Remember that Xehanort could project himself across time and space as long as he had a host body waiting for him. IMO, Sora is doing the same thing here, using his connection to Kairi's heart to link their hearts and temporarily possess Kairi to ward of Xehanort. It's worth noting that Xehanort specifically states that the fact that Sora's voice can't reach them is proof of where he is, and immediately following the boss fight tells Kairi everything she needs to know to trace Sora. I'm fairly certain this memory of Xehanort attacks Kairi specifically to bring out Sora and confirm where he is before telling Kairi what she needs to know, even a memory of Xehanort is a crafty bastard.

Sora does something similar in Re mind, possessing the past versions of Keyblade wielders his heart was connected to. However, in "unreality" the heart connection is weakened because it is "Final Fantasy" verse, and you have to past through "death" to get there.

I came here as fast as I got the notification. If its a world of fiction wouldn’t it be...a world of Fantasy? The series first had Final Fantasy characters until KH3. And every one thinks the director is going to bring his old Versus storyline into KH. Omg I need to replay everything again...thank you for sharing this!! I just purchased a new game and cannot afford a new one. Lol. The background music towards the end with Yen Sid sounds a lot like the music from the mobile game with the masters. Chili! Im totally going down the rabbit hole gain with all the theories in my head now, lol!
