Building houses on flood plains is not a good idea. The clue is in the name, FLOOD plain!

@johnhume4346 but before Manchester existed there would have been areas that flooded occasionally
@johnhume43463 күн бұрын
@plentyofnothing 3 inches of rain fell in 12 hours. There's a small river near me thats maybe a foot deep, top of the bank is 12 - 15 ft above it. That river burst it's banks. The rivers are fed from the pennines.

Im sure the shareholders at the sewage companies will fix this, by raising water rates and giving themselves a bonus 👍🏻

rivers are the responsibilty of the environment agency not the water companies

Another comment posted to derail the easily fooled amongst us away from the root cause of these disasters - the climate crisis. Obviously these homes weren't built on flood plains. 3 inches of rain is a hell of a lot given the time period.

Solution a ten year old could tell you and even experienced council staff when they learned that cost cutting was going to take place which included the regularity of clearing out the drains. Clean out the drains more regularly! I don't watch the news, have they mentioned global warming yet for drians not being kept clear and flood plains disappearing?
@smithy32693 күн бұрын
And yet the water services just get away with it while dishing out huge bonuses and upping bills. Guess we are a bunch of saps
@jonemerton15553 күн бұрын
Solution - clean out all the drains and gullies every few months. Dredge the canals and water ways and dig them deeper twice a year. Stop building houses on flood plains. Hoover up all the leaves as autumn approaches - they block the gulies and drains. Stop blaming climate change!!!! Please - just a thought ...............

@uk-martin49053 күн бұрын
Quite right....climate change is a scam and is part of a plan devised years ago to control people and restrict their movements. There is proof of this. Mcr City Council rarely cleans out drains (we pay them to do this of course) and the flooding of my lane in M18 is a constant fear. The city council treats residents with contempt.

Again flooded roads because the water companies refuse to do regular maintenance and cleaning including pipe work cleaning, technology has moved on and is entirely possible to use industrial cleaning automated methods , they are the first to complain about fat burgs so they should be forced to do rolling maintenance. It would help also identify and repair leaking pike works that still need fixing months even years after complaints
@jimbothebull35633 күн бұрын
Its the fact they havent urgently dammed up the end of the canal before the breach.Looking like an absoulute shambles by the waterways ,councils and government .One end blocked up stops canal water getting lower so boats that are stranded can go back the other way. If it was going near an MPs house things would happen.I bet in times before modern technology it would be sorted by now.
