Never follow or give time to people who are offering free drinks or entertainment in shinjuku. They are everywhere and seek out English speakers by trying to act friendly.

They're remarkably, irritatingly persistent too. I don't enjoy having to finally be blunt and rude in order to shake off a street hawker-hustler. I like to smile and be friendly to everybody but Kabukicho at night-- pfft, I stride around with an expression like thunder nowadays. It's not my natural mode but that's city life in 2024 hey? What a grand shame.

I'm going sometime this year, I'm just going to stay at a capsule hotel, eat breakfast and midnight snack at 7-Eleven, Lunch at a Katsu Chicken or Sushi place and Dinner at Ichiran Ramen, walk around and sight see a different district per day, and not stay out as much. Even then, I'll be just fine, won't let fear like that run my life.

@@nobodynothing00000 Yes! Oh, the jet lag that lasts from Tokyo to London is awful. Same with anywhere in The States to London. It's not just the flight's impact, it's the readjusting to jumbled new circadian rhythm and topsy turvy new routine. I also find that whilst ON the actual holiday my lower legs and ankles are agony when I'm trying to sleep. No massage, no cooling strips...nothing helps. Nobody on YT talks about this so I think that it's just me who struggles with the extraordinary amount of urban perambulation and its effect on the joints and muscles...yikes!

So many great topics Alex , the heat yes! I returned from Japan on Wed night , it was 24° and humid that day , Azabudai Hills was amazing, I loved it so much, there were cherry blossoms out the front too !🌸 I never really thought I'd see them in Feb 😅 I know most people want to climb Mount Fuji I'd like to try the alternative trails you show instead, but I've always favoured seeing Fuji from a distance on a clear day and getting pics 🗻 On my trip I also got another favourite go toand it Mt Takao

On one of my first trips to Tokyo I booked my hotel in Kabukicho before learning about the area's notoriety. I was approached several times by buskers trying to lure me into bars/clubs but because of my research online I knew these were traps and avoided them. Those things aside, Kabukicho was a very vibrant and entertaining place to stay. TLDR: Keep you nose clean and got to bars in other districts.

I was drugged and robbed whilst on a bar crawl in Osaka in 2017. Woke up in the gutter with an empty wallet. I'm not exactly sure how it happened but i can only suggest not accepting drinks from people you don't know and never leave your drink unattended. This also happened to my friend in Roppongi. I think it's more common than people think.

@@brvhtxxbxk Thanks for sharing your experience and reassuring me of my planned time frame for my trip this year. My husband would screenshot the daily weather details on his phone as it would say 'Shibuya 33 degrees but 'FEELS LIKE' 39'-- this will have 10:37am above!!!! Relentless. I love dressing up for Japan but honestly, I just won't bother next time around. As I mentioned in an earlier comment, the bonus is that I'll have loads more valuable space in my luggage for indulgent shopping, y'know, if I decline to be a Street Style Superstar 5000 and roam about as an uninspired Beige Watercolour Wonder . PS= October is a good idea if you're heading to the Okinawan islands during your trip as jellyfish season starts winding down. Silver linings...

Oh, TeamLabs... *facepalm* The nail in the coffin for me is that it takes too long to see everything properly. That's half a day in an expensive part of Tokyo I would never consider going to. I guess it's good for people who have lots of time in Tokyo and know their way around the Metro. I have neither. TeamLab Planets? It's a foot bath and I've heard it smells of chlorine.
