As stated by another commentor P1-P8 are the Dynamic Brakes on that locomotive. Also time for a history lesson: Prior to the invention of cab radios and modern signals, collisions between trains in foggy or otherwise poor visibility were far to common. In order to solve the problem the "Torpedo" was invented. Torpedoes in the railroading world are small explosive charges that can be strapped to the rail and detonated by another train crushing them. Up untill the invention of the modern comfort cab the explosions alerted crews by both the sound they made and the vibrations they produced in the train. Standard deployment is "Three detonators ten meters apart 400 meters either side of the train; obstruction requires protection supplemented by two detonators ten meters apart 800 meters either side of the train, obstruction or point requiring protection" , thereby aiding the crew of an approaching train to either stop or slow down enough to mitigate the damage of a collision....

That map says there's a service track right off to the north of the turntable, you don't need to travel all the way to the edge of the station.

rail torpedos are small devices that attach to the rail and explode when a train passes over. old school danger warning. doesn't damage the train, is just very loud.

Mucking about with all those switches in the cab has now spoiled it for when you have an hours drive freight mission to an American back water town where playing banjo is a mandatory exercise. You'll have to take a sudoku instead

Hey Col I have seen a few of your vids. You are hilarious! My thing is planes,trains and automobiles. I know just enough to get me in trouble LOL! I am a retired truck driver of 30 years when I need my fix it's ATS. I also love trains, that AC 4400 CW you drove the one with the door in the nose has 4400 hp. B-1 is dynamic brakes if your are going downhill apply dynamic brakes 1 through 8 to slow the consist down it saves wear and tear on the brake shoes Just a heads up and you need to apply the brakes a lot sooner than you have that why you keep overshooting checkpoints. Keep it up! you will get the hang of all of it!

I know nothing about modern trains, other than that they are awesome. However, i think your engine issues on the 2nd train may relate to the independent break. Remember on the first train you were clearing the brake lines of pressure before you left go of the independent handle? Well looking bottom right of the HUD there is a BP with a white and red line on it. The red line was still up about 1/3 of the way when you were having to thrash the engine to barely drag forward.
@bjarnenilsson805 жыл бұрын
No it makes perfectbsence the power handke ia a combined trotle and dynamic break, so it is conistsnt with how the other breaks work, the farther forward the more break. Do the cobtrolls are consistant for this locomotive, in relation to others, not so much. Or is my logic just wrong
@keijonorden7 жыл бұрын
Hey Colonel, at your duty. First if you put the throttle lever forward you will use the dynamic break. (P1) KEEP IT GOING

@@colonelfailure Ha ha Funny! This is what Dynamic braking is. Dynamic braking is the use of the electric traction motors of a vehicle as generators when slowing. It is termed rheostatic if the generated electrical power is dissipated as heat in brake grid resistors, and regenerative if the power is returned to the supply line. Dynamic braking lowers the wear of friction-based braking components, and additionally regeneration reduces energy consumption.

@colonelfailure7 жыл бұрын
I'm going to take this as a "In what way is this fun?" kind of comment, as it could be interpreted in several ways. The key word in the title of this piece of software is "simulator" as that's what it is. It's be wrong to call it a game, it's not trying to compete with you, it's offering authenticity and accuracy (as much as a simulator can) for those who love the idea of driving a train as a job, or maybe do already (or previously), or simply love real world trains. That's where the fun is derived, from the sense of being there. From my perspective I've "played" Train Simulator on occasion for the last decade or so, because I like trains - but not to the level where a simulator is what I want. Every time I give it a spin, I'll sink an hour in and move onto something else, returning maybe 6 months later. I'd love to be able to drive a train, with this level of accuracy within Transport Fever but even then I'd only do each line once - and that's the critical part. It's not about doing it once. Fans of simulators will want to drive the same line numerous times until they feel like they've nailed it. Then they'll drive it some more. Personally, I've never been an avid Train Sim fan, it's just not my thing as it's too limiting for me, but I'm actually enjoying it much more when commenting at the same time. Odd, but true, I may be screwing it up but it's putting a big smile on my face in the process.
@ymer2347 жыл бұрын
When you (anyone) play a game, you can do it in different ways. Take minecraft with mods. Direwolf20 tries to do the job as complicated as possible, where I try to make it as efficient as possible. When I watch you play games or simulators, do you try to do your best, or is the plan to play as bad as possible. You may play as you wish, but sometimes - like this time, there is a short way to the objective marker, and there is the one where you shunt back to the train's end and then back up again (I persume, I didnt bare to watch that long). Do you always try to make the most of it, i.e. go as far away as possible?

Trying to play badly is not something I do - and as you point out, your definition of bad seems to differ to mine. From my perspective, you're only playing wrongly if you're not having fun. Winning/losing doesn't matter in the slightest, high score boards have are completely uninteresting to me. This is why I like open world games, because it doesn't try to tell me I'm doing it wrong.
