down the Fresno Sub having this be my last catch it got pretty dangerous. I noticed this crossing acting unusual like it never has before. The previous train I caught at Fruitridge Rd, I was looking down the tracks from there and noticed Power Inn Rd activated super earlier than usual activating before the train even got to 14th Ave which is north of here as usually you can see the southbound trains headlights before Power Inn Rd activates same with Fruitridge Rd due to how far they are from the curve at Brighton to here at Polk on Power Inn Rd. I thought it was the crossing having a one time early activation malfunction that crossings have sometimes when the train is detected wrong.
After Fruitridge, I moved here and was prepared for the early activation for just in case reasons so I could still get the full activation and deactivation but the situation got worse as this time while I was at the crossing the early activation malfunction happened again but this time the unexpected happened. The crossing gates rose all the way up in a detection sensor malfunction right when the train was basically at the crossing and traffic started to flow again almost causing a major accident with a high speed freight train with four vehicles especially that pickup truck across the way so the crew blew the horn nonstop as it was the only working warning left besides the malfunctioning flashing lights and gates. It amazes me though that even though people hear the horn and from my side could see the train approaching fast and still thing the gates rising means go across.
After railfanning and seeing these crossings for years I have never seen this malfunction here before this is the first time. If it's sensor damage I believe someone messed with the tracks possibly homeless in the area and if not that it's possible the switch at Polk up ahead my be shortening out and causing Power Inn Rd to have a bad detection for southbound trains coming from the north. Also it has to have something to do with the track sensoring trains as at the same time 14th Ave been having tail activation malfunctions for southbound trains also so somethings going on between 14th Ave and Power Inn Rd.
