I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends. The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or whenever you can afford to. This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market just like regular stock. That’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

The best thing and the simplest thing you could do is make sure you're investing at least $1000 into your brokerage or retirement account Quarterly. If you aren't able to, figure out how to come up with some extra cash. Your future self needs it.

Low six-figure income, no debt, nearing mortgage payoff ($400k property), age 43. Invested over 15x annual salary, amazed by focus on scraping by in retirement. Aim for surplus. My goal: retire at 55 with $5M. Unless the markets crash, these two points should align. I'm quite lucky to have started working with a financial advisor early.

Social media will make you feel that. Try to cut short form content, write down what you’ve achieved in terms of singular achievements as well as healthy behaviors/habits you’ve built. This will bring your perception out of your head and onto paper where you can see tangibly, the results of your work. Start making checklists so when you feel Inadequate you can look back and visibly see what you’ve completed, the discipline and accomplishments will feel more real and valuable. Good luck!

I spent my 20s making every mistake in the book lol...drugs, partying annd in the end i got kicked out from college without any kind of qualifications so i created my own cleaning company back in 2016. The first 2 years i had no real income - i reinvested all the money that the company has made into educations for my team, equipment and cars. The pandemic was literally the breakthrough for our company and just within a couple of months our turnover has tripled but then the worst that could happen happened... Breach of contract and licenses that have been withdrawn and all that just happened because of two teammates that havent done their job right. I had to close the company last year, sold everything to pay off my debts that came by the mistakes we have made and i still got around 15k left in debts... Im about to turn 28 and tbh i dont know how to continue. Im living in germany and thank god education is free here but going back to school at 28 ? Wont be easy... Sorry for my english but its super frustrating and dont know how i can bring myself back on track

Bro, I'm also 28 trying to figure out the best way to approach this. Funnily enough I do most of what Humphrey says already besides having a Roth IRA open (which I am googling now). Bro, if you know school is a healthy option and you know you want it? (and it's free lol). I would definitely do that. School is not hard AT ALL, trust me. from the sound of it, you've done way more work trying to get your company running than to merely study a few hours a day for an inevitable success story XD
@Crossfirev
@Crossfirev Жыл бұрын
Financially, school is about return on investment, not passion. If you cannot find a degree that has a good return on investment, that you are passionate about, you shouldnt be going to school. This includes 'free' schooling as well, opportunity costs are a thing as well. (Not to mention taxes that pay for that lmao, but I digress) OP, it sounds like you are capable in running a business. Mistakes are always made, it's what you do after that counts. Learn from the mistakes you make and improve because of them, don't wallow in the shadow of them. You got this. You've got more experience in this world than I do. I for one believe you can do it. Realign your life to what you want to do, establish what will get you there, even if what is going to happen right now isn't the most pleasant. ❤

When it comes to community college transfers to a 4-year institution, I would note that some institutions would not accept certain credits/courses from those community colleges, so people may run the risk of re-taking some of the classes in the new institution that they have already taken in the community college. I recommend diversifying your investments by considering stocks alongside real estate. During a recession, there are potential buying opportunities in the stock market if approached cautiously. Additionally, market volatility can offer short-term buying and selling opportunities. However, please note that this is not financial advice. It's important to be proactive in investing as cash may not be the most advantageous option during these times.

I’m a 28 year old Journeyman Electrician, my household income with my wife and I is around $8500 net. We utilize only 0% credit cards and pay them off long before the promotion period is up. We have big car payments, that add up to about 1700 a month. Our mortgage is 2700, and after all bills are paid and fridge is full, we are budgeted to save around $1500-2000 a month. We are completely content with this. We enjoy spending money, but also think it’s important to save for a rainy day. We also put 5-10% of our income into our 401k. Skilled trades have taken care of us.

These videos are great, but I feel the numbers you use are slightly unrealistic unless you're living in a big city or somewhere with an extremely high cost of livinig that demands a higher minimum wage to match. I live out in the wood and our minimum wage here is around 7$/hr, I'm blessed to be making 15$ at 24, but many people in my family who are in their 30's-50's aren't making much more than 30-50k a year. 6:40 Saving even 500$ a month might not be "hard" in your late 20s once you're more established, but to be doing that straight out of the gate at 20 means you must not be doing any college or have much debt to pay off, and that you found a decent job ASAP from highschool. I like the scenarios, but how about starting someone around 22 with the average college debt, or just having finished paying off said debt and getting established at a decent job around 25. 9:57 Using the 5k a month figure is nice and all for comparison, but that's 70k a year after taxes, insurance, etc?? That's entirely unrealistic for like 80-90% of the people around me.

I’m 22 years old, my wife is 24, and we live in Iowa-on the bottom half of median salary. I live in a town of about 6,000 people. We are in the process of buying a house. We put $40,000 (15%) and still have an emergency fund of $25,000 (we would like to renovate some of the house with about $5-10k and I was able to get PMI to only $16 a month else we would’ve put 20% down). My wife got a 2 year degree and doesn’t have any college debt. I just graduated with a 4 year degree and have $32,000 in debt (our finances are combined, just giving a picture of our debt). Neither of our parents helped with college. We have no other debt. We don’t drive anything amazing. Both of our cars probably combine to a total of $12,000 which is fine cuz my commute is a mile and my wife works from home. Our household income will be about $90,000. We live below our means and save about $1,500 a month (not including the $600 we put into our company’s 401k every month). To get to this point, we both worked in high school and saved most of what we earned. I worked two jobs while in college and my wife was working full time. I don’t say any of this to brag. My point is, what he is saying is possible even in small towns where income might be lower. It might take hard work, but it’s possible. If you don’t make much, pursue a degree or credentials to increase your income or get multiple jobs. It’s all possible. Good luck!

My credit is 720 and I recently spoke with a mortgage lender only to find out I only qualify for 215k of a mortgage despite my good credit and money saved. I am also debt free. I guess I just need to wait another year or two for interest rates to go down and my income to increase my credit to reach 750+ and my savings to double. But recently I decided to officially make it a priority. Me and my wife went over our finances and figured out some rough numbers as to where we stand. I made a HYSA and currently have $500, and opened a Roth IRA to start contributing to, and told my parents that any gift they give me I want it to be money put towards that fund. I have about 350$ worth of credit card debt that I’m zeroing out within the next month. Credit score of about 791 which I’m proud of. It’s taken me too long to figure all of this out saving/investing wise, but I’m glad I’ve made a change and started. Videos like this really opened my eyes. If only I could’ve started years ago… but it’s never too late!

Student debt has different conditions in different countries. There could be added benefits like it being forgiven if you become unable to work, for example. So the decision of investing vs. paying it off is not as simple as interest vs. returns. Also, building a credit score is not a thing you need to do in all countries.

These are very valuable rules for anybody who wants to get rich. Unfortunately, most people who will watch this video will not really be able to apply the principles. We may not want to admit, but as Warren Buffett once said, investing is like any other profession-- it requires a certain level of expertise. No surprise that some people are losing a lot of money in the bear market, while others are making hundreds of thousands in profit. I just don't know how they do it. I have about $89k now to put in the market.

Home prices will come down eventually, but for now; its best to offset some of your real estate investments and get into the financial markets or gold. The new mortgage rates are crazy, add to that the recession and the fact that mortgage guidelines are getting more difficult. Home prices will need to fall by a minimum of 40% (more like 50%) before the market normalizes. If you are in cross roads or need sincere advise on the best moves to take now its best you seek an independent advisor who knows about the financial markets.

I disagree with paying off student loans faster than necessary instead of investing. Sure, you can’t guarantee a better return, but this video is about people in their 20s. The amount of compounded gains by the time they retire is HUGE. As the student loans gradually decrease, and the amount of interest that accrues each month decreases, the gains on those early investments will be growing faster and faster. The caveats are: just use index funds, and preferably in tax-advantaged retirement accounts (Roth especially) so the the benefits are even greater, tipping the scales even further in favor of investment. If you’re deciding between paying off student loans and buying Tesla stock, definitely pay off the loan

I’m 33, no student debt, 10k in stocks, just bought a condo to live with my family, will pay off car, have a great credit score. What else should I do now? Because of mortgage and HOA I have very little cash left a month :(

Just turned 24 today. Feel like I’m going the a quarter life crisis. My advice is too start to make extra hobbies you like doing on the side that makes you money and you can create a skill out of. Then just stay consistent with that building up until it either surpasses your job or replaces it.. other than that you’re in a great place my friend.

I am twenty-four and looking to increase my financial literacy. I am an RN with no student debt. I also recently opened a high-yield savings account. What are the benefit to index funds?
