Guapo, our beloved Cuban rock iguana, is back from the veterinarian and looking great. He's eating and strolling around the aquascape pond for sips of water! Plus, he has a totally new indoor setup and enclosure thanks to custom cages!

Guapo wants a water fountain in his enclosure, 3 cheers for fresh running water! Animals love it! Maybe just a small water feature like in the enclosure at Iguana Land. ❤❤❤❤😊. I think he is ready to be outside a little more. He needs fresh air and sun on his wounds.

They might not have included one atm because of his wounds and stitches. I know whenever I had stitches my doctors always had me do stuff to prevent the water from coming in contact with it in the shower, so maybe it’s not good?

Tbh out of all the youtube people kenan takes care of all his animals the best vet care from thebiggest to the smallest of animals and the best life and enclosures iv seen plus compared to some he dosent keep too many hes not a horder cares for what he can manage

You really need to get him on pain medication if pain if the reason he can’t open his mouth to eat. If the stitches are limiting his movement you may have to remove some of them. He needs to be using that jaw or the scar tissue build up and permanently lock that it unless you take him in for another surgery to get the scar tissue removed. This is why we have to do physical therapy after certain injuries and surgeries, our bodies like to overheal things and can work against us.

How awesome. I was super upset when you first found him!!!! It’s bc of him and petro that I want either a rhino or Cuban rock iguana!!! Just don’t know enough on their care yet to get a pair. And have to get an enclosure outside built and one for inside during Savannahs mild winters. So glad!!!!!!

7:12 when Guapo realized he was home *he admittedly wanted to sunbath* 🫢 that gave me so much hope 😢. Regardless of his traumatic experience and pain hes in,he wanted nothing but to relax and just Spread out 😂 like a retired veteran with a cigarette 🚬 on his mouth 🇱🇷

Make a bowl of liquid blended food. Add the weeds, leaves, and flowers he loves also in it. That may help a bit. Still do the mashed tiny meatball technique vet mentioned as well. Bowl of water as well. Seems like that may be a good start. Easier on his jaw and he gets food in him as he can lick it up.

That's the only way it should be! If you take on a pet, you are taking on a living, feeling being that is dependent on you. If you don't love and care for them like family, you shouldn't have them!

It's been an age, but I had a gnarly cut on my finger once. Even once it was properly healed it felt weird for a *while.* Not painful, just... like the skin was too tight. Weird. After awhile that went away and sometimes I forget it ever happened. Given the much larger extent of Guapo's physical trauma, it makes sense to me that he'd have trouble opening his mouth just because everything's stiff, all the scar tissue, his muscles are sore, there's still infection.... Patience, I suspect, will be key here. He may *eventually* need training to help stretch his mouth open so he can do his whole iguana thang, but I'd chat with the vet about when to even start that. He probably still has healing to do before that's even worth worrying about. But he seems like he really badly wants to get back to being an iguana, which is such a good and hopeful thing to see. You're doing great work with him.

Guapo is home where he belongs just look at the way he is sunbathing and walking around and drinking from the pond and trying to eat , he is going to recover quickly because he is home where they love him and take good care of him . Kenan you will have to mashed his food so it could be more easily to eat for him. Love seeing Guapo❤❤❤

Kenan, anyone who has had an animal that was sick gets ecstatic when they drink because that is HUGE!! I got excited too when I saw Guapo drinking...you are not crazy!!! He is looking better but it looks like the left side of his face is still very swollen, which would explain why it's sore to open his mouth but he's trying!! Now Guapo needs a new cage build, not because of Lola but because he survived this traumatic event, Slinky got his now Guapo needs one with a new girlfriend 🤣😂 I'm so happy he's ok...it's just gonna take some time to heal!! Hi Kenan. Watching guano reminded me of when I had a broken jaw and facial bones from a car accident. Those deep muscle tears guano received and to see him eat and then wash his salad down with a drink was so cool !!!! Good luck and God bless 👍🙏🏻❣️

I bet there will be days that his jaw hurts more than others, just like when humans are healing and sometimes overdo it. Maybe on those days he could eat something completely pureed into the consistency of a crested gecko diet. He seems to use his tongue really well and obviously doesn't have trouble swallowing down water, so it would basically be like someone with oral surgery having to eat soup and ice cream while healing.

I’m so happy Guaopo is doing so well! He definitely wants to eat, his jaw doesn’t seem to open as well or maybe does hurt. But I wonder if it’s tight now that he’s had no jaw exercise for a while after the muscle trauma there. He’s a wonderful animal, I’m so glad he’s trying to eat, that’s such a great sign.

Great to see Guapo is healing nicely. Getting injured sucks because you end up so focused on what you can do previously instead of what you can do right now. It is definitely a lesson in patience for the person healing and the people helping the injured. But by the time you know it, you will end up doing the things you will end up doing the things without thinking or flinching.
