I love how Hochstetter is saying "What is this man doing here" despite this being one of the few times Hogan has a completely good reason to be present.

Hogan is a prisoner of war a VERY far way away from his prisoner of war camp, which he is not supposed to leave. In fact, whenever Hochstetter sees Hogan, he's typically inserting himself into places or conversations suspiciously, at best. The question is ALWAYS justified.

On the contrary, you'd be surprised how many SS Nazis managed to become American Citizens. It's always likely that he managed to do this himself, if not escape to the Argentine. Then again, considering how he's always in Germany and not out abroad, it seems likely he died in combat...or yeah, probably tried for war crimes. I easily see him surrendering once surrounded.

Wolfgang Hochstetter escaped to Bariloche, Argentina, worked as an innkeeper and actuary and lived out his life in quiet obscurity under an assumed name. He died in 1981. John Cleese stayed at his hotel, where he became the inspiration for Cleese's Basil Fawlty character.

Hogan's Hero's was the Johnny Quest of prime time sitcoms. Stupid premise, horrible scripts, worn out stereotypes and all in all a show that was and remains epic bad taste. Bury every reel of film. Not funny then and less funny now. Not everything churned out in the 60's was "golden".

But think about this. Colonel Klink and Sgt Shultz were played by German jews, General Burkalter by an Austrian Jew who was a US Army Sgt in the war and LeBeau by a French Jew who survived 2 concentration camps. His family did not survive.
